I am pretty new to Vicky II, and have been playing prussia in AHD for a while now. It seems like every time I play, Austria's industry completely steamrolls mine by the mid 1840's. Each time I try to fight them, I get beaten back. What can I do to to stay ahead?
He's right though, Austria gets insane amounts of industry relative to what happened. Methinks we need an Austria-nerf alongside the French demographic nerf.
Has anybody tag switched to check what's giving them such high scores? I'm playing a game as Austria currently and I have pretty mediocre industry, and I'm struggling to even reach positive population growth...both France, NGF and I have had declining population even though we all discovered Medicine...
I havent seen this yet, i am playing USA and i have atleast the double ammount that Austria has, that will say they have ca 700 industrial score and i am above 1700, they are second place and i am 1st place.
I think it is the foreign investment that makes it, i have boosted my industrial score from 1400 to 1700-1800 with just building railroads in most of the world.
That is a very annoying attitude. You have to look at the factors at work before coming to such a conclusion. During this time period, Austria was in a position to industrialise and reform. The fact that they were caught up in constant wars was what led to industrialisation being so slow, only booming much later.
Depends. If it's South German pops in Vienna working in factories, then that's a good thing.
If, as is probably more likely, Ruthenia and Slovenia are full of hugely profitable factories, then it's a bad thing.
I suspect the latter.

Try things like the 1848 Revolutions, that almost destroyed the Hapsburg Empire and resulted in an independent Hungary were it not for Russian intervention. While putting down revolts in Bohemia and Italy at the same time. That would more or less count as a war IMO.
Won´t argue about the unrest part, see my post - the thing is how to simulate those properly. PDM creates a free Hungary by event, for example, which is mostly fine IF Hungary doesn´t become independent 90% of the time. Nationalism should be more virulent, the question is - how.
I can confirm this, I have played one full AHD game and am halfway through another. Both times Austria achieved the second highest industrial score by the mid-1840s. I find it very odd because Russia, with similar internal issues such as low literacy and various unaccepted minorities, seems to develop along very historical lines in AHD. Austria on the other hand seems immune to its low literacy with factories appearing across the empire, not just in Austria proper. It should be noted their technology, military size, and navy size seem relatively realistic, its only the industrial score that's out of whack.

I agree. I felt that way about Vanilla, and while it's improved slightly (I saw a USA break that included the liberation of the Manhattan Commune and New England), I still don't see it hurting Austria as much as it should. I've seen France eat Austria whole in Vanilla, but I've never seen Austria collapse or even be forced to release a nation.
I think nationalism should be a lot stronger, even if just in Austria (and probably the Ottomans). Releasing all of Eastern Europe as independent states shouldn't be inevitable, but it should be much more likely than it is in my experience.

check your modifier, france has the modifier of pop decline in AHD, that's why you will have a hard time getting positive pop growth. dunno about NGF, but you can check your modifier in the political tab
Stronger as in - not more frequent, but more likely to appear when your country is weak (E.g. bankruptcy, after losing a war), and with more and better soldiers!
