I'm having a hard time determining the difference between a good faith effort and a bad faith effort.

I just finished a mission where I should have withdrawn. Decided to give it a go. I lost all my mechs to the enemy lance, but I took down three of theirs. I expected a good faith effort for my trouble, instead got a bad faith effort and no reimbursement of any kind.

I've never gotten a good faith effort. I've withdrawn immediately, and a bad faith effort is expected. I've destroyed one mech, also received a bad score. So I figured the threshold for Good Faith was 50%.

After this match I have no idea. What gives?

At least one objective must be complete to to get a good faith effort. So if you're getting stomped and swarmed in Battle mission by multiple lances that are called out, try to take out one lance to get good faith before withdrawing. You can tell which 'mechs (or other objectives) are tied to an objective by moving your mouse cursor over an objective and seeing which targets have a pulsing plus next to/on them.

Even Good Faith effort will never cover your expenses if you lose 'mechs completely. It's much wiser to withdraw the moment it looks you are in serious trouble.
