Hi all,

I don't think it has ever discussed here, sorry if I'm wrong...

What about an event that, when a province fall to Rebels, give them a chance to kill the actual regent (unless he's gone at war, in that cas it would be the chancellor for exemple, or even members of his family) ?
Like this ,Rebels would be more interesting than now :)

Hey there, Carmina.

Various proposals have been made regarding things the rebels should do / ought to be able to do. The most popular one is the EU2-style being able to usurp provinces from the player. For reasons understandable to some and unfathomable to many, the programmers have decided that this route isn't the one that they want to take.

Killing the ruler is not a new idea, although I'm not sure if its ever had its own discussion thread, so that probably is a first. ;)

Personally, I think if something is to be done about the rebels then a drastic rewrite is needed, if nothing else to teach the AI to take them far more seriously. Doubly so if the rebels are to be made more dangerous. I don't think I'm alone...unfortunately, I don't think its likely to happen. If there is a CK2, its the kind of thing that I'm sure *will* happen, but probably not in CK1.

I'm assuming that you're still a relative newcomer to the Paradox forums, given your post count. First of all, welcome. Second of all, hopefully to stop any disheartening feelings, let me just say:

Paradox have a rather unique patching attitude in that they genuinely try to improve the game rather than just try to fix the bugs in the early versions. That said, its worth remembering that all the time spent patching a game is effectively money lost in coding time, where all the time coding for a new game is (fingers crossed for them) money to be gained. As a result, the older the Paradox game the less likely there are to be official changes to the code.

So major changes (unfortunately rebels, which are hard-coded, are included in this) are unlikely to happen unless they're correcting a major game fault. Minor changes, such as adding events, are far more likely to happen. Even if they don't make it into official patches, there are a number of very good community-made mods around, and elements of some of the better ones have already found their way into official mods.

Unfortunately not as things stand. Events rely on a set of pre-coded conditions which can be checked and actions which they can cause. Whilst these have been updated, and may possibly be extended in the future, currently there is no tag to, for example, check if a province is being seiged by rebels.

Without that, there's no way of creating events specifically to do with the effects of a rebel siege. Especially since, IIRC, you can only check if a siege is in progress, not if it has been won or lost.

I think the closest you could get would be to create an event which would kill a random member of the court of the ruler (you could narrow this down to court positions, not children, not females, etc.) if their capital province was under siege, presumably explained as their execution after being captured by the enemy.

However, this would not be rebel-specific but would potentially trigger during any siege.

Why would they go elective? The rebels would most likely be led by a demagogue-like leader who would install himself and his family as the ruling dynasty in the name of his supporters. It would be appointment by conquest to primogeniture. Even if that happens to be the peasants, its unlikely that the peasants would ever be allowed to rule. The other stands are too necessary for a realm to function, and would swiftly fill the power vacuum.

More importantly, though, IIRC we've already had statements from Johan to the effect that rebels will not, repeat, will not, repeat, will not be allowed to conquer land. It isn't the way he wants CK to go.
