I´m not wondering about my 150 % inflation in 1600....but i´m wondering if i will ever reach land tech 2.
I noticed that my research costs lowered everytime when i had war with an european country.....but only 4 times....now no reduction is happening anymore.
I cant believe that i need still 30000 credits although whiteman bonus for land 2!!! Maybe a penalty for my expansion i fear.....
Its my first time playing the Azteks...maybe its a normal thing......
Tell me about your experiences with the Azteks.....goals,technical progress, inflation, land size....etc.

Ok. You've gotten rid of your whiteman penalty to tech. You've still got a couple of penalties:

  • isolation penalty: You probably don't know all that many countries. Get to know more to reduce the isolation penalty.
  • tech group: You're exotic. Too bad, cannot be helped.
  • religion tech speed: You're pagan. If you go Christian by random event this will improve markedly.
  • Inflation. Well, you know how it is. Every single ducat you earn should be going towards infrastructure, not something silly like landtech.
  • dp-sliders: You know what I mean.
So, of the five remaining reasons for your nasty tech costs, only one of them can be affected by you within a short time: the isolation penalty. The isolation penalty can be voided entirely by map-trading with just about any European power, if that's your cup of tea.

As PE said, you should have 100% going to infra tech!

from my experience of going from pagan to catholic for Iroquios made no difference to my tech costs.

However after converting provinces cultures into my own my tax haul increased .... but I don;t think you were talking about that.

You're right. I was talking about the tech speed bonus, which is +0 for Catholicism and -25 for Paganism. Strange that you didn't observe the difference for the Iroquois.

Don't worry about inflation. Resign yourself to no advances becasue your inflation is going to keep going up and you will never lower it. My advice, go conquer the Incas and get even more gold. Who cares if your inflation is 500% by the games end. You'll be loaded while every other nation struggles to buy a 300 ducat infantry.

I played Aztec until 1653 (veryhard diff/normal aggr)
I went hard naval from the beginning (until land land/naval =2), because I need the random explorers, then went hard free trade for the extra settlers.
I had conquered all of south america by 1550, later took most of north america (all the other pagans), all the the west-african nations (including Kongo and Maroc) by 1619, colonized my way almost to south-africa, and own almost all of northern africa (including alexandria COT, currently crushing Nubia) and some provinces in the middle east. I also own Australia. You need a LOT of income with such inflation (215%) and lousy tech group. Current monthly income 327 ducats/month and 26 manpower/year. Let your income rise faster than your inflation.
I have Trade Infra and Naval level 2, land tech level 6 (next level costs 38K gold).
Don`t invest in infra. Getting from level 1 to level 2 raised my monthly income by just 2 gold. Not worth getting to level 3 as the costs are insane and with the high inflation breweries are too expensive. Get to trade 2 for the TP`s then put everything in land.

I got a bit stuck at this point, as I cant seem to invade Iberia (although I am very close since I own Northern Africa) because of massive numbers of superior enemy fleets that patrol the waters and shoot my invasionfleets to zero morale in no time, and continuing in the middle east will give me so many more neighbours that I dont have the diplomats to end the BB wars (and not enough manpower to fight them). And I am having bad luck lately getting explorers to continue past South Africa or go on in Polynesia. Since I made a lot of errors in that game I started anew.

P.S. things get a lot better once you get 5 European DOWs so you can build cavalry. With massive cavalry you can easily crush and annex the other pagans.
