So I started a new game as Godred Crovan, King of the Isles in 1066. You don't hear about that position much, despite being near the action in England. But it's really interesting. He's married to Harald Hardrade's daughter, with an available younger brother and sister. I married the sister to Denmark and got an alliance there, and had early victories uniting Galloway from Scotland and conquering Ulster. From there, I founded my own true Kingdom of the Isles, and Harald Hardrade managed to conquer England.
It got interesting, however, because Hardrade died, then my wife, and... suddenly my children had weak claims on England. I pressed it, died of consumption, my first son won the war, and...
...I never know where to take it from here.
TL;DR: House Crovan is actually really well positioned to gain some really good stuff. Try them out.
