So i started a succession campaign for fun where we each play 25 years (max you can play less if you dont have the time/want to) and this short aar will be about the journey from 497 to 522 for Bactria

Skärmbild (991).png

Beautifull bactria, bactria had long been loyal to the selucid dynasty but when the dynasty fell their replacement did not help bactria in the wake of a massive mauryan invasion. Although Bactria proved to be victorius in the maurya war we suffered heavily for it and set us back several decades in planning.
Skärmbild (992).png

To ease the tentions of our border provinces we decided to let them be governed by their kin to make them more complacent with our rule.
Skärmbild (993).png

The Antigonid realm to the far west attacked persia unexpetedly in early 503. Bactria decided to let Persia figure it out on their own as they had forced us to do when maurya attacked a generation prior.
Skärmbild (994).png

Persia saw the writing on the wall and tried to placate us with money as if the blood of our fallen countrymen could be sold away that easily.
Skärmbild (995).png

We decided to reform our army to help in the inevitable freedom war we no doubt will have to do to be free from the persian yoke.
Skärmbild (996).png

Persia became humbled in the west and we saw their moment of weakness and decided to strike.
Skärmbild (997).png

We were not the only enemies Persia had made, it was quite easy to convince the horse lords to the west and the sogdians to our east to stand with us.
Skärmbild (998).png
Skärmbild (999).png
Skärmbild (1000).png

Which changed the situation of the war quite drastically in our favor and turned a hard war into a quite easy one if i'm being honest.
Skärmbild (1001).png

In 3 years we had overrun Parthia and Aria and mini shul a city state that had rebelled against bactria in the past which persia stole for themselves in the peace treaty after the rebellion.
Skärmbild (1002).png

It took another 4 years of hard fought fighting but we were eventually able to conquer most of the eastern portions of the persian empire for ourselves and vassalised parthia and mini shul for ourselves.
Skärmbild (1003).png
Skärmbild (1005).png
Skärmbild (1006).png

The war had helped us to perfect steppe warfare something that surely will help in the times to come.
Skärmbild (1007).png

The loyalty of our border provinces are quite low but are making a recovery after seeing our victorious soldiers return home.
Skärmbild (1011).png

Sogdia draged us into a war with kucha and their revolt and the least i could do to reward their help in the last war was to join them even if only as a gesture.

Interesting!

Finally, an Imperator AAR that isn't mine!

I'd join, but my computer can only load one I:R save at a time... as in, only 1 can exist.

547 AUC

The end of Krateros reign set up for reocucring destabilization under his chosen sucessor Exak, as not one but THREE pretenders were sent away adventuring as mercenaries, only to return and refuse to submit to Exak.

civ war did not break out however, as Exak could maintain enough powerbase between himself, the major families and the newly adopted hier Candramukhe.

1601064246124.png

Later, Candramukhe took a young wive from the Magid family - most prominent of the major families in Bactria... she is not yet with child.. but one day, gods willing...

1601064525390.png

Foreign policy has been less eventful. We abandoned our norht-eastern Ally Sogdia through abstaining from intervening in their civil war, but not before taking Shule to the east as a new Satrapy in a war started by Sogdia.

in the west, Sakia accepted tribal vasslage and Pissuria & Parnia are being braught to their knes by the sword.

finally, Bactria has seen much investment in its inrastructure over the last 25 years. in particular, many mines and cattle-farms have been established.

I suppose you just don't want the Maurya to take an interest

I suppose you just don't want the Maurya to take an interest

I didn't have much of a chance to interact with Maurya in my 25 years, just bosted relations a bit. would consider destabilizing the border a bit with supporting rebels / inspiring disloyalty /befriending the governor of their closest region.Maurya are significantly stronger than Persia who has a civil war ongoing

My turn next, hope I manage the 25 years. I have read all ARRs a few times so I have a feeling of our tradition. Dont have time to watch Todies stream, perhaps I will do it retroactively.

Bactria, 547 AUC (around 200 BCE)

Five generations have passed since the Seleucid Satrap of Bactria Sophystes has defended the easternmost Hellenic lands, conquered by Alexandros Megas, from the agressive Indians from the lands across the Hindu Kush mountain range. His successor Krateros managed to gain independence from the Seleucid empire pushing Bactria towards becoming one of the major power in Central Asia. Since then, despite being ruled by Macedonian nobles with support from a minority of Bactrian citizens, Bactria has become a melting pot of cultures with its current ruler being of Tocharian descent. The Tocharian ruler Candramuchle married a Macedonian from a afluent Magid family in order to prove his legitimacy and loyalty to the Graeco-Bactrian cause.
2020_09_26_3.png

Taking care of cultural relationships within his empire, Candramuchle revoked citizenship rights from a minor culture from the southern periphery...
2020_09_26_12.png

...while giving the right of inheritance to his native Tocharians.
2020_09_26_13.png

Being of Tocharian descent, he planned long-term for an eventual integration of Tocharian countries within the Bactrian empire. A plan, that he will however have to pass on to his successors if he is to succeed.
2020_09_26_15.png

Furthermore he started a long process of integrating the client state of Parthia within the empire.
2020_09_26_16.png

