The Awful Confusion of Fighting Everyone, Everywhere

February 1658

Colonist to Kuala Lampur (46%), and eight warships ordered in Malacca. In March we discover mobile artillery (land tech 20) allowing us to build even larger fortresses. Forts enlarged in Penobscot, Istria and Malacca. Our ships can now have lower deck batteries (naval tech 20). In September we succeed in Kuala Lampur and follow with another colonist (52%).

1659 Tax 1429d

Our Land tech is well above all other nations (20 to 13), and even naval tech puts us well ahead (20 to 16), to a lesser extent the same holds for infrastructure (6+ to 5) and trade (6+ to 6). Seven warships ordered in the Med, and we notice that we can build 23 at a time in Flandres. In February we learn that we failed in Kuala Lampur. In April, bureaucrats announce that Vienna, which they call the Central Government, can see to it that production is increased throughout the realm (Infrastructure tech level 7). England ceded Munster to Spain in July. In October we discover Mortars (land tech 21). We send another colonist to Kuala Lampur in December.

1660 Tax 1419d

Eight more warships ordered in Malacca to add to the seventeen, and nine transports, we have there now. We order the walls to be maximized in Jerusalem, Iraq and Aleppo. We fail again in Kuala Lampur. In September we try again.

1661 Tax 1424d

We discover cartography (naval tech 21), so any fleet can explore into the unknown. We recruit up to a total army of 418/106/1413, adding mostly in Europe. Our next war should be mainly Denmark and the middle east, but we will give natural forces some time yet to produce a war. Perhaps we are getting spoiled. We fail yet again in Kuala Lampur. In December Turkey (Wallachia, Crimea, Nubia, Algiers) DOWs the Mamelukes (Persia).

1662 Tax 1430d

Eight more warships ordered in Malacca, and colonist sent to Kuala Lampur. We notice 85000 Mamelukes in Sinai, which will support only 2000 troops. In May we decide that we have waited long enough. The Turks and Persians have been at war a long time, and Monty is not getting younger, so we DoW Persia (Mamelukes, Oman), hoping to grab provinces nearer Persia's capitol before we turn our attention to the other wars that come our way. Spain joins. Monty with 14/0/116 travels with a separate force of 5/11/10 to Hamad. We send 6/0/79 into Kirkuk. We note that the Mameluke in Sinai are down to 24000. Col Gurlitz takes 25/0/0 into Kars. We fail again in Kuala Lampur. In June Venice (England, Knights, Poland) DoW us, Spain joins. Col Mack takes 16/6/146 to an undefended London. Our new world force of 12/6/100 moves on Micmac, hoping to storm it, we shall see. Two forces totalling 21/13/160 move on Venice, only the cannon heavy force will stay. We beseige Kars (4) and Kirkuk (4). Crimea (Turkey) DoW us, and Spain again joins our war. Monty defeats both Persian and Turk and beseiges Hamad (4) and the additional force moves on into Awhaz, which is contiguous to the Persian capitol. Portugal (Scotland, Morocco, China) DoW us, dragging Spain into yet another war. 17/2/10 Venetians meet our 21/13/160 in Venice, and our forces simultaneously arrive in Warsaw and London. Impressive if accidental. Hungary DoWs us. We leave 20/0/150 in Venice, after killing all but 31 infantry of the enemy.

August 1662

In Micmac 12/6/100 face England's 4/0/10, and the enemy is killed to the last man. We storm the city but must watch silently as 117 men and one cannon send us running back to our camps. A small force, 9/0/100, beseiges Magyar. As the shrine to Our Lady in Sudeten becomes more popular, Bohemia converts to Catholicism (RE: conversion).

November 1662

Galicia and Holland revolt, and for once we have spare armies near each to meet the challenge. We suddenly remember the need to take Yanam, and move accordingly. We take Warsaw from Poland and move the force on to join the men now in Podlasia (3), who have no cannon. In December Monty captures Hamad from Persia, and moves on to take over from the army in Awhaz, which will move on the Persian capitol of Isfahan.

