What I do not understand is that why while being able to brutally slaughter trillions based on their race, factions that openly admit to sabotage the government suffer no legal consequences whatsoever. The most harsh thing you can do is to supress them that will (probably) limit their development, but nothing more. While not final numbers are not final, I'd rather discuss the very concept itself than numbers. Whilist I do believe that cheap ways to get rid of rival points wouldn't benefit gameplay and would make no sense in egalitarian societies, I just can't understand why in a large Monarchy where your brains are blown out by the nearest soldier if you refuse to kiss your rulers digestive tract exit every afternoon some 10 pacifist pops can organise a full Wolfenstein-styled RESISTANCE and Co.

So, I had the following idea. While most empires that "appreciate the value of the individual" should indeed work in the way they currently do, Authoritarian empires should be able to declare certain factions illegal, which in essence is a more extreme form of supression. Lore-wise instead of just blocking a faction from any active political posts, we instead openly declare this faction do be dregs/terrorists and send everyone remotely (or not) related to that faction to prisons and firing squads. This in term will massively "encourage" pops to leave the faction, effectively destroying it over time. There are several things to be noted, however.

If the attraction to this faction is two high, it may find new recruits among other pops, thus being a lot harder to get rid of.

The faction you are "purging" has zero happiness and generates massive unrest respectively, creating all kinds of 'mischief'. If the faction is huge and powerful, there may even be a civil war with 70% of pops NOT supporting you.

You are killing off only the faction members, not pops themselves, nor their ethics. The very goal of this is to get rid of troublesome faction itself, not its ethics.

Egalitarian Nations will not appreciate you burning people in gas chambers because the later don't like ham. If you know what I mean.

Balance wise you would just start exterminating factions you didnt like as soon as they pop up which would mean they would never get strong and just break the faction system entirely.

On my very first game as a collectivist a faction of three individualist pops formed. I searched the listed planets for their members and individually purged them.
But sadly individual purging will not be supported after the next patch, if I remember correctly.

Well, you could do the same with supression.
Yeah, but it wont kill the faction, your idea would effectively mean that Authoritarian states would have no negative factions as they'd be decimated.
A key issue with this is that in an Authoritarian state where people know they'll be killed by being a part of a dissident group they just go 'underground' and they become more hardline and militarist.
