I notice as I am giving newly acquired territory to a client state that I can only give adjacent territories. I think the restriction should be based to coring distance rather than adjacency.

For example, I just took a few key territories around the Baltic. They are not all adjacent, but they are all coastal, and easily within coring distance. I should be able to award all of these to one client state. This client state would be a naval power in the region, with a trade focused economy, and that should work.

Thoughts?

It's very strange if you can't. Don't client states work the same as every other nation?

Just make sure the state has actually cored all its land, that could potentially cause issues with coring distance.

Pretty sure you can give them provinces, like any other subject, through the vassal tab - grant province?

Your client state only shows up on adjacent provinces when using the separate 'grant province to client state' button on the province overview. This has the extra benefit of allowing you to grant provinces beyond their overextension limit.

Pretty confusing though indeed. Some horrendous UI choices.

You can give existing client states footholds in an area by transferring occupation to them. It's a little annoying that you can only grant adjacent provinces but has never struck me as silly. Just needs a little planning.

Ok, follow up: It seems as if what territory can be granted from the "subjects" tab of the "country view" is not the same as is available to the "assign province to client state" button on the province view. You'd think these would be the same, as they are just 2 different buttons that achieve the same purpose. My OP was about the button on the province view. If the province is not directly adjacent to an existing client state and you click that button it goes directly to creating a new client state, even if you can assign it to an existing client state through the subjects tab. It's weird. So if a mod wants to go ahead and punt this over to the suggestions forum, this is now a suggestion to standardize those two functions to avoid confusion.
