Hihi just wanted to drop by and say thank you for the awesome game guys
Awesome level of detail in everything, great work by design artists, so much athosphere - and very nice strategic and tactical game
This beats any of the Civilizations and whatnot for me

Didn't buy any additional DLC (ways too expensive, Paradox greed knows no bounds hehe) but the game doesn't really need any of them, I am having a blast as it is
Cheers guys!

You can wait for some sales, but I can tell so far they are totally worth it.

Ah I surely will!

But I don't understand why so much demands/bad vibe from players I am seeing on the front page even here.
The game is awesome. Level of design detail is insane. If you tune your PC right with proper care and drivers - the performance is great on my 5 year old potato system.

And the strategic component is very cool, I am spending like 10-15min every turn just overseeing my domain what to do where, building and planning. None of the Civ games offered this to me. Civ6 doesn't count because it's a mobile game :))))

People like to complain, but I wouldn't say it's that negative. While some people seem to be a little bit too negative and pushy, I think Triumph has a regular and loyal fanbase so people simply want to make the game even better, as such they (mostly) do it out of concern. While from a singleplayer point of view the game is, as far as I'm concerned, a masterpiece (Planetfall is singlehandedly my GoTY of 2019) it still has some issues, mainly concerning multiplayer. The main points are some multiplayer connection issues which T-Rex patch introduced, AI lacking for more advanced players and as always some balancing (a process that is always ongoing as players find new strategies) - but this is nothing such a responsive dev team as Triumph can't handle imho. They already did some substantial tweaking and balancing work and more is still to come. Many of those good changes come from player feedback so as long as they keep it civil, I think it is good for the game.

Yes definitely GOTY 2019-2020 for me too!
I bought it a while ago but seeing the stream of patches put it on shelf until now.
So probably I am having much smoother experience now than many players on release xD

I am not playing multi (no idea how to play with insanely long time it takes my turns to process, nobody has patience for that), but singleplayer AI could surely use some help in early game. Basically, by the time AI has 2 colonies with 4 pops, I have 6 colonies with 8 pops.
I am on Very Hard atm, will see if anything changes on Extreme.

This is definitely one of my favorite games, and my favorite Age of Wonders game. I really love the lore, the factions, the modding of units so they can be useful later on, even tier 1 units.

Please understand OP, that the DLC structure in this game is nothing like Paradox's other games. Triumph's DLC is always worth it and adds a significant amount of content and gameplay to the game. They also don't spam DLC. Much like Creative Assembly and Total War, the DLC in this game is very much so worth it, and you actually want to get more of it.

The DLC pricing is in line with similar strategy titles, and cheaper than some. As mentioned above, it's added content and doesn't feel like something stripped from the main game. DLC comparison here, individual DLC titles without season pass and price in USD:

Endless Legend -- $13
Endless Space 2 -- $13
AOW Planetfall -- $15
TW Warhammer 2 -- $19 (full faction)
Stellaris -- $20
Battletech -- $20
Civ VI -- $30-$40

Unless Triumph surprises us, there are only three DLC planned for the game. The total investment will be much less for Planetfall than series like Total War or Endless games that have more DLC releases.

I sure hope Triumph surprises us and gives us more content this time around. I would love to see more races and secret techs.

Man it might be, but paying 10-15$ per DLC is just too much on my wallet.
Knowing how much DLC Paradox usually spams, I just stopped bothering with them.

Is there one that's like, completely necessary or one that most people recommend? I just picked this up as well and also loving it. I just know in a lot of 4X games the DLC usually adds something massive and substantial

There is literally only one dlc at the moment - Revelations. Two more expansions are on the way. Alternatively there is a Season Pass that covers all three. I say - totally worth it, I would buy them all (which I did actually) but it's up to your preferences. You can read about the first DLC here, the second one (which will be released on May 26th) here and the short overview of the third (and the Season Pass in general) here. If you're not sure about the price, I would say wait for "Invasions" release date, because usually when a new expansion is released, services like Steam usually put a discount on previously released stuff.

I would call the first DLC -- Revelations -- substantial but not massive. It adds a new Secret Tech but not an entirely new player faction, which is coming in the next DLC. Revelations adds a few new "wildlife" units and a new type of quasi-dungeon to explore on the map, as well as some interesting variants of standard units and weapons with the Heritor secret tech. It fills out the game a bit and it's well worth having, but it's not a huge expansion.

If you're still getting your feet wet with the game mechanics, you could wait a bit and pick it up later. The upcoming Invasions DLC will probably mix things up more, with world events and a new late-game crisis in addition to the new player faction.

The changes might not be as big as new faction, but if I remember correctly, "Anomalous sites" are a feature of this dlc, and they are huge. I mean they offer around 30+ "miniquests" (there are variants depending on the faction/tech you play) that are fun to play both form a lore and gameplay standpoint (unique battles and mods, perks, even units as rewards) and overall add much as far game sustainability goes...

Not to mention it adds the unique "Forgotten" NPC faction with my absolute fav unit - Eater of the Dead (see my avatar for reference :p).

I'd advise picking up the base game and seeing if you like the core gameplay, then wait to see if Revelations goes on sale with the new DLC release. Not to say that the DLC is bad or unfairly priced, but at this point it's not long to wait and I never advise people to spent too much on a game they've not tried.

Right, that was the "quasi-dungeon" addition I mentioned. I probably could have expanded on that more, because it's a great addition to the game. Also a good way to slow down player steamrolling, because it ties up your best army for a while.

Yeah no worries. I simply reminded myself that this cool feature was indeed added in Revelations. Btw if I understood correctly there will be more Anomalous sites in Invasions. This is pretty awkward as I believe Shakarn should be "compatible" with existing ones...

I think the new Shakarn faction might be compatible with existing Anomalous sites and any new sites added in the Invasions DLC, because they're "outsiders," and wouldn't be represented in the Anomalous site lore and special units.

Now, if they brought their own Anomalous sites, that could be really interesting. But I'm not sure how that would fit into the Invasion lore.
