First i just have to say i absolutely love this game. Wonderful for a old gamer who grew up with Warlords 1/2, fantasy general, civ 1-5 and similar games.

Noiw after some nights beating the game several times on small maps i decided to have a go on a large map.

Now i'm late game with lots of upgraded units and have the other mages locked down or defeated.

Then i get all the points in with a god and now the opposite god sends a avatar to my capital.
And there is my problem. This avatar is impossible to kill with his 1000hp. And he do a ton of damage.
I'm starting to retreat my powerful units from the front but he just smashes them.

Now he almost destroyed my capital and i figured out i could freeze him to imobilize. But he still counter attack so flying melee is no good.
So i'm builing catapults and archers to try to get him down but it's going to take forever.

Any tips?

Ill upload my savegame if anyone wan't to take a look att it.

Wait, I don't see the problem. You claim the avatar is "impossible to kill", but you just explained a strategy on how to kill it in what seems reasonable, albeit time-consuming.

I finished a large game via killing an avatar just recently. I was an Agrela fanboy, so I got to fight the Avatar of Krypta. She had a thousand hit points and regenerated 50 per round, and she was immune to banes so stunlocking her wasn't an option. She also hit for 75 death damage and 25 spirit damage.

The actual fighting was done with two gold dragons, two Wolves of Helia, two Champions of Grim-gog, a Priestess of Agrela, a Paladin of Death, a Stubborn Knight that I had gotten emotionally attached to, a Greater Fire Elemental, and an Elder Vampire, because somebody at the party needs to have a top hat to bring a little class. The lesson I learned was that people from all species, factions, and religions can come together and build a better world by dogpiling on Evil Girl Jesus until she's a greasy stain on the ground. I didn't lose any units and killed her in about six turns.

Thats an huge army D:.
I killed and avatar of helia with 2 overbuffed court werewolves tanking it and 3 overbuffed adepts of lunord doing hit and run to them heal xD. I had to waste all my t1 and t2 range units to get the avatar to 900 so it doesnt 1 shot my adepts >.> but after that it was really easy.

Just beat an Avatar myself (druid guy, opposite of Dauros) a few minutes ago (which also happened to be my first game outside the demo I started).

Had three Paladins of Dauros, three magisters, one Priestess of Agriea (sp), a gold dragon and a ridiculously buffed, lvl 9 black minotaur. Most of the time was spent teleporting everyone in, but he wasn't too much of an issue. Resistances on everyone were ridiculoulsy high, and I had regeneration on most of them as well as vampiric drain, so no one was getting hurt, and most of these were hardened veterans which conquered all the other worlds. Was able to whittle the avatar down quite rapidly, but by that point in the game, I could have had my pick as to which victory to go for (aside from Unity which never showed up).

I could imagine this being a substantially harder fight if it were done far earlier.
