So, the 13th century rolled in, and the Sunset Invasion triggered. However, all that happened is that the 200-odd thousand Aztec troops disembarked in Cornwall and Bordeaux, and just stood there not hostile to anyone (gray army names in tooltip). A hundred years later, they're all still standing there unmoving.

I got all the usual events (Aztecs bring potatoes, chocolate, diseases, Aztecs bring our diseases back to their homes, Aztecs getting in conflict with Incas and their thundersticks, all that jazz). But no Aztec-related hostilities in the old world ever happened.

Now, it could be because I have Europe and half of Middle East united into one big blobby Slavic Union, and Aztecs did not feel like fighting my over 300k troops, but it's still a disappointment.

Another way of looking at it is free potatoes and chocolate. So... yay?

I suspect this is a diplomatic distance issue. I remember having the Aztecs stand around and do nothing in normal games of mine, but in the one game in which I turned off diplomatic distance they invaded just fine.

The suspected problem is that because they start without an established capital, the game considers them to be too far away from everyone to make any diplomatic actions ... including declare war.

That's probably not it, because diplomatic choices are not grayed out. I can e.g. attempt to arrange a marriage (even though he won't accept). Heck, I was even able to assassinate two or three of their rules in a row (they had a spymaster with ~70% plot power and susceptible to bribery). Maybe that's what broke the event chain.

Edit: Also, I always play with diplomatic distance limit enabled, and I always had Aztec invasion fire properly before.

It didn't work for me too. They even appear on ledger, but as I have owned 95% of the places they land in, maybe they were too scared to attack me?

I've had this happen in a few recent Kiev games; I'd barely expanded, and Western Europe and Morocco were still full of Catholics and Sunnis, so it certainly wasn't because they didn't have any non-pagans to attack, even if that is a thing.
I also had some Aztecs who attacked like they were supposed to in some of my other Kiev attempts, and there wasn't any big difference between the games where they attacked and the ones where they just sat there.

I think it's just a new bug.
