After about two dozens of disappointing HoI 3 test games i am fed up and will play my beloved HoI 2 DD again. I have a few questions since it's so long ago i last played it. Please help me getting in again:



1) Combined arms bonus:
a) What combination of hard and soft units have i got to combine? Is 2 hard 1 soft in a 3-div corps correct? Other combinations possible?
b) Does CA bonus only apply in defense or does it help during attack also?
c) Can i combine 2 hard and and 1 HQ to get CA bonus?


2) Autopromotion:
a) Do i remember correctly that in sue for autopromotion commanders for land units need to be in charge while for air and sea they need to be unassigned?
b) What are the unit ratios for land/air/sea i need to get an autopromotion?
c) Where do i find the remove 'old guards' events by Hallsten and other excellent people?


3) Production
a) Do serials automatically switch to the most recent tech while running and a new tech is finished?
b) When conquering something - how much ressources and IC are being taken over?


4) Patches and Armageddon:
a) I used to play DD with 1.3a. Is there any newer patch around? Can i play with the 'beta' patches without having Armageddon?
b) What was new with Armageddon? I don't have it but would consider to buy an Anthology or something if the changes are worth it. Any ingame changes (historical scenarios, new events, new AI scripts) worth mentioning? AFAIK, Arma offers
- brigade attachments via production
- upgradable modules for ships
- full IC takeover (what i don't want)
- ahistorical casual gaming scenarios

What else?

anything from 0.33 to 0.66 ratio. Therefore, 2 hard + 1 soft is ok.

IC - 0.1
manpower - 0.1
resources - 0.5

consider using foreign IC or foreign manpower ministers - they can increase takover from 0.1 to 0.25

you need Armageddon for the latest 1.3 beta (2) patch.

With the latest beta-patch this no longer seems to be true - it doesn´t matter whether they are assigned or not; I´ve noticed autopromotion in either case, land, naval, or air commanders.

Good to see the community is still intact! :)

I will keep an eye on the upcoming mod. While i love playing vanilla (i.e. playing as it's meant to be and since DD was close to any perfection one could expect from a detailed strategy game) i highly appreciate the effort to keep this masterpiece alive and improve it further.

Despite many new playing options in HoI 3 i really look forward to do again what isn't possible there:

- ceding and requesting territory
- historical reasonable events and AI behaviour
- playing fast without crashes on a quadcore
and so much more.

Sorry, but this is incorrect. In unmodded HoI2 (and Doomsday, and Arma), the base value for conquered (but non-national) provinces is 20% IC, 10% manpower and 50% resources.

I will keep an eye on the upcoming mod.
It's not a mod, it's a new game. Just like For the Glory is for EU2 - that one has already been released, so feel free to have a look.

Also, the questions you've asked indicate that you have never heard of the wonderful HoI2 Wiki. ;)

Thx for the correction. As with all the other things, i did know all this but simply have forgotten after about two years of not playing HoI 2 at all.

You might have seen that the questions i asked are not 'casual player' questions but issues someone comes up to after reaching the point of mastering the general mechanics. I have been out but i am back (at least until HoI 3 will work properly).
I found HoI 2 wiki already again and did find answers to some thingy. But thx for giving the link. :) Wiki is helpful as always. Apparently not much has changed in the meantime.

What's still open:
- What are the unit ratios for land/air/sea i need to get an autopromotion?
A question i could never find an answer to even in my grognard days. There are ratios in one of the txt files but actually i cannot translate them directly in game terms.
As you already guess i like to optimise things out - even when it means to make several test games before doing a single serious campaign. Knowing the exact number of units i need to get an autopromotion would be very good. Regarding production i still have my optimsed builds in mind (at least for GER and JAP). Rest will return and further be improved over the course of my upcoming campaigns.
