Austria just released it's fully cored Hungary, the entire kingdom as a vassal

Why is this still happening? Why does the AI think that's better than being a little bit over the governing capacity? Why don't they build courthouses or try and release the smallest tag possible if they feel they HAVE to release something?

Austria was the number 3 power in the game and they completely screwed themselves. The game is completely unimmersive with stuff like this, and even after this long post dlc release something this insidious is still in game. Is this not a problem to other people?

I'm not posting this in the bug report forum because I'm sure it's there I mostly want to know how the community handles it? How do you play Singleplayer when the AI is this bad and easily stomped?

What lordgoof said, and by playing on previous patches. But mostly by playing other games while I wait for Tinto to come up with a good stable patch. I can wait, it's not like I don't have enough games to keep me occupied in my Steam library...

I noticed Burgundy always releasing at least one of the low countries after the inheritance, maybe it's some new positive turn for the AIs, I don't know, haven't seen it a lot yet. It seems shortsighted for Austria to release Hungary, but maybe it's not a blunder, depending of how big they were otherwise, they do get an extra army that way.

AI has a simple check for government capacity now. If they are over capacity they release random vasslas until under capacity.
On the other hand AI still can't:
- Issue estate privileges for gov capacity
- Expand administration
- build courthoused/townhalls/state houses
- un-state

In all honesty programming that lazily would have failed a second semesters game programming project at every university i know

EDIT: holy **** am i bad at typing today

Oh ok, it's more of the same then, personally I only think it worth of expanding administration by the time you finished the reforms (but I never done a WC, maybe it's needed then), and I hope by that time the AI does invest in it. Damn shame Paradox AI's can't handle the game, at least EU4's is not CK2's.

i'm on the live version right now and it happened, If it was some vassal like Moldavia I could tolerate it, or even some obtrusive DHE, but the AI is literally kneecapping itself

Wow, that's crazy. This kind of behaviour is the main reason I reverted after trying 1.31. The 1.31 patch has other bad features as well but for me, a crippled AI is definitely the worst. There are many better ways of dealing with government capacity, why the f did they get the AI to release vassals?

Old patches / other gamems.

I rarely stay on last major with EU4. Typically move (and buy DLC) only when majority of bugfixes are out so the minor is on 3 or 4.

Depending on how long it takes, it often make sense to wait a few months more and save 25% to 50% thanks to the first sale.

Yeah, I heard there was some bugs with 1.30.6, so I'm sticking with 1.30.4 waiting for 1.30.7. They might eventually fix the mercenaries as well :) .

There is at least one Austrian event (The Chastening of Hungary) that can have this outcome (and if memory serves, I think it’s not the only one involving Hungarian rebelliousness that gives Austria the option to release it as a subject or face rebellion).

Thid event only releases part of hungary and most importantly the option releasing hungary has the modifier
ai_chance = { factor = 0 }
which means that the AU will never take that option.
This is clearly happening due to the 1.31 changes regarding government capacity.

I deal with this by adding extra government capacity for the AI in the static modifiers file.
Honestly, the AI should just cheat the government capacity, if its inability to understand the system is hardcoded. The players handle capacity just fine as it is right now, and are at a huge advantage due to actually understanding all the new mechanics introduced the last few years.

I agree with you that this problem is dumb and should be fixed. But I strongly disagree with people saying this makes the game unplayable. I prefer 1.31 with this problem but the better economy management over 1.30.

For me, the number 1 AI problem is that they still destroy most of their army when at peace. This creates the strategy of blitzing which just isn't a lot of fun. A strong second is the freezing armies.

There is at least one Austrian event (The Chastening of Hungary) that can have this outcome (and if memory serves, I think it’s not the only one involving Hungarian rebelliousness that gives Austria the option to release it as a subject or face rebellion).
even in the case where an AI actually can for whatever freak reason choose an option with AI chance 0 I can confirm in my game the Ottomans did not own any provinces necessary in the trigger conditions, that being in Alfold or Transdanubia

What is the date that AI start releasing vassal?

Is this problem for late game cuz I never saw AI release vassal at all and I'm at 1640s right now.
It usually happens after they either integrate a PU or when they lose emperorship and become a duchy
