I haven't posted in quite awhile so forgive me if this has been discussed before as I am almost certain it has. In every game I have played thus far Austria has become a freaking juggernaught! My current game I am playing Two Sicily’s I have been reuniting Italy, and I thought i was doing a pretty good job I had parts of Africa, sold some to Spain for a few techs and some cash to prepare for what I knew was inevitable; war with Austria.
I got all my ducks in a row I left Sardinia-Piedmont alive with the exception of its coastal states and the two small nations that border Austria so I could form a bottle neck. I had about 12 infantry divisions with art attach to hold back at the bottleneck while I had 24 cav with hussars attached, that were cut through where I had rights of passage from Sardinia. I also had an additional 12 infantry with guards attached which was to act as my holding force once land grabbing started.
When the inevitable came, Austria dow'd me, and to my surprise the Ottomans joined on my behalf as did Spain and France. Thinking at very LEAST I would get my core land back, thus forming Italy I was pleased as to how it started.
To put it in perspective at the start of war Austria had 113 divisions, I had 48, France 90, Spain 35 and the OE 95. Conventional wisdom would think Austria had no chance, and odds makers in Las Vegas had Austria as a 200-1 underdog. To make a long story short, Spain did a stupid landing in Venice, only to lose 12 divisions in one swift blow never to send anymore. France got ground up with me fighting in my territories and the OE made the best progress until they bowed out with a status quo after losing 20+ divisions. That left France and I in what I would still call an advantageous position.
However, it was not to be as I was soon forced to retreat, Germany dow's France, France bowed out but it didn't matter because all of the French divisions there were destroyed or being pushed back at a high rate. Only my cav was saving the day running to and fro, but I knew I was done because I couldn't reinforce my divisions fast enough as my MP was depleted. I ended up taking a status quo from Austria.
How in the world is this possible, does Austria always get this powerful and if so why?
