Awakened Empire vs Crisis - why are they "pathetic" compared to me?

I'm in a federation with an awakened empire while the unbidden are flowing into the galaxy and, like, they have no ships. I'm far and away the strongest member of my federation at the moment even though I only just got to Titans and my total fleet power is just over 100K. I'm literally sat defending *their* starbases. Is this just another example of the AI not being able to build ships?

Awakened Empires will fall to decadence, beginning about 20 years after they awaken. Are you sure that this isn't happening?

If you are talking about the awakened empire: they sometimes suicide their fleets against the crisis early on, but they should get more fleets by events. If it is a fallen empire it never gets new fleets.

It's the "peacekeepers" empire that's awakened. I don't know if they have fallen to decadence but I guess there's been enough time, but surely since they woke up to unite the galaxy against the Unbidden they should at least wait until the crisis is over to do that?

They should have some decent fleets unless they lost them against the crisis. Might be some new bug introduced by 2.2 or the beta though.

AE economy expansion has been bugged for some time now I think. The last time I saw an AE upgrade its planets was before 2.0.
If there is no unclaimed territory to claim they usually waste time building multiple gateways inside their tiny original territory.
If they fight wars they always go for vassalization and never seem to conquer any planets on top of that unlike before 2.0. The xenophile and materialists AEs seem to suck the most because they get no relevant income from vassals. Having vassals just speeds decadenc up for them.
Edit: I have not seen the xenophile FE conquer planets since 1.8 I think.

Quite the opposite - the Fallen Empires get new fleets through event, if they have less than a certain amount. Awakened Empires have to actually build their ships.

I think the problem lies in the fact that FE ships are incredibly expensive in terms of alloys and they require Dark Matter (which FEs actually get as their base income, even, 2 per month) for their components. It's entirely possible that the Awakened Empire just lost its fleet to the crisis (as they tend to do) and can't afford to build a new fleet. One of their battlecruisers actually costs more than 6 times their monthly alloys, I think.
