Would you favor the Burgundy Inheritance event as Austria?

I am not familiar with the event (since I never played Austria before), but the answer would be....it depends.

If we accepted we would probably become France's new rival (Burgundy is their rival now). Which is obviously bad. On the other hand accepting the inheritance would not allow France to get Burgundy's lands. That said I am very unsure what I would do. If I accepted it I would feel forced to improve my situation if France attacked. Maybe by allying Castile or one of France's powerful allies.

You will inherit Burgundy if you remain the HRE.
Austria won't inherit all of Burgundy. Usually France inherits the French territory of Burgundy.

Subbed! Saw this in the AAR Showcase and decided to have a look. Well worth it. :)
Austriae est imperare orbi universo!

Austria 1480 AD – 1489 AD

Anno 1480
8 January, 1480 : We solidified our relations with England by having a royal marriage with them. We also accepted a royal marriage with our vassal, Croatia.

16 Januari, 1480 : There is a small uprising of Bohemian nationalists in Erz. We decided to send all our troops to deal with them. They are not many, but they have defensive advantages across a river and within the Austrian mountains.

13 March, 1480 : After a bloody battle our troops are victorious!!! The Bohemian rebels have been dispersed. We did take some heavy losses in spite of our overwhelming numbers, but that was expected!!!

9 May, 1480 : We accepted the cessation of church functions. We gained some money and yearly papal influence. We can collect a lot less tax until 9 May, 1500. So we have to be very careful managing our delicate budget. We could not refuse because that would slightly destabilize Austria, not something we want with all kinds of rebels plotting Austria’s downfall. It would also have reduced our papal influence. If possible we want Austria to remain papal controller.

19 November, 1480 : Another rebellion. This time Hungarians in Sopron, who believe Sopron should belong to Hungary. Of course we cannot tolerate those traitors. The troops have been sent to kill every last one of them.

Anno 1481

5 January, 1481 : We have won the battle against the Hungarian patriots. Our troops killed every last one of them.

9 january, 1481 : Our cardinal, cardinal Cumberland has died. We are still the papal controller, but the situation is very delicate with only 1 cardinal loyal to us.

23 January, 1481 : We decided to support an additional bishop, bishop Lechner. Let us hope he gets appointed cardinal sometime soon and our influence on the pope will remain strong.

23 March, 1481 : The inhabitants of the province Oberlausitz have accepted Austria as their rightful ruler, thus slightly reducing the overextension problems within our country.

27 March, 1481 : the country of Trier is trying to expand their borders again. They are attacking cologne for the province of Westfalen. We as the emperor decided not to accept their aggressive expansional behavior. We tried to enforce a peace between the countries. Trier refused our demands, thus leading to a war with Trier. They shall regret defying their emperor!!!! We decided to only send half our forces, because of the rebellions at the homefront. Trier is fighting the war together with Frankfurt and Wurzburg. They should both be very easy to peace out with a white peace.

7 July, 1481 : On the way to the territory of Frankfurt, we noticed our allies being attacked by trier’s forces. We decided to reinforce them and deal with the attackers. A variety of other allies also joined the battle to aid us. It was a glorious victory. Meanwhile some troops are already assaulting Frankfurt.

Anno 1482

28 January, 1482 : We finished besieging Frankfurt. They have no choice but to accept whatever we demand. We decided to make them “pay”, literally this time. We offered them peace and demand all the money in their treasury. They had 1140 ducats. Almost 4 times Austria’s treasury!!! Now we march on Wurzburgs capital.

4 February, 1482 : Our military has made great advancements. Engineers invented Mortars, machines that should help us besiege forts. Meanwhile our troops attack some Trier forces they saw passing by.

2 March, 1482 : With our top-notch technology we won the battle of Wurzburg. After chasing the routed troops we managed to kill them all!!

1 April, 1482 : Our diplomats informed us of an opportunity we cannot ignore. The king of Naples is old and without successor. We offered them a royal marriage. If their king dies without heir we will inherit Naples in a personal union. Denmark will probably declare war on us if that happens. Besides that we are having so many diplomatic relations that it decreases our monthly diplomatic power we gain. We will have to fix this soon.

20 July, 1482 : The people of Erz finally recognize Austria as their rightful ruler. To fully be rid of the overextension issues in the country we also need to convince the people of Bohemia. We do not have enough diplomatic power to do this at this point however. But when we can we should.

18 Augusts, 1482 : After winning the siege of Würzburg, the country of Wurzburg accepted the white peace we offered them. Only one enemy left in this war, Trier. Luckily our allies already begun besieging their provinces.

