Going through a month would be an exercise in frustration, seeing as every other second the game comes to a halt. The game is impractical to play with performance so bad.

That tells me what I need to know then - it's not the game, it's something peculiar to your machine, as I don't get any such issue in my iMac. Quite what, I can't imagine. I'll try to remember to test your game in my Windows laptop, when I get back to it tomorrow.
Given that I play a lot of other really processor and graphic intensive games and have no issue with any of them, that it suddenly happened in-game one day and does the same every time I load my current save but not in any other save, suggests to me that something happened in-game to bring performance down to a crawl, not something in my system. As my tests show, while processor load did increase, at maximum it didn't go to even half capacity, while gpu load was light but still the game shuddered to a crawl, bringing it down to 1fps at times... it has to be the game.

Just loaded your save up... Unplayable. It is as if the game were pausing, waiting as second... and unpausing ad-infinitum. Both my cpu and gpu are ice cold as well.
Interesting is that my other saves that are also grinding to halt like this are around the same time; around 1060 a.d

Messing up around the same time frame? Interesting... are you also controlling a large country?
relatively speaking yes, but not too big. I'm playing as a sultan who is ruling over the southern half of spain, morrocco and Mali.
Not particularly big, so I assume we can say that the size of your controlled lands probably isn't an issue (and isn't one of the aims in the game to expand?). Seeing that it happened to me when the Halilids declared yet another war, I'm assuming that something is fucking up in the game somewhere, possibly the database is become too large to deal with by the Clausewitz engine... or maybe not, I don't know. Waiting now to see what experience Andrew has when loading the save on his Windows machine.
So yes, it happens on my Windows laptop, but not on my iMac. Interesting. Mind you my iMac is topend and my laptop isn't.
It does feel like the issue I mentioned upthread, with large empires and lots of rebel stacks. If you save it uncompressed, you might be able to edit out some of those numerous enemy armies walking around your territory and make it playable.
In the meantime I'll log this as a bug. Thanks for your co-operation, folks!