Despite being married to a woman from the most powerful Magid family, the old Macedonian nobles still stirred disloyalty within the empire, disliking Candramuchle for being a foreign barbarian from the desert mountains to the north. Candramuchle had to change the unequal distribution of holdings of the major families, revoking several populous holding from a disloyal general, an important member of the Magid family.
2020_09_26_20.png

Apart from the hard work of trying to stave off the continuously brewing civil war, Candramuchle had personal moments of happiness as well. The most memorable of these was the birth of his first-born son and heir to the Bactrian empire. He named him Oxyartes after the father of Roxane, the Bactrian tribal princess that Alexandros Megas married in these lands several generations ago. This way he legitimized his successors' claim to the throne, seing the soul of Bactria as a combination of Western and Eastern ancestry.
2020_09_26_27.png

Candramuchle also fathered an illegitimate child, but he couldn't afford to do anything to anger the Macedonian elite.
2020_09_27_7.png

Candramuchle finished the war with the nomadic tribes of Pissuria...
2020_09_27_1.png

... and so consolidated Bactrian western borders.
2020_09_27_5.png

Consoliting Bactrian economy, Candramuchle built a huge temple complex in the capital of Oskobara and dedicated it to the dinastic founder Sophystes.
2020_09_27_18.png

The statue of the horse of Alexandros Megas was dedicated there as well.

Reorganising the armies, Candramuchle declared a war on the former Bactrian overlord, now known as the Persian Empire...
2020_09_27_27.png

... while he tried to stave off potential Mauryan aggression.
2020_09_27_32.png

The war with the former overlord was going well do to the fact that the enemy had internal issues and low manpower. The blessing of the founder Sophystes helped as well with dedications being constantly arranged in the new temple complex in the capital.
2020_09_27_47.png

The was fought in a cat-and-mouse manner with reinforcements playing an important role.
2020_09_27_49.png

2020_09_27_55.png

Then suddenly Maurya declared a war on Bactria...
2020_09_27_64.png

... so the war with Persia had to be finished earlier than planned.
2020_09_27_67.png

All armies were given orders to force march to the Eastern mountains...
2020_09_27_68.png

...while the merchants had to reroute important trades as many goods were previously being imported from India.
2020_09_27_69.png

Mauryans lead a diversion in the southern coastal deserts...
2020_09_27_73.png

...but their main forces crossed Hindu Kush and threatened to overcome Bactrian core provinces.

Well, I was waiting for it

Despite encroaching dangerously close to the Bactrian capital, the armies of Candramuchle managed to turn the tide, crossed the Hindu Kush and laid waste to not one but two Alexandrias, cities established by the armies of Alexandros Megas in the Indian subcontinent, but now largely deserted by the Macedonian colonists.
2020_09_27_79.png

2020_09_27_80.png

2020_09_27_82.png

Nevertheless the war was hard and Candramuchle employed mercenaries to help him in his war effort.
2020_09_27_92.png

2020_09_27_95.png

Most engagement were sought in the mountains of Hindu Kush
2020_09_27_97.png

The constant warring has however depleted the manpower of Bactria with many families loosing their sons. Candramuchle thus focused on policies that would enlarge the pool of new recruits by turning to old Persian traditions...
2020_09_27_84.png

While the war with Maurya was in full swing, the Persian Empire descended into civil war with the rebelling forces asking for alliance and help from Bactria. Candramuchle obliged, seeing himself increasingly as the new Diadoch in the east, wishing to steer the geopolitics into the favour of the Bactrian Empire.
2020_09_27_104.png

Candramuchle decided not to pursue the Indians into the cacthchment of the Indus river and endorced peace with them. Bactria gained further easy to defend valleys in the mighty Hindu Kush.
2020_09_27_111.png

Which Candramuchle decided to fortify strongly, building a mighty fortress in Alexandria Kaukaso.
2020_09_27_112.png

Due to severe lack of new recruits, Candramuchle decided to give most major Bactrian cities forums and encourage the local populace to join the cause of the Bactrian elite by opening up and integrating the freemen into the military.
2020_09_27_115.png

Candramuchle's son however didnt grow up to be the son Candramuchle wanted. He hoped his son would come to his senses before he dies.
2020_09_27_118.png

To make the intergration of the Parthian society faster, Candramuchle decidet to grant Parthians the right of intermarriage.
2020_09_27_122.png

And so in 472 AUC (around 175 BCE) the story of the melting pot that is the Graeco-Bactrian Empire continues.

Other than the never ending war, that was a very fun playthrough (mostly building). The perma-war dampened my inclination/zeal for storytelling considerably, leaving me with not allot to say other than I tried to leave the WorstPro a better scenario than the first one I left for him in 472 :).

If you can find a way to close the 25 year war we're all set to annex Sogdia (as per the vision of Candramuchle).

PS, taxation policy set to harsh for extra gold. I mention it because the setting is not readily identifiable @ the economy tab.

What's this 25 Year War? Who's it against?

The Maurya are defeated...

Well, Parthia won't threaten Rome or whoever the Near East, but Bactria might...

The Seleucids became Persian? Seems weird, but I won't judge them...

I think it's a bug. I tried to close it after 2 or 3 years and annex a few provinces but found there was no way to do it. Neither side seems willing to end it.
See "Bug Report" link for more.

Yea, it was my fault. I allied Persian revolt while still at war with Maurya and accepted theur call to war. Shouldnt have done that.
