It is obvious my Emperor that Lord CSK is a Bavarian sympathizer, I have iron clad proof....my wifes, brothers, girlfriends, mothers, cousins, uncles, elderly next door neighbour overheard him scheming with Bavarian spies (who were acting like merchantmen) about your highnesses downfall, I charge thee Lord CSK with treason....guards seize him....may his head be off his shoulders by tomorrow morning :D

You have more than one wife and some girlfriends? Isn't that a case of sin? I ask Archbishop Fulcrumvale to speak in this case.

Surely only the Venetians could live such a sinful life. And isn't Lord Deal of darker skin than the average Austrian? I can assure you I am no Bavarian spy. I am born and raised in this land and would die for it. But he? Couldn't it be that he is the spy?

I don't speak against the incorporation of Bavaria. Why should I? I totally agree we should make them part of our glorious Empire. But why waste good German blood when Venetian merchants are robbing our mines? We certainly could do it diplomatically. First we should make sure the merchants in Venice follow our instructions, then we'll see about the Bavarians.

Bah! You, Sir CSK, can never see the true conclusions. Surely you can do a better guess than that. While the people over at Venice truly is sinful, there is no logical explanation to Count Deal's behavior apart from him being a turk!

Master Archbishop, am I not right? Would not the best thing to do be to put Count Deal to trial!

Count Deal was merely reporting what a neighbour of someone whom he knows of in a vague and not very connected way heard Lord CSK discussing. Count Deal's wife is one who hears all the gossip. The fact that she does not like Lord CSK may have allowed her judgment to have become clouded.

The Duke is ill-served by advisers accusing each other of treason.

The Emperor had endeavored to remain quiet, even stately, as his counsel erupted like a gaggle of manic children. He sighed, almost boredly. "My dear count Deal, false accusations shall not endear you to me. Lord CSK could counter-accuse you for spreading lies, though I don't believe you are. And then where would we be?" The man shook his head, his shiney crown wobbling a bit but remaining atop his dome.

"I must concur with my -named- Foreign Policy counsellor. I believe a strike at Bavaria, with vassilisation or outright annexation, is the means to go. Now, do any of you whom have not been named to posts wish to be so? I will need hard military advice (ooc: as I am not quite sure how the military works in this game...), not just grand strategy. The Count has suggested an intrigue and a dolchstosse, a dagger-stab right into the heart of Wurtemburg, presumaby inheriting it from Bavaria once we vassilise them.

"Should I order the raising of troops? How many should I raise, if so? I believe I will attempt an alliance proposal with Baden and Wurtemburg, possibly Helvetia, before I commit to assaulting Bavaria. Let us narrow our view, gentlemen, onto this goal."

Dear Emperor,

If my information is correct, we have a total of 40,000 troops. While this is a mighty force, it's too large. Our treasury isn't large enough to pay all their fees. I say You should fire about half the army.

Baden must be our ally in this holy case! They are our vassal and with an alliance, they will become dependant enough on Austria to ensure that You can take complete charge of their territory at some point.

Honorable assembled personages; we are the greatest men in the archduchy, not a bickering group of 12 year olds. Act like it! Adultery and slander are both sins, and neither is an appropriate topic for a council of advisory to the Archduke.

I am, at heart, a peaceful man. We cannot wantonly invade our neighbors, lest we incur the wrath of both Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund and His Holiness Martin V. The only time I will find myself in favor of violence is when we are fighting to save souls from heresy. Yet, we cannot do that, lest we risk the very existence of this state.

Therefore, I propose gradual expansion of our diplomatic influence. We will work to isolate Hussite Bohemia from outside support and, when this has been accomplished, form a coalition large enough to insure victory. In the meantime, I am deeply opposed to any act of aggression against fellow Christians without a serious and legitimate Cassus Belli. I believe that a policy of diplomatic engagement with the southern german states, rather than one of wonton violence, will be most successful in the long term.

In plain English: Diplovassalize your way across Germany.

General Meynolds begins to stand...

"Sir SunZyl, but disbanding half of our noble army would have the same effect as paying half of the expenses [move army spending to 50% until war]. But yes, I feel that we should not go to war yet. I advocate a peaceful negotiation with them."

*A clamor rises in the room as various others begin to complain*

"Silence! Fulcrumvale, I see your intentions in keeping us out of war, and I agree that they are good ones. However, without war, the sword of the soldier will become blunted and useless. We should send a message that no tolerance of these 'assassination' attempts will be given!"

General Meynolds takes his seat again.

Do we have any legitimate, irrefutable evidence that these assassination attempts stemmed from the mouth of the lord of Bavaria? If not, we are waging war for nothing.

I may be the foreign policy advisor but war is nothing more than an extension of diplomacy is it not? I believe our armies too big. Not only do they cost us to much but they send a message to our neighbours that we plan hostilities. We want a smaller, better army to leave them off guard. I propose disbanding our infantry divisions in favour of a swift cavalry force that can strike into Bavaria before they may react.

My good lord: I am a man of peace, but I am also a man of sense. We live in a region where mountains, not plains, are the likely fields of battle. Surely our army would be at a grave disadvantage without infantry in this terrain. Besides, an infantrymen costs far less than a Knight to maintain in time of war.

OOC: I think I have an older copy of the game...I got it from a friend. The Bohemians are Catholic officially, at least from what I can tell, but i've been playing along in the RP because it makes it interesting. Also the Badens aren't Austrian vassals. Meh...I hope the gameplay's as fun as i've read on here. Anyway, back to the story!

And Meynolds is now a leader!

IC-

The Emperor nodded slowly to himself, taking the advice of both his Archbishop and his General to heart. He rose from his modest throne, only slightly higher and more elaborate than the rest of the chairs, to inspect the map on the wall. His finger pointed to Baden and then to Wurtemburg. "Yes...yes...I know what should be done.

"A grand alliance between the southern German states, if they will take one. Beginning with Baden, Wurtemburg, then Bavaria, and possibly Helvetia. The Reich will expand diplomatically in that way, and then we shall take on the heathens of the North and their allies to the East.

"Gentlemen, you are dismissed until the next counsel is called."

The Emperor set to work dispatching diplomats to the various southern German states, attempting to build a grand coalition. Only time would tell of his success.

As General Meynolds stands to leave...

"Thank you SunZyl for that clarification, and some thought shall be put into it."

*Turning to the Emporer*

"Thank you for the command post, I shall lead our armies well. At times my Generalship may interfere with my joining in these discussions, especially when at war."

OOC - Or, in other words, at times for RP reasons I will not comment on things, and shall send a review from the front.

But Archbishop you will find that how cavalry are able to move with such speed when unhindered by infantry that they will still be able to bring a good degree of shock to the battlefield. For now they are the wisest choice and the best way to gain an advantage.

If you haven't gotten too far into the game, I recommend you download 1.09, the latest version! It's just sooo great compared to older versions and you haven't gotten used to the older ones either!
