So what's the most number of children you've ever seen someone have? Either during a long single marriage or across several marriages.

I've just seen my ruler have 17 children and he's still going. He's on his third marriage now and could have had more if not for one of his wives dying in childbirth. He's 56 and only has 6 fertility, not a bad effort.

17 children?
I assume that you don't use the gavelkind law of inheritance? ;)

My record stands at ten. Both (the mom as the dad, that is) were lustful, so they went at it like mad.

But 17... Wow. :p

With CK 1.05 I once had a ruler (a von Habsburg) who had 20 legitimate children and 9 bastards.

APPENDIX B

The children of Albrecht IV

Legitimate children:

1. Karl ‘the Protector’ von Habsburg (1306 AD – 1350 AD). He was the eldest son and for most of the time the heir of Albrecht IV. When he reached the age of sixteen his father made him the duke of Kärnten, Karl then started to behave strangely and some people even said that he went crazy. Karl became a the leader of the Hawk-God cult, who worshipped as their god the Great Hawk. and denounced the Catholic faith. Albrecht IV, had shown great patience with his son but now it was obvious that Karl had gone to far. Karl was disinherited in favour of his half-brother Philipp, but Karl was allowed to stay on as duke. But Karl went further, in 1342 AD he announced that he was no longer bound to the oath he had taken when he became duke and from now on was only obliged to recognise as his overlord the Hawk-God that he worshipped. This was more then Albrecht IV could take and Albrecht IV marched with an army towards the castle of his son, high up in the Austrian Alps. Which also served as the religious centre of the Hawk-God Cult. Karl who knew he had gone to far this time surrendered to his father, who then felt sorry again and though Karl had to give up his duke title of Kärnten and his county-title of Vas, he was allowed to stay on as count of Kärnten until his death in 1350 AD.
2. Otto ‘the Sodomite’ von Habsburg (1310 AD - ). With his second son, Albrecht IV also had his troubles and towards him he was much less lenient. Otto, who was a valiant warrior was intended to become the royal marshal and marry a young woman of the high nobility. But each time Albrecht IV suggested a good candidate, Otto refused, making his father angrier and angrier until. There were already some nasty rumours going about Otto and his ‘friends’ but Albrecht IV refused to believe those, until one day when he marched into his sons quarts and found him there in bed together with a young, male servant. Furious Albrecht IV threatened to have his son murdered, but his wife, queen Agnes Piast and the stepmother of Otto convinced him not to. Instead of that Otto was sent in exile to the county of Bourbon, where he would spent the rest of his life.
3. Friedrich von Habsburg (1311 AD – 1334 AD). The third son of Albrecht IV was made duke of Krain in 1327 AD he died without having produced an heir of his own in 1334 AD.
4. Werner von Habsburg (1312 AD – 1333 AD). Werner was made the duke of Bar in 1328 AD he died without a son in 1333 AD.
5. Albrecht von Habsburg (1316 AD – 1336 AD). Albrecht was the eldest son of Albrecht IV his second marriage, Albrecht was made duke of Croatia in 1332 AD, after his death in 1336 AD this title went to his young son Kresimir.
6. Rudolf von Habsburg (1317 AD – 1337 AD). He was made the duke of Alsace in 1334 AD, he died without a male issue in 1337 AD.
7. Rupprecht von Habsburg (1318 AD – 1337 AD). This young boy was probably murdered by the Piast duke of Mazowiecka as an revenge for the death of the dukes brother, though nothing about this can be said with certainty.
8. Philipp von Habsburg (1323 AD - ). After Karl, Philipp became his fathers favourite and when Karl fell into disgrace he was selected as heir to the throne he was given the duchy of Bourgogne in 1339 AD.
9. Ordulf ‘the Hawk’ von Habsburg (1333 AD – 1341 AD). Young Ordulf lead a rather dramatic life, he stood under the strong influence of his eldest half-brother Karl who said that Ordulf was the new Messiah. In order to prove that this was true Ordulf was told that as the new Hawk-God he should be able to fly but to the shock of all the followers of this cult, Ordulf felt in his attempt to fly and he died of the wounds from the fall in
10. Margarete von Habsburg (1300 AD - ). Married to the heir of the duchy of Silesia.
11. Cecilie von Habsburg (1301 AD – 1327 AD). Married to a Danish nobleman.
12. Helchen von Habsburg (1304 AD – 1347 AD). Married to an Italian nobleman.
13. Berta von Habsburg (1314 AD – 1335 AD). Married to a German nobleman.
14. Ursula von Habsburg (1315 AD – 1325 AD).
15. Klara von Habsburg (1327 AD - ). Married to a Bohemian count.
16. Mechthild von Habsburg (1329 AD - ). Married to a German nobleman.
17. Brunhilde von Habsburg (1336 AD – 1336 AD).
18. Richenza von Habsburg (1345 AD - ).
19. Kunigunde von Habsburg (1346 AD – 1346 AD). Died of the Plague
20. Hedwiga von Habsburg (1350 AD - ).

Illegitimate children :

21. Sigfried von Habsburg (1312 AD – 1344 AD). Was made duke of Luxembourg in 1328 AD, he died in a war with the sheikh of Andernach.
22. Leopold von Habsburg (1314 AD - ). Was made count of Usora in 1330 AD.
23. Eberhard von Habsburg (1317 AD - ). Was made duke of Szekezfehervar in 1342 AD.
24. Welf von Habsburg (1318 AD - ). Was made duke of Alsace in 1337 AD after the death of his half-brother Rudolf, he was later legitimised.
25. Giselbert von Habsburg (1323 AD – 1330 AD).
26. Jakob von Habsburg (1324 AD - ). Was made count of Mesembria, was later legitimised.
27. Hermann von Habsburg (1325 AD – 1343 AD). Was made duke of Krain after the death of his half-brother Friedrich, Hermann died without a male issue in 1343 AD from the Plague.
28. Viktor von Habsburg (1326 AD - ). Was the third son of Albrecht IV who became duke of Krain in 1344 AD.

Well Habsburgs were known to be pretty fertile bunch. :p

I had one ruler who ended up with some twenty children while going through seven wives. Ironically most of those seven died in childbirth. :D

Veldmaarschalk - that is a lot of children. Although it seems to me that is an awfully high attrition rate. Your (emperor?/king) seems to have outlived most of his children.

For me having the greatest number of children possible is not usually feasible. Most of the time my wife lives till my monarch is old and gray. The only time I take a second or third wife is if I feel I don't have enough sons to ensure my dynasty continues. Exception if I'd prefer one of my brothers to inherit.

However in my current County of Momvasia (whichever one Sparta is in) game my monarch and his wife had about about 7 (all surviving) children before they hit 30. And a couple of bastards in addition.

I can't remember the most I've seen in CK, but IRL one of my great-grandmothers had like 18 kids. Married at 16, had her first child a year later (1880) and kept having 'em ever year and a half or so till she was almost 50 (last child born 1912).

I try to stop my ruler from getting kids when he is at seven or so sons. The family becomes waaaay too large otherwise. And I have to fight too many wars to provide them with counties without at the same time giving up my valuable core demesne :eek:o (Can't have my own sons be landless... either they become bishop at my own court or they have to get their own county/duchy.