1663 Tax 1148d

Our forces move into an undefended and unfortified Yanam. We take Kirkuk from Persia and decline Hamad. The Kirkuk army moves to Tabriz. We have not had to defend Aleppo yet this war, all our actions have been on enemy soil in the mideast. We take London, and our second try gets us Micmac, which the British offer us with Bangor, and we decline. We will burn the trading post at Bangor and insist on Yanam and Micmac. We try again in Kuala Lampur. We accept a white peace with Hungary, and take Yanam, leaving 10/0/0 there. We burn the trading post in Fundy, but our 4000 horse turn back to Micmac when we see some 18000 English in Nova Scotia. Monty captures Ahwaz, and both forces move to Isfahan. 16/3 English catch our 0/4/0 in Fundy struggling to cross a river, our men are annihilated, leaving only 2/0/100 in the new world, we must make peace with England. England grants us Micmac and Yanam in return for London. As our troops begin the voyage from Yanam, our defenses in Malacca may prove insufficient, 14000 Chinese cavalry fight 9000 Austrian infantry, but our forces win the day.

March 1663

Hyderbad DoWs us, this will be bad. Sweden DoWs us and somehow our request for Spanish help is lost in the mail (game paused, assistance request ignored). The Swedes send 28/7/50 to face our 27/4/0 in Skane, we lose 2000 infantry and 500 horse, but kill 14/2/19. Presumably our technology advantage is beginning to show. We send 10/4 to Gotland in pursuit. Hyderbad rejects a white peace.

May 1663

We decline Hamad and Kirkuk from Persia, once we take Isfahan we want Awhaz as well. In the course of 24 hours we capture Venice, annihilate the remaining Chinese in Signgapore, but are annihilated in Yanam by Hyderbad, who takes the province. Our conquest of India had serious flaws, we need an Indian ally. We spend our money on cavalry and cannon in Vienna and Bohemia, so that the next Crimean demand for a cash peace will be acceptable. Troops arive off Azores for yet another attempt. We capture Podlasia from Poland. We capture Tabriz from Persia, and expand for once in Kuala Lampur. We accept Podlasia from Poland, cutting off another country's capitol from the rest of it. We defeat 10/0/0 Chinese in Malacca. In the Azores 21/10/90 face Portugese 16/8/28, we annihilate the enemy. The Mamelukes give 250d and Alexandria to Nubia. On July 19 Monty captures Isfahan. Persia rejects our offer of peace for Kirku, Hamad and Awhaz. Monty moves to Persis. We pay Crimea 53d for peace, regrettable but necessary. Venice pays 125d for peace.

October 1663

We capture Bristol from Scotland, and send the men toward her capitol. We accept the Azores for peace from Portugal, which saves an assault on Tago and sets up one in Scotland.

1664 Tax 1162d

Colonists to Kuala Lampur (56%). Walls maximized in Judea, Lebanon and Syria. Walls finally expanded (to 3) in Micmac and Skane and Vienna. We give 10d and Yanam to Hyderbad. More finesse will be required in India. We realize with much consternation that our peace with Portugal cost us Bristol, since Porugal was the alliance leader and Scotland her ally. Well, it is difficult to keep that many wars clear. In March Monty captures Persis, at some point the Persians need to offer us three provinces to get their capitol back, they again reject the three we want. Mamelukes pay 187d and return Cataract to Turkey. We pay Sweden 30d for peace, leaving only the Persians etc to fight. We again decline Hamad and Kirkuk, maybe if we make peace with all of her allies Persia will come to her senses. Mamelukes reject a white peace and we fail in Kuala Lampur. When Helvetia revolts we know that Persia's delay is costing us and not her, we may make Persia's annexation our next project and delay India infinitely.

1665 Tax 1428d

We order a weapons facility in Ostmark. We maximize walls in Micmac, and send a colonist to Kuala Lampur. Walls boosted (to 2) in Krakow and Galicia. Persia gives in to our demand for Hamad and Awhaz for peace, ending the last of our wars. We will make the contumaceous Persians our next target, and hope to annex them. We realize that we depended on Denmark to suicide, we will need to DoW them as well.