3 October, 1482 : We (actually our allies) put enough pressure on Trier to enforce our demands. Trier agreed to release the country of Alsace, to return Nassau to the country of Hesse and pay us the small sum of 30 ducats. Unfortunately the war seemed to have emptied their treasury.

12 October, 1482 : We fired our Master Recruiter Leopald Johann Casper and used the money that became available to hire a new diplomatic advisor, which we need more at the moment. Our new advisor is the Statesman Günter Smidtberger.

Anno 1483

4 March, 1483 : After some work of our diplomat Urbino is annexed into Austria. We are not losing diplomatic power anymore because of the amount of diplomatic relations.

1 May, 1483 : Our Master of the Mint, Jacob Arlitz has died. We decided not to replace him to avoid a negatively balanced budget.

6 August, 1483 : Our royal marriage with England has ended.

18 September, 1483 : After the request of England we approved a royal marriage with them.

Anno 1484

18 November, 1484 : Because of some weird events we got called into a war by Poland. It is a war to defend Bamburg. We accepted their call to arms since the defensive side is way more powerful than the attacker. We will probably ignore the entire war until it ends.

Anno 1485

5 februari, 1485 : A Burgundian cardinal has died. Our cardinal has replaced him!!! With 2 cardinals in the college of cardinals we seem to have control over the pope for the years to come!!!

3 October, 1485 : Poland has signed peace with Thuringia. They took som money in the peace deal and forced Thuringia to release Saxony as a sovereign state. So nothing special happened.

Anno 1486

2 may, 1468 : Bavaria is now a core province of Austria. This means the Austria is not overextended at all anymore. On behalf of the young emperor Ferdinant I the regency council instituted the second imperial reform, “the Reichsregiment”. This reform gives our emperor an improved diplomatic reputation (+1) and an extra diplomat.

10 juni, 1486 : Pretender rebels rised up in Steiermark. Luckily the emperor was prepared and stationed troops to quell the rebels. The battle was short and the rebels were crushed in not time.

31 December, 1481 : One of our cardinals has deceased. Fortunately he got replaced by another cardinal favorable to us, cardinal Lechner. There must be some divine plan at work here..

Anno 1487

10 February, 1487 : Naples who has a royal marriage with us has been at war with the papal states for a while. Other participants in that war are Aragon and Burgundy. They already seemed to have established a peace with Aragon. By trying to enforce peace with the papal states we managed to join Naples side and become the war leader. We can use this position to improve our own situation. Burgundy has some nations that need releasing and we might want to try to get our hands on some of the pope’s territory.

Anno 1488

2 May, 1488 : Damn the king of naples. The 60 year old goat managed to fabricate an heir after all. Unfortunately that means our chances to inherit Naples have disappeared. Yet we are still involved in a war to protect Naples. The war will continue, but only to strengthen Austria.

29 October, 1488 : The war is going really well. We are making good progress on besieging Burgundy’s lands. Some of our allies decided to deal with the Papal States directly. This resulted in a total defeat of the Papal States. We, as the warleader, decided not to accept the peace offer from The Papal States, because we wanted to put some more pressure on Burgundy. Our ally, Genoa decided to take initiative and make peace with The Papal States in exchange for some ducats. Thus they released occupied Papal lands and left the war. So the war rages on…

Anno 1489

22 April, 1489 : Because we are obviously superior in this war our populations starts complaining about the length of the war. Luckily we already managed to put enough pressure on Burgundy to release the country of Holland. Holland is an official part of the Holy Roman Empire again!!!

gtW9f2X.png

3 May, 1489 : We accepted a peace with The Papal States. They publicly proclaimed they were defeated by Austria. The war ends.. Our manpower is almost at full power. Thus we could involve ourselves in some big war. But there is nothing we can interfere with at the moment. And we cannot act aggressive while the regency council is in place.
Our people are really upset about the legitimacy of the future ruler (6 legitimacy a.t.m.). Therefore our position with the electors is horrible. This situation probably won’t improve until little Ferdinand becomes of age and can prove himself to be a worthy ruler. However no worries about it since Ferdinand is only 10 year old and 10 year olds do not die often….right!?!??!

28 July, 1489: the prince of The Hansa decided to become a protestant heretic, destroying our hard earned imperial authority in the process. We decided to tolerate their choice for the time being.

The reformation seems to have started off. Therefore we will most likely not be able to pass reforms in the next decades/centuries. Unless we actually decide to become a protestant Austria, when we get the chance. But the problem then will be dealing with converting all of Austria’s provinces to the new religion, dealing with rebellions that come with it and dealing with the catholic electors. Until we regained a lot of legitimacy (we have 6 right now, so it will take at least 30 – 40 years to get it to a proper level) we will not be able to pull this off.

Last months of 1489 and final notes will be added soon
