Auto-promotion

So, whats the official word on auto-promote?

I don't think it works. I did not promote anyone until I had to (war - but just air commanders) and not a single general changed rank.

I've not promoted any land commanders yet, and I've sacrificed my entire submarine fleet so I could have a couple of level 5 admirals...

For some reason navy and air commanders dont get promoted when assigned to units but auto-promotion does work atleast to my experience. Just dont assign leaders until just before war. Perhaps only complaint is that my best land commanders when playing Germany doesnt seem to get promoted even by accident.

I had no problem with my German commanders. They didn't get auto-promoted, but I would use Bloomberg or Von Rundstedt with an HQ and about 20 major generals in as many attacks as possible. We had a couple of 3 week battles during the invasion of France that made several careers. Most of my Ofensive Generals and Lt. Generals were level 5 & 6 before the invasion of USSR.