King Leopold is generally pleased with the war. The loss of Yanam was unfortunate, and all too predictable given the hatred of all the world. Also, the loss of Bristol to a mix up in peace making was unfortunate. Still, we took two provinces from Persia, one from Poland, and finally acquired the Azores. Further, we took Micmac from England, a substantial province in that part of the world. It occurs to us that while the rest of the world cannot fight us for five years, we can fight Denmark now, and annexation would buy back half the stability loss of the DoW.

The Last Danish?

February 1665

Walls increased in Awhaz (to 3) and Hamad (to 2). Denmark has a trading post in Muni but no other colonies visible to us. We will move troops into position and then DoW Denmark for the last time. (I checked to make sure Denmark was not a major, that would have been embarassing). In June we fail again in Kuala Lampur.

September 1665

We begin the battle for Denmark with some trepidation, seeing 56000 Danes on their Island in the Bothnian Sea, Gotland, but the rest should be easier. Copenhagen is undefended, and two colonies have no walls. Our ambassador arrives in Copenhagen and the Danes claim it has been less than five years since we made peace, so all troops and ships return to start. We hope that the Danes are unable to use this advance warning to their advantage. We send a gift to our neglected ally (+102 to +159). Our notes indicate that we have not made peace with the Danes since 1658, so their lies and treachery have cost us valuable time. Then a page wonders aloud if it matters whether the Danes are a vassal of Sweden or not. We conclude that it must, somehow. Unfortunately, we made peace with the Swedes in 1664. We wonder how it could be that a DoW by the Swedes but not the Danes would not permit us to attack the Danes but would prevent us from attacking them later. It matters not, even we, hated as we are worldwide, cannot break a peace, however silly it is. In October the Danes in Jyland, having heard of our plans, revolt.

1666 Tax 1443d

The peasants are petrified that the end of the world is nigh, because of the satanic nature of the year. We will bide our time and try to avoid further upsetting them. We order a shipyard to be built in Naples. Troops, 15/5, recruited in the middle east. Personal gift to Spain (+157 to +180). We suffer our annual failure in Kuala Lampur. In May Russia DoWs Sibir yet again. We discover explosive balls (land tech 22).

1667 Tax 1495d

We survived Satan's year. The colonization minister does not even enter the room, we see him standing in tha hall and dismiss him without needing to hear the result. We order six warships in Ragusa and eight in Malacca, which will bring our far east fleet to forty warships and nine transports. The diplomats in Sibir are astounding, again they pay, and only 46d, for peace with Russia. We note that the Russians have a permanent CB, so the wars are not so bad for Russia after all. We recruit 0/8/100 in Bohemia, we will scrounge up infantry for the new army later. In June two revolts brighten up an otherwise dull year. The hulls of our warships have dramatically improved (naval tech 22). King Leopold , thinking that our scientists said improved "holes" in our ships, suffers a serious emotional attack (RE: Crazy monarch for 7 months, though I wonder wheher the time limit is going to be correct). In October we send 100 men to their deaths yet again in Kuala Lampur.

1668 Tax 1473d

We continue to build up our negelcted forces in north america. The colonization minister this time merely clears his throat from the outer hall. We need to begin killing again and soon. We recruit 9/15 in the middle east, and 18000 in Bohemia rather than taking them from other armies as we had planned. We cannot find any enemy to kill however, it has been lesss than five years with all good targets, and we must wait awhile. In May England (Venice, Knights, Poland) DoWs Sweden (France, Denmark, Teutonic Order). Later in May Spain accepts Lincoln from Sweden, which leaves no point of conflict between England and the Swedes. France then cedes Connault to Spain. Our ally has a large presence in the British Isles these days, already owning Munster (Eire) and Wales. In a demented Satanic ritual we order the ritual sacrifice of 100 souls.

1669 Tax 1480d

We develop mixed formations (land tech 23). We see the colonization Minister approaching the castle, he turns and leaves. Walls expanded in Awhaz (to 4) and Hamad (to 3). We recruit 0/10/100 in the middle east.

