Well, I for one appreciate this DLC for three reasons:

1. It's a good argument in general against DLC. By citing this example, you have a plus one rhetoric score in any DLC discussion.
2. It's a good argument in general for any forumite pushing a ludicrous, insane idea. I for one demand flying humvees as trade goods for EU IV. What? You don't agree? But in CK II Aztecs can invade medieval Europe!
3. It's a good argument in general against Paradox censorship policy. Massive human sacrifice genocide, my next AAR! Moctezuma kills all the Christians!

Oh, and don't allow yourself to be smooth-talked. Paradox may claim that patches aren't delayed by this, but it's also a fact that at least some better spent resources of the company are currently wasted on Super Nazi Aztecs Breaking Free ...

The sense of entitlement is overwhelming.

"Paradox should do this, Paradox should do that!",

CK2 is finished, done, dusted. The game was effectively finished at release ( which is nice) so quite frankly the whole " Wah I wanted Vikings!" attitude makes members of the community look childish.
No, people have expectations of Paradox, and are disappointed with this DLC. Some people have chosen less then effective means of expressing their disappointment, granted, but don't just assert that people who disagree with you are childish.

EUIV port after Aztecs have conquer europe?

I've already been thinking about this for EUIII. Absolutely can't wait to see how the various modteams working on converters handle the possibility that now there might be Aztecs in Europe. I'm gonna guess it'll be like how I picture my current CKII game will import: they've got a sizeable chunk of land and a nice sized army, but they'll quickly fall behind in the tech race and it'll be a race for them to catch back up technologically while their smaller, more advanced neighbors chip away at them. With any luck, whatever Westernization equivalent EUIV has will be something that the AI will actually be capable of actively pursuing... unlike EUIII, were the vast majority of the time the non-Western nations are content to twiddle their thumbs while Portugal overruns them.

It probably took them all of five minutes to make new localisations for the events and to copy/paste the culture/units from EUIV.

Doomdark already said this isn't affecting any release dates or number of releases.

Quoted for truth. My god, paradox would be better off not making DLCs judging by the reception they get here.

Was it now? Without retinues - it was quite incomplete (TBH I would say that retinues should actually cost maintenance money, but be 10x cheaper then mercs.), without ortodox religion features - it was quite incomplete. Not having playable Muslims could be ok, but adding them as a playable side makes the game much more interesting.

Now, the game does not have long-term relationships between the dynasties, thus I can press Hwice badly, and a new-born Hwice will not care about his father, grandfather and 3 patriarchs before them, who died in my dungeon. If my ruler dies - all those hard-pressed Hwice will say: "OK, your father was a bastard, his father was a bastard... but we belive you will be kind to us, we will help you to rule...."
I would say it is incomplete.

Pope is a randomly generated character. He is sometimes a cynical sinner, who cannot care less about christ. Well. that would be possible within a timeframe if he had a powerful allies (think Alexander VI), but not having a proper curia mechanics makes it seem incomlete.

How about the rise of the trade republics? Venice, Hansa, Genoa... all rised during this period.

And the cadet branches?

My grudge is not for releasing a fantazy DLC, but with the priorities. It would be cool to have such DLC, along with a Knights vs. Zombies DLC, in the end of CK2 lifecycle, after all the mechanics is updated and all the controversies are fixed, at least at 1066 start date.

I agree completely.
And I truly, truly hope they don't add anything at all that makes you 'must' buy this DLC. You pretty much have to buy Sword of Islam and Legacy of Rome to fully enjoy the game, there are so many features in the DLCs that you just won't get with vanilla.

Give us playable republics, functioning (and interesting) pope system and playable pagans before you give us this.

This is why it's hard to take some of detractors seriously, the massive overstatements on things you disagree with and the huge sense of entitlement i.e. paradox should be doing what I want them to do not what they think is fun and interesting.

I know, right? You play one game overrun by Aztecs, you've experienced it. Is anybody really going to have this mod enabled more than once? Sounds like it will get stale pretty quickly.
So what. For a company in the game business, you make money by selling your game (and not just the latest DLC) to as many customers as possible.

CK2 has, at this point, half a dozen or more "components" on the market.

You have probably bought all of them. If you like a new DLC, you buy that one and this puts ~5€ into Paradox pockets.

If the average non-hardcore gamer, who has not bought CK2 so far because he cares shit about historicity, likes the new DLC, he buys it *PLUS* the base game *PLUS* probably all the DLCs out there, putting something like 20-50€ into paradox pockets.

See it? You want to make people who haven't bought the game so far into customers. Crazy stuff like an Aztecs, Zombies or Star Wars (!!!) DLC are exactly the right thing to do that.

And in contrast to LoR or SoI I doubt this DLC will add anything to the base game, or come with much of a free patch. So your base CK2 will remain historically "pure", and unspoiled by those frivolous money grubbing true-history-perverting DLCs. isn't that a Win-Win both for Paradox' cashflow and for the forum "Ultras" ?? :)

That the forums may get overrun with an influx of "casual" gamers would be a side effect that you'd just have to cope with.

Every popular football club here in Europe has "Ultra" fans who are much like the traditionalist CK2 fans here... they're passionate about their hobby, and take it far too seriously, but they're the ones who put in the extra effort to create a thriving community and the proper atmosphere.

It would be sad if all the CK2 players were just "casual" fans who bought CK2 for the zombies / star wars DLCs and didn't care about history. :)

Dont like aztec dlc. Time could have been used improving the game or making historical correct dlc . I love magicka in its own way ,but this is not the way of ck2.
But i understand if PI just wants to try it out and see what effect it gives. If they see less purchases in contrast with previous dlc ,than im sure they wont bother anymore.

I'm not concerned with casual gamers. I'm concerned with game content.

Okay, now that you mention it, I'm a little concerned about casual gamers, but that's not a discussion for this thread, or any thread, as it always leads to flame wars.

Really? It's the worst the idea you've ever heard of, you've never heard of a worse idea than this one?

This is why it's hard to take some of detractors seriously, the massive overstatements on things you disagree with and the huge sense of entitlement i.e. paradox should be doing what I want them to do not what they think is fun and interesting.

I haven't heard a worse idea for a game come out of a game studio before. A game with a fan base consisting of weird, hardcore history nerds having a fantasy expansion about Aztecs invading Europe (of all possible fantasy scenarios)? What next? A Call of Duty game set in the Enlightenment era? A Godzilla scenario for a train simulator game? An 18+ ultraviolent version of Mario?
