Thought we needed a thread for awesome experiences in the game, which we don't have the time to write proper AARs for.
I had an EPIC experience last week in my Alexiad Byz game. In the 1200s, after conquering half of the middle east and consolidating, I got the challenge of a vassal conquering two kingdoms while I was not looking(I had to hand out some kingdoms a long time back because of the need for less vassals to please). So I've got this dude governing Armenia + Syria. My emperor dies and a new dude who should never have inherited takes over. He is the fourth son, the rest all dying in suspious accidents...
The dual king takes the chance to support a duke in Mesopotamia's wish to become independent(silly, as the Ilkhanate would be sure to take him out ASAP). Since he is so powerful, the ultimatum comes fast. So suddenly I'm at war with a third of the Empire. But I am sure to be able to beat him, I have more than twice his numbers. Slowly I'm taking him out, but it's not easy, as he kills my two main armies which were trapped within his domains.
Then the OTHER third of the Empire decides my uncle should be Emperor instead of me...! The first war is at 88% win for me, but now I'm hard pressed and we are at a standstill. I now only control Croatia, the Bosphorus and parts of Israel. I have 17k troops left, of a total of 188k before the Great Rebellion. At the same time my remaining vassals are plotting to lower crown authority and place my uncle at the helm of the kingdom of Greece too. I HAD to take out the dual king, he was a great threat being so powerful. At this point a third rebellion took place, demanding me to step down from the kingdom of Greece. I was left with only the Bosphorius. I was royally screwed. So, at 80something%, I white peaced the dual king, only losing one dukedom to the Ilkhanate.
This gave me 60k extra troops, which unfortunately turned out to be too little against almost twice the force belonging to the rebels. I was at the end of the road. All merchenaries was in my employ, but killed. My forces was pressed back. I was about to lose it all. But I had a lot of money. I sent my spy master to the court of my uncle and lo and behold! I had a 95% chance of killing him and 5% chance of being discovered. First attempt was unsucessful, the second worked! At one big swoop, the Great Rebellion was over! The Empire was secure! The next few months, all the rebelling dukes who I had a valid claim on imprisoning, was imprisoned. Three escaped, but was soon overrun.
I now had the dual king to deal with. Him getting a white peace, I had no valid grounds for taking him on. I built up 120k retinues and 20k merchenaries was kept. I still earned money, I was that rich. Half the Empire was in chains. The rest loved me. So I took a chance. I sent my marshall to the court of the dual king. I imprisoned him at 76% chance, he was locked in. Got a -40 relations with all because I did so without a valid reason. I stripped him of Armenia. Another -40 relations. Half the Empire liked me, the other half, mostly the weak, disliked me. I was DA MAN. I ruled surpeme.
IT. WAS. AWESOME.
I almost lost it all.:ninja:
But I prevailed.
