First time playing CK2 since vanilla, picked up all DLCs and set off with my usual choice of a minor scandinavian count. Fast forward 200 years, I'm king of norway, sweden and about to inherit a rather large Rus. I was contemplating setting up a brother or younger son in Rus later on and then the il-khanate appears. I get called to war immediately, and to my surprise Rus surrenders in about 2 months leaving everything in Rus to the Il-khanate. The remainder gets inherited by me a couple of months later. The il-khanate promptly invades khwarezim, but seems to get stuck because they cant reach the last province inside Persia. Weird.

Next, the GH appears, gobbles up what minors are left between the eastern end and the il-khanate and invades Norway - probably because I had inherited a single, isolated province in the middle of nowhere. Their 125k doomstack promptly occupies the province - and then seemingly cant move on. I try using my puny 30-40k army to take it back, but get wiped out. War score stuck on 22% and the mongols refuse to settle, even when I offer to surrender.

Fast forward 70 years or so. GH and Il-khanate are still trying to invade, getting nowhere. Numerous changes of rulers on both sides - nothing short of editing the save or console seems to fix this. Then the Aztecs appear, invading France and England. In about a month, both surrender - I just get pop-ups about London and Paris falling, and thats the end of both countries. A crusade is called a few years later, taking back France. England still remains under Aztec rule.

Are invasions supposed to work like this? Surrender when capital is taken? And not being able to move stacks across neutral terrioritory is a bit odd too.

This happens all the time. I have multiple screenshots from multiple games.

The AI is so bad in this game that it literally doesn't know how to move troops around when it has too many.

I've seen the AI park 50k troops in Karelia for no reason. I've seen it sail tens of thousands to the Canaries when it was trying to move across the Middle East.

Paradox should be downright embarrassed but instead we get patches that fix the wives of minor Breton counts in 950 AD instead of FIXING THE ACTUAL GAME.

I've seen wonkiness from the Hordes, but never quite to the level you're describing.

And no, they won't accept early surrenders in invasions... and the annoying thing is, you probably can't console switch and have them successfully demand it from you, either. Possible in EUIII, but the diplomacy mechanics prevent such workarounds in CKII.

I do know taking capitals in any war will increase the war score a good chunk... not sure if there's anything special about invasions, but the contribution they give might've been enough both times to push the war score up to 100%. The event is probably just the same as the Mongol ones when they take places like Novgorod or Kiev or Baghdad, only showing that these great cities are now falling to the Aztec menace.

they do have seems AI problem, if they invide you with invasion of Rus CB and you have like one county in rus, there rest somewhere else, they seems to get stuck in that county and never move out.

By AI logic, they need to occupy all your land that in invasion CB (1 county in rus) and after that they protect it. problem is it is not enogth to get 100% score thougth score will slow increase as time go, as they did occupy all land they need to.

About not accesping surrentder - thta is coded because of caracter of CB. The more warscore they get - the more land they will get as result. so, if they have stronger army AI see no point of accepting surrender.

What mutineer said.

If the hordes already took what they declared war for, they will not advance. Warscore will steadily rise and will eventually reach 100%, so why bother. It is WAD.

I've both the unmoving armies causing decades long war over a single country when they could walk two counties over through neutral territory and win in less than 30-40 years. Even worse is that makes usurping the title held there impossible for a generation or more.

I've also had a game where I owned the Canaries and had a Seljuk 50k stack stay there for many many decades. They crushed quite a few rebllions for me so I was only minorly bummed about how stupid it was in that case. But it always looked stupid.

If you'd ever like to surrender in an invasion when the AI won't let you type "neg_diplo" in the console. Then type "play [invader's charid]" and accept the surrender.

well if your willing to use commands turn on character info, go to propose peace, surrender and then while still at this screen switch to the mongol ruler with the play command and then send the peace agreement to yourself, though cheating sucks this could fix your problem.

I saw the same problem in a hands off game. When GH/IK were dividing Cumania the original CB took part of the realm that was in a civil war so they were constantly fighting wars for what was left. IK parked its entire doomstack in a single province in the 'Cumania' kingdom region but refused to cross GH territory to some northern provinces to get the warscore high enough to force a peace deal.
This actually became beneficial for the IK since they had enough troops left to beat the GH in two border wars before they both converted to Orthodox.

Interestingly enough it was also the first game I've had where the AI completely wiped out every non-catholic faith. Cath/Orth had a similar amount of provinces while only 3 provinces in Egypt were left unconverted (since they were conquered by Orth IK near the end).

The Aztecs were even worse, they don't seem capable of using their stacks effectively. Each game I've seen them they just get slaughtered by the first major power they come across (Like Scotland....) they have doomstacks but they always engage unfavorably and split them up into different regions.

This isn't even as bad as it gets since the warscore WILL tick up to 100 eventually if they hold the right province. I've had France and HRE stalemate for like 50 years because they kept altering move paths based on each other and never moved either army despite HRE outnumbering France 3-1. It was eventually broken because Flanders declared an independence war so the French army had to move from the area (and got stomped at last).

Love the game, hate the bugs.

I have noticed weird things with hoards but not that. I have noticed that there is a huge gaping problem with the hoards AI that makes them super easy to beat (from a relative point of view. ) I was haven't had to fight the Ilkhanate yet but I did have to fight the GH and so I marched all my men over to perm and waged mighty war with them. thousands of men dying on each side I am have 100000 men I can raise but that is a lot to organize and pull in from all over the world so really I have around 50k now I can a slight upper hand but the war could go on for the next 10 years and by then some other force could invade and it is becomeing way to costly so I have a +22 warscore so I go and I offer a white peace, the hoard accepts and then dissapears from the map. I look into this because they have 40k troops left and the reason for this was their initial invasion CB was for perm, so by ending in a white peace it was essentially like I beat them because they are landless and not fighting anyone else because the AI isn't trying to invade any other kingdom.

I had the exact same thing once. Isn't all that bad as you get a +25 bonus with all vassals as long as the war goes on.
I waited pretty long - like 50 years - and then finally, miraculously managed to destroy their 140k stack with my remaining 130k men. I've got no idea how that was even possibly ^^
