Are you playing with 1.2.1? because autosave frequency has been drastically reduced there.

An interval save time for Ironman is redundant for nearly any time interval.
The game already autosaves when you take an action and it autosaves when you quit. I've yet to play an Ironman game where it doesn't already save more than once a month due to diplomatic actions.

I have the fastest internet connection available in my area yet it is still too slow for cloud saves without delays in most games. When I lived in a different area of the world with some of the fastest internet available anywhere cloud saves were not an issue at all on the same computer. My connection was so fast there with extremely low latency that I often gained an unfair advantage in multiplayer games.

Where I live now I am usually in the middle to bottom for connection quality when playing with others. Nothing to be done about it. I tried switching to the other broadband ISP in my area and did detailed comparison of connection bandwidth, latency, packet loss, and other metrics but found both to be about equal once the connection hopped out of the local area to the nearest major hub. Tested destinations all over the world and the results were close for each ISP.

Cloud features performance appears to be highly dependent on a high quality connection, not just claimed max bandwidth. I have turned cloud saves off for most games so I won't be using ironmode at all. However, I don't cheat with saves in games. The only reason I might use a save to reset progress is to try to avoid a game breaking bug or crash.

well now the game save only like 1 time every month, not even at each fight or event, i just don't see what ppl problem, you can't call anymore ironman if you save even lesser.

my save take at most 0,5 sec on speed 3+, and at 2. i don't even notice this.

This means "drastically reduced" ? :D That I can delay autosave about couple of days?

I guess im still missing something...

Before : auto saving, was every 1 at month, every new fight, every end fight, every event and when your king die.

Now : its only 1month and few, and not auto save at start & end fight, not save when your king die, so about 75% less auto save so personnaly i would call this drastically reduced !

But i understand when some have slow auto save unlike my fast auto save this can be frustrating.

I used to have serious issues with this but 1.2 improved it a lot. Fewer saves, that is, not every month, before every battle, siege etc. But also the saves seem to be "smoother" in a way, I guess they did something to make them more performance-friendly :)

The autosaves and other saves go to your local disk, not immediately to the cloud. They only sync up to the cloud when you exit the game - you can see that in your Steam client. So your internet connection speed is irrelevant, sorry.

I was speaking of cloud saves in general with games I have played. To be clear, I do not have experience using it with EU IV so can't speak to that specific case. With other games it did access the cloud during the games and caused long delays - sometimes over a minute long. Disabling cloud saves immediately and permanently eliminated such delays.

I don't like how the devs seem to be assuming people who don't like monthly auto saves all want to cheat or something.

I don't think that's been implied at all.

I don't get why people lack the discipline to not cheat in the first place. When I read here that people want this mode so they don't cheat, well the fault isn't in the game, it's in the player.

It's great for multiplayer and this sort of thing, but for a single player game, it seems odd that people are getting angry about the game and not angry at themselves for lacking discipline in the first place. I just don't get it.

My discipline is just fine. Which is why constant autosaving in ironman is obnoxious to me.

I'd just like a mode that saves only when I exit the game, and periodically according to whatever settings are in the options, just in case the power goes out or something. It's nice and clean to only have a single save for every country I'm playing.

That being said, the saving in 1.2 is quite a bit less, so while it's not exactly what I want, it certainly is a big improvement over what was there at release.

Bumping this thread.

Reason - this is UNPLAYABLE guys. I dont know whether it's because of an upcoming Art of War update, or whatever, but after 20 mins of Ironman, i just get the game crashed to desktop, crashing Steam along with it. Is there ANYTHING we can do to at least minimize this rather UNPLAYABLE EXPERIENCE? At least crashing it every 1 hour, if it's not possible to play without them? 1st time I try Najdi WC, and this is how I will be stopped? By game crashes every 20 mins?
