By the way we have an Armée de terre, an Armée de l'air, and a Marine nationale, and no special names like Regina Marina.

These are just what you could translate in english by "ground army" "airforce" and "navy".

Yeah it sounds weird when put alongside with Kriegsmarine and Regina Marina which sounds pretty cool for sure. Anyway considering the french navy was never a big priority for the country before Richelieu, and even after that there was still a higher priority for ground forces, it's not strange there's no epic name for our navy. Also, keep in mind Kriegsmarine just mean war navy, well I could use exactly the same word in french "La marine de guerre" or "La marine militaire" but these are not really used.

As a french, i can assure you foxes that even If a Nationalist French party (let say "fascists") would have rised, and take the power :

1st They would never ever befriend with Germans as German people were still considered as barbarian (remembrer belgium WW1 neverforget) and a rival.
2nd Petain would probably reign and France will keep that Entente with Great Britain because people AND Petain and General Staff establishment had really tight links with UK since WW1 (BroWW1winners4EVERvsBadBoys) with this union ensure the préservation of the Empire.
3rd An imperialist nationnalist France would certainly transform into an Empire regime (we were still THAT at this time) again (remember N)... and France would certainly befriend with Italy that France helped to unify and allied into the Entente with UK against Germany. Their was huge rivality beetween Germany and Italy before the war.
4th France and Allies would never let the Germans retake the Rurh BUT dialogue would probaly be possible -like to end Versaille by diplomatic solutions as both would share ideological idea-
5th Tension would certainly rise beetween France and USA with maybe USA falling into anti-impérialism that Germany Claims ans a slow but sure process from england to rebalance the Wolrd power

Once tried it in a HOI3 game as bulgaria, used cheats to get France into axis and they didn't seem to do much, cause they have like 0 manpower :/
Germans had trouble with the russians, but beated them in the end, not much else happened as AI sucks at sea lion.
If anything, it may have helped the british, since they didn't send anyone into france.

The French Navy was actually pretty solid at the start of the war - maybe a dash better than Italy's and clearly better than Germany's, u-boats aside. There was a reason the Brits shelled them at Mers-al Kabir.

I'm not so sure "France would certainly befriend with Italy".
France and Italy we butting heads and close to comming to blows at the start of this timeline. France was pissed at Italy for going to war vs Ethiopia, so much so that they pushed for sanctions.

I did get France in the Comintern once as the Soviet's. They held off Germany for a little while before losing.
