i love to play england and love to build a massive fleet.
to protect my island i usually build 5 fleets (5 warships, 25 trade ships) and let them protect trade in the channel... for money and for protection.
during war an enemy fleet finds one of my fleet and attacks it... during the battel automaticly 1 or 2 of the other fleets arrive and help + i can send in my warships-stack in.
i'm safe and i have no fog of war around gb. that is my wodden shild.

with the new patch i cant do that. the fleets auto-merge... if i want one fleet in one particular trade-node i can merge them manualy. please let me deside and use my own brain. that new feature is a now-go for me. i will stop playing the game until that is fixed. but i hope that will happen soon.

and please. generally. try to be more relaxed during patching. you are flip-flopping since the beginning.

players say its to easy to get unions. you make it impossible in the patch.
players use vasall-feeding. you make it harder
players say rebellions are to weak. you make them stronger in the patch.... with the result that england, france, spain break during the first 50 years.
players get to know the game and find ways to do wc. you make it impossible in the next patch.
players complain. vasall-feeding and wc is back on track
players find ways to unite hre in 100 years... you make it impossible.

please try to be consistant. i love the game, but it is hard some times. i never finished one single game to 1821 because with every new patch i started over...
and make an offline-ironman!

thx for the good work! (i tried to play civ beyond earth and hoped for an alpha centauri 2 and realised what a great company you still are)

is it that hard to use "patrol" command? have 1 trade fleet with your 5 heavys and let 4x 7 heavys patrol, problem solved....

Yeah, auto merge is incredibly convenient so you don't have to manually find and stop your trade fleet to add new ships to it, just a pain when you have to constantly be doing that. I don't really see the value in having more than one trade fleet in a single node even as england anyway, sure you get no fog of war around england, but so what? AI can't land a decent sized army to save it's life, anything they could land you would beat easily, but they'll never land anything because even if you notice later your massive super powered navy will wipe them fast, or your massive trade fleet on trade mission will run into it as they're offloading and beat it before your heavys even get there.

exactly why I love it less micromanagement.

I've seen people somewhere call it dumbing down a mechanic. I fail to see how micro managing, stopping your fleet, attaching new ships to it, etc etc, is in anyway a strategic move at all. Auto merge and Upgrade ships for cost were both very much needed and took probably the most tedious job with no actual affect on strategy or skill out of the game without removing any strategy. Just 2 incredibly boring parts of the game streamlined to be less painfully annoying.

Auto merge and upgrade, sorely needed, very much welcomed.

you can, you can save your ironman on either local or cloud tab when you start up the game.

as for the rest: I'm pretty sure there have been successful WCs (by the rules of the achievement) on every patch version to date. Some were just easier than others.

That's not really the argument though. The people that complain aren't doing that because they enjoyed combining all their trade fleets in a node, they're complaining because they don't want to combine all their trade fleets in a node. There could just be a checkbox on a fleet for auto-merging (on by default), so you could still send multiple trade fleets to the same node if you wanted to. Personally I don't see the point of that, but I wouldn't mind it being an option.