July 1669

We finally can declare our war on Denmark, though we are unsure if their vassalage will prevent annexation (doh). Still, at worst we get three provinces and the chance to kill someone other than our own colonists for the first time in five years. Men are loaded onto ships, and other prepare for war. As our preparations are underway Turkey (Crimea, Wallachia, Algiers) DoWs the Mamelukes (Persia) for perhaps the last time. The fleet arrives of Gotland to see 69000 Danes defending, so we pick up the Copenhagen force before DoWing. It is September when we finally DoW Denmark (France, Sweden, Teutonic Order), Spain joins. Our Penobscot army marches on an unseen but burning Adirondak, but then is redirected to the CoT in Manhattan. On the same day Scotland (Portugal, Morocco, Mysore) and Poland (Venice, England) DoW us, Spain joins all. We send 12/12/10 on Venice, and 19/5/106 on London. One army arrives earlier than the other on Gotland, 20/7 faces 55/5/81, and prays for the rest to arrive soon. In October Hungary DoWs us. Crimea (Turkey, Oman) does the same, and Spain joins. The battle in Gotland actually looked better before our second force arrived. We barely lose, leaving 30/1/51 remaining defenders, we lost roughly 20/7 to the enemy's loss of 25/4/30.

1670 Tax 1212d

Numerous unclear battles crop up in Poland, and we discover odds and ends of armies we had forgotten from the last war, feeling understandably neglected. In Presburg Ferdinand (3/2/2 zero seige) arises from the troops to take command, he is sent to Magyar. In February Paris again falls. Monty heads to Basrah after months of planning. We accept a white peace with the Teutonic Order, hoping to reduce Denmark's allies. The Satanic ritual is repeated in February (58% my pitootie). We capture Copenhagen, and send the force aboard ship to head to Iceland and then the northern parts of Denmark.

March 1670

We accept a white peace from Sweden, leaving only France with the Danes. We capture Podolia from Poland, and the men are sent to Moldavia. On May 21 we capture Magyar. We will consider annexing the Hungarians while we are in an annexing mood, the Danes will be a long time coming.

June 1670

Monty captures Basrah from the Turks. A deep fog surrounds the castle, and the sound of a horse is heard on the cobbelstone. The horse snorts, and we recognize the sound of the mount of our colonization minister, who turns and trots into the mists of he who was once the Angel of Light. At the end of July we capture Warsaw. England acquires Sacramento and Munster from Spain.

August 1670

We accept Podolia for peace with Poland and friends. In September the Mamelukes are finally annexed by Turkey. In Fundy our 8/4/20 face England's 8000 infantry, whom we annihilate for few losses, as we move to England's city in Nova Scotia. We conquer Moldovia and move on Maros. In October we capture Lancashire from Scotland. We launch our second assault on Gotland, with only one army this time. We take Nova Scotia by storm just as the second battle for Gotland begins, pitting our 18/16/105 against Denmark's 35/3/56, we lose about 10/3/12, and cannot tell what the enemy's losses were, though later they apear to have disappeared entirely.

1671 Tax 1169d

In a grove shrouded in mist we damn the souls of 100 people to hell for all eternity (colonist to Kuala Lampur). England grants us Nova Scotia and the trading post of Gespasie for peace. Wallachia and then Persia (Georgia) DoW us, so that Monty can go to work and Spain suffer through more wars.

May 1671

We storm Ostander, and with Swedish help take that province from Denmark. The Scots were trying to take back Lancashire, so our 12/4 face 10/6/27 (I think we won). Russia (Pskov, Knights) DoW us, we do not invite Spain. We see a horse in the far distant hills surrounding the castle, it pauses, the rider, barely visible at this distance, then turns the horse and they trot away. In June Monty arrives in Isfahan. 40,000 Russian infantry arrive in Podolia. Ferdinand took Banat from Hungary, leaving only Serbia (1) and Maros (0). Ferdinand moves to Wallachia. Monty captures the Persian capitol of Isfahan and moves on Persis. We capture Adirondak from France, and they cede that to us and Matagorda to Spain for peace. Satan may soon be pleased yet again.

