There is a certain amount of control that you want to have over your progeny - this is the era of marrying off princesses as political bargaining chips - sending 15 year old girls to marry 70 year old men in exchange for an alliance. However, there is a limit to how much control you want over that. Playing a fecund ruler you may end up with scores of grandchildren, and, if you live long enough, great grandchildren. I do not want to manually find mates for each of them and I certainly don't want hundreds of alliances to make it necessary. A simple solution is to allow what we've seen in CK2 where courtiers will come to you asking for your blessing with a marriage. I would definitely want to see such a system develop because, otherwise, I invariably start inbreeding the hell out of my family just so that they can reproduce.
I'm not sure of the timing in history, but perhaps there can be an event like you see in Bridgerton where single nobles court one another - or otherwise let them stem from feasts and other such events. Perhaps even allowing us to marry them off without forming an alliance. Any help would be appreciated.
