Disable the console and disable choosing another nation for your save. Done. That's the dream Ironman mode. Leave the saving for our arbitrarily chosen date.

Because you tied achievements to Ironman mode, forcing people that want to experience all the features of the game to deal with a buggy and lagtastical experience.
Well people you know there is something called Cheat Engine.... So bisically if you want to cheat you can do it without any problem Ironman game or not! But I'm absolutely agree that this permanent autosaving is just horrible! It's making me crasy! And I have a good computer i72600k @4ghz GTX 560 TI 8gb Ram Crucial sdd 120 gb. Win7 64bit. So please can somebody explaine me, is that autosaving here to prevent cheating? Because if it is, it's a fail! I think disabling the console should be enough to get achievmenrs.
Well no not really.
You disable the console and choosing another nation, and it stops direct cheating or switching via that method.
Still leaves plenty of ways though.
The saving on decision is good, stops you from making a decision then after decide to get out of the game without saving, and reload prior to the decision.
Ohh no my heir died, NOPE RELOAD
Ohh a comet, NOPE RELOAD
The personal union failed because of .... NOPE RELOAD
the auto save is also needed, otherwise it makes the above useless as well.
You could load save, fight a war for 3 years that at the end goes bad (well I will just unplug the internet and reset the computer)
Load from my last decision which is the start of the war.
If you choose when to save, when to reload. You become able to be completely unaffected by random decisions, unable to lose wars, and basically unbeatable.
Not sure how to win that war against a large coalition
Just reload it 72 times till you finally manage to kill them all....
The only way Ironman works is if it autosaves, and saves with decisions.
All the people playing on really old PC's that can not handle it should either
- Upgrade
or
- Not play Ironman
Making the changes to it, just makes it way too easy to bypass and as such, not Ironman.
This will not change, as else it wont be ironman.
Yes, the save-game is growing continuously. In the early years its about 10MB and that's fine, turning point for me comes around 20-25MB (1700-1750). Then the gameplay is massivly slown down until it gets nearly unplayable. People telling us to buy a new PC have obviously no clue what they talk about.
I've also noticed large variations in save times between play sessions. One time it took seven or eight seconds to save, which was so unbearable during war time I simply quit, but the next time I played it was only a second or two.
Well no not really.

I have a 3-year-old rig, and I hardly notice the autosaves. I suppose it does help that I have a wired internet connection, not wireless.
I like the monthly saves. If they were yearly, say, wouldn't that tempt some people to kill the game after a bad turn of events, and then revert to a 6-month old save? The point of Ironman is to remove such temptations.