September 1671

We capture Bristol from Scotland. We finally take Gotland, leaving only Bergen (-2), Vestfold, Trendeleg (1) and Jamptland. We capture Vestfold in November. Denmark pays 250d to Spain for peace. We capture Maros from Hungary, leaving only Serbia (-5). Stability maximized in December.

1672 Tax 1487d

The Turks offer us Arabia and Basrah and we accept. Walls expanded in Adirondak (to 3). The Russians are in Podolia (-7) with 103/27/160, and it is snowy. Walls expanded in Galicia, Krakow, Posen and SIlesia. On the sixth we capture Serbia, and annex Hungary. We pay Crimea 5d for peace with Crimea and Oman. The Russians lose 23000 men to attrition as February arrives in Podolia (-8). On the third a shadow against the distant sun stops in place, turns and rides away. On February 5 we lose Podolia, but capture Midlands from Scotland, and Persis and Kirkuk from Persia, a busy day. Our peace with Crimea did not take, we refuse to pay 60d. Spain grants Andalusia and pays 250d to Portugal. We will have to free Andalusia soon.

March 1672

We capture Wallachia, Spain took her other province of Croatia in a peace we missed, and we annex Wallachia. We accept a white peace with Oman. Atlantic fleet sent to pick up troops from Gotland to take to Portugal and Andalusia. We pay 7d to Crimea for more peace. We beseige Podolia (2) with 13/7/78, while Russia and Pskov have 57/23/160 in Moldavia. We besiege Lothian (-1). Russians reduced to 42/20/160 in Moldavia. Danish recruits chase us from Trandelag. Monty moves to Tabriz. Persia cedes us Kirkuk and Persis. Venice pays Spain 181d to end their war. Denmark cedes us Gotland, Ostander and Vestfold, we will take the whole country next time, but her recruits were fast becoming more than we had in the area. Portugal, Russia+ and Scotland+ are our only remaining wars. Russia is much reduced, but captures Moldavia. Podolia (-2) progresses well, and on July 5th we retake it.

August 1672

Our force of 12/7/78 arrives in Galicia to face 16/9/160 Russians in Galicia, and we send 1/7/148 running from the field, and return to Moldavia. Gotland revolts, and we have no troops there, unfortunately. We capture Edinburg, Scotland offers us only two, then refuses our demands for three provinces. Russia rejects a white peace (no stars). Ferdinand storms Moldavia, and moves to relieve Galicia. Russia rejects a white peace (one star). On December 26 we capture Andalusia and send the fleet back to take the men to Tago.

1673 Tax 1582d

We accept Russia's offer of a white peace. Satan's future pleasure is assured again. In March we discover seige land mines (land tech 23). We beseige Tago with 0/9/97.

July 1673

The widow of our colonization minister arrives at the castle. She explains that although the heart attack killed her husband, he died a happy man. Our merchants develop the concept of protectionism (trade tech 7). In August we tempt fate. In October we capture Tago, and accept Andalusia for peace. Scotland then grants us Bristol and the Midlands for peace, ending the last of our wars. We dicover naval light artillery (naval tech 23), and try to put down the revolt that popped up midwar in Andalusia.

King Leopold smiles and notes that reviewing the mad confusion of our wars is growing more and more difficult, although he is quite pleased with the result. We finally annexed Hungary, we annexed Wallachia, we took provinces from Denmark and Scotland threatening annexation of each, we took two more cities in the new world, we took Andalusia, a city of 250,000 with a shipyard which can build twenty warships at once, and we took four provinces in the middle east, separating Persia from many of her provinces. All in all, it was our most succesful war in many decades.

The End of the Scots

1674 Tax 1599d

We discover that we have been neglecting Maj General Waldeck (3/3/2 one at seige) in Aleppo, he rose from the ranks at the same time as Ferdinand. Walls expanded in Persis, Hamad, Kirkuk, and Basrah, walls in the new world maxxed out except for Nova Scotia which will be soon (building to 3 now). Personal gift to Spain (+112 to +200). Our new colonization minister shouts from the palace gate, and rides away. We now make 1072d, of a possible 1692d, in Malacca. This one CoT exceeds the total annual income of all major nations except Spain (4000d) and Russia (1500d) we ourselves receive 7000d total per annum. In October we order the walls maximized in Nova Scotia. Spain and Poland sign a white peace. We have left 18/7/97 in Andalusia, for revolts and to take Algarve and Tago in the next war. Our annual Satanic ritual begins in November (colonist to Kuala Lampur).

