Would it be possible in the editor to divide the USA into two countries (USA=pro-democracy and CSA=pro-fascist)? I think that would be a really interesting twist on the "what ifs" of history. If the South did win the Civil War, and if they leaned toward the Axis, the western hemisphere could be a new battlefield for WW2. I think it would really be an interesting scenario, but can it be done, or is the USA hard-coded as one country? :confused:

You can't divide a country in two that simple. The CSA you propose would be an independant country in game, and would thus need a new tag... The easiest way to add a new country is still manually editing it in (but that's me, you can also use the editor).There are a number of free tags that editors can use, ranged from U00 to U19. The procedure is quite the same as for EU2.

1) Dive into text.csv and go to the line where U00 (for example) is defined. Change U00;unknown to U00;CSA.

2) Go into the USA scenario definition file (usa.inc) in the Scenario/36 (if you want to play CSA in 1936). Open province.csv simultenously. Then check which provinces CSA would own. Delete the corresponding numbers (to check those numbers use province.csv) from the usa.inc file BOTH under ownedprovinces and controlledprovinces

3) Create a new country definition file for your fresh country, name it u00.inc. For an example of how a .inc file should look, you can copy the content of the usa.inc file into the new file and edit from there. In the controlled & owned provinces lines, add the numbers of the provinces CSA should own

4) If desired, you can add flags, leaders, ministers, etc etc as well. Numbers 1 --> 3 are essential though. The rest is looks :)

There has always been a scenario depot for EU 1 & 2 on the Paraodox homepage. I think there'll be one for HoI as well. If not, you can be sure there will be some good usermade homepages that'll upload the goods :D

It depends on how you make it. I haven't got the game yet, so I assume that it works the same way as in EU2. There each scenario consisted of an scenario definition file (.eug), a main scenario data file and a directory with the data files for the separate countries. So you copy the USA country file, make a CSA country file and copy the 2 main data files for the scenario and edit them. You can ofcourse use the old country files for the rest in both the old and new scenario.

C.N. is correct... The system is entirely the same as in EU2. Of course the parameters are a little different, with all the new resources and such, OOB's,..... But the system is the same

I would be more than happy to lend assistance, I am a HOI fanatic, a student of WWII and also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and League of the South. I am currently reading Blood and Iron but have read all harry turtledove's previous "Southern" books.

19th century mod

What about a mod based on the 19th Century w/c is arguably the most ignored century in modern wargaming history. It would probably start with the French Revolution and end with the Roaring Twenties but would have the major event such as the ACW, Crimea, the Imperialist 'Great Game' etc.

Just some thoughts,

I like the 19th century and wish there was a decent imperialism game but I don’t see how HOI could handle this time period. HOI is more of we all fight until there a winner it really cannot handle long periods of peace. You may be able to simulate colonial warfare like Italy vs. Ethiopia does in the regular game but within 5 years all of Europe would be in a brutal war that would only end with the utter destruction of several nations.

Then again if you can get Europe to conquer the world and not each other, get them to make peace more obtain and give the appropriate tech then it just might work but I think the best bet is doing a 19th century mod is on EU2 and not HOI.

You could argue that the CSA would be Allied and the USA Axis.

Since the likely alliances that would occur after a successful "victory" of the CSA in the civil war would likely have been CSA allied with France/England and the USA-allied with Germany.

Its more like neither would be allied with Europe, both would fear one another but fascism would never rise in the CSA totalitarianism and all its rigid government control would never fly in a nation that feared and fought against a powerful federal government.

There's a wonderful mod for EU2 called The Age of Nationalism that covers 1820-1914. I play it more than I do the regular game. I just wish the North American provinces were drawn the way they are in HoI.
