Yep, this would be ideal. Playing as Austria atm, most of the Hapsburg Empire is populated by Germans, and its only 1880. However, it's also the case that loads of my non-Germans have gone walkies - I have large Czech populations in Croatia, loads of Slovaks in Tirol and a big bunch of Hungarians in Lombardia. Also, the Polish seem to have died out in EuropeThe main problem is too much assimilation in the game. There was almost no assimilation irl in the Austrian Empire or the Ottoman Empire and the game doesn't take that into account. There needs to be a nationalism modifier that lowers chances of assimilation hugely if pops live in a home province of their home country(Croatians in Croatia, Serbs in Slovenia, Bosnians in Bosnia etc.).
I wonder if plurality could have a effect upon this. The other problem is that the chance of demotion is too high. That's why you see Austria shooting up in industry after a war because unemployed farmers/laborers demoted to craftsmen in occupied provinces. Social mobility wasn't that high in Austria at the time. If you were a farmer(aka serf) you couldn't just get up and move to a city or town and get a factory job. There were political forces keeping you from leaving the countryside and forces keeping you out of the cities. You pretty much had to deal with what you were born into.
lolaustria wasnt ever an industrial powerhouse in any period there armies were always seen as backward n behind by the western powers theres no way they should be able to compete with them ...... if anything holland was seen as a much bigger player at the time....... austria should be struggling to get in the top 8 never mind second in most games........ what wars did they win in the period none absoulutly none........ the ottomans prussia n italy should all be bulling austria in this period..... germany on the otherhand became an industrial powerhouse.... but only near end game