1675 Tax 1660d

Walls expanded in Persis, Kirkuk, Arabia and Basrah. Commercy 4/2/4 rises in Malacca, where we do not need a leader. He will be moved to the new world, and Mahe, Table, and the Azores will make themselves useful. Waldeck will conquer Venice's islands in the next war. We have let Venice's half a million residents do without our enlightened rule for far too long. Kurdistan and Kivas are ceded to Turkey by Persia, making our final annexation of Persia easy and sooner than otherwise. Thirteen warships ordered in Andalusia. We discover the carbine in February (land tech 25). Spain grants Lincoln to Scotland. We regret that so many of our wars harm our ally and indirectly help us as we reconquer formerly Spanish territory. Sibir pays Russia 90d for five years of peace. We note in August that in March Kuala Lampur expanded (only failures produce the message box). In September Commercy arrives in Penobscot. We send another colonist in October.

1676 Tax 1682d

Walls maximized in Kent, Skane, Eastern Prussia, Lithuania and Ragusa. Peace causes enthusiasm for the army, 5/1 join our forces in Vienna (RE: get the same number of added men I got 150 years ago, heh). At some point attempts at description simply fail us, this is such a time. No fog no horses, nothing. Obviously our prior orders about sharing technology meant nothing, our land researchers discover the explosive shells our navy has been using for years (land tech 26). Walls are being expanded (to 2) in Holstein, and maximized in Flandres. England cedes Seminole to France. In December we waste another colonist.

1677 Tax 1675d

Persis, Kirkuk, Krakow and Naples walls maximized. Andalusia increased (to 2). We discover hand grenades (land tech 27). In April we succeed in Kuala Lampur, one more will make a city, a mere, oh, forty years in the making it seems. Walls maximized in Genoa. Oman (Turkey, Crimea, Algiers) DoWs Persia. We note that we have the ability to DoW Denmark and we move into position. In December we discover Naval Infantry (naval tech 24) and grenadiers (land tech 28).

1678 Tax 1677d

We try again in Kuala Lampur. Sweden has troops in Denmark's northern provinces so we will wait, and possibly just annex the capitol if Sweden takes the northern two provinces in a peace treaty. We do not want to capture the province only to have it go to Sweden. We build up instead in England for the conquest of Scotland. In August, as we continue to wait for a natural war, Kuala Lampur becomes a city. We send a trader to Phuket.

1679 Tax 1682d

We discover the Bayonet (land tech 29), so obviously we can now build larger fortresses. Vienna, Skane, Awhaz, Flandres, Malacca and Aleppo maximized. We recruit another army in France of 22/5/50 for revolt duty and capturing Paris. Persia pays 95d and gives Nuysaybin and Tabriz to Turkey. We receive a weapons manufactury in Sudeten (RE). We failed in Phuket.

June 1679

We DoW Scotland (Portugal) and Spain joins. Denmark was too risky as we might not have gotten the provinces even if they were captured. Col Bad Ischl takes 14/4/106 into Lincoln, Col Graz takes 13/2/93 into Lancashire. From Andalusia Col Monfalcone takes 15/6/94 to Tago. Russia (Pskov, Knights, Persia) DoW us and Spain joins. Col Karlsbad takes 13/0/95 into Kirkuk. Teutonic Order (Sweden, France) DoW us, Spain joins. Commercy moves on Manhattan with two armies totalling 18/11/117. Poland (Venice, England) DoW us, Spain joins, and Maj General Waldek will start taking Venice's islands. It is fortunate we do not yet face the Turk, whose navy would be a real problem in the Med. Poor planning, we can only hold twenty thousand troops and Venice has 60,000 on Cyprus alone. Our Atlantic fleet will have to join the Med fleet. In July Crimea (Turkey, Algiers) DoWs us, Spain joins. Commercy begins his seige of Manhattan (5, level 3). We face a great many armies in many places, Serbia, Persis and others are beseiged. Too many enemies, but the ones we want (e.g. Russia) are not demanding our small treasury. We steal the maps of the Knights and Crimea in the Gulf of Cyprus when we notice that their fleets were very near ours, and sent our for a quick victory off Lebanon.

October 1679

Col Inzel storms Warsaw, and seeing that the 110/42/244 troops in Lithuania recently failed to storm the province we send Ferdinand from Podlasia and Inzel from Warsaw into Lithuania. We total 23/30/155 fresh troops. Although peace with Poland takes Venice and England out of the war, we accept 15d for peace, and hopefully will have reduced the enemy number in Lithuania. Better still 15000 Poles and 40000 Teutonic forces fight in Lithuania, with Russians unseen. As the Poles lose we see that the troops present have not been reduced much. We recall Ferdinand and Inzel as we see that the enemy is no longer near exhaustion, and that our walls (level 4, strength 6) are holding. The enemy victory in battle may have refreshed them. We took Lincoln and Lancashire, so we move on Yorkshire and the Marches. Russia refuses a white peace. The forces in Lithuania now total 205/40/288. In December we capture Kars from Persia, and move on Tabriz. We have captured Tago, and move on Algarve. The Portugese reject a white peace. Ferdinand and 9/20/85 faces a tired Russian force of 17/0/0 in Podolia, and wins.

1680 Tax 1340d

The Russians try to storm Lithuaniua. We capture Isfahan again and the Russians fail in Lithuania. Inzel and 11/9/70 marches on Lithuania's exhausted 200,000 attackers. In February we capture Paris. Waldek captures Nubayassin but Inzel's brave attack fails to dislodge the Russians from Lithuania, who are down to 100/20/275. We accept Kars and 27d from Persia. In March we capture Algarve from Turkey, and move to retake Andalusia from the rebels.

May 1680

Commercy captures Manhattan from France and we accept that for peace, then we realize that we had foolishly forgotten our small army in French Cornwall. Next war. Bad Ischl takes Yorkshire and moves on to Lothian. Col Graz takes the Marches and moves on StrathClyde. Ferdinand beseiges Bulgaria, but seeing an empty Thrace we move on to Constantinople. We accept a white peace with Portugal, stripping Scotland of her only ally. We accept a white peace with Sweden. Russia takes Lithuania finally. Ferdinand arrives in Thrace (2) and begins the seige. Col Karlsbad captures Tabriz, but we have yet to hear an offer from the Turk. In July Ferdinand captures Thrace and moves back to Bulgaria. The Turk refuses our demand of the three provinces we have taken. Waldek abandones the seige of Kurdistan (-5) because we do not want it in place of one of the three we already have taken from Turkey. We accept Algarve, Tabriz and Nuysayasin from Turkey. Now we can accept one of the Crimea's many cash peace demands. We pay Crimea 24d for peace. Col Bad Ischl captures Lothian and moves on to the Grampians.

1681 Tax 1432d

Inzel captures Curland and moves to Livonia, the Teutonic Order's capitol. The eastern front lights up with our recruitment, when completed our total forces will be 380/167/1611. Our 13/5/103 face 10/2/11 Russians in Podlasia, we annihilate them and move on to a virtually undefended Lithuania. As Podolia was about to fall (-5) we sent 39/0/0 to face Russia's tired 20/14/139, we win but the Russians have a dozen armies and we are unsure of their losses, except that they suffered greatly. Bad Ischl takes the Grampians and our other forces move on the Highlands. We have revolts in Midlands and Bristol however, and our armies in Scotland have suffered greatly and are much reduced. Ferdinand 4/18/85 tries to relieve the seige of Kurland, which we would like to keep, facing Teutonic Order's 24/2/103, we kill all but 10/0/84, and move on to Livonia. Scotland, down to just the Highlands, offers us two provinces only now. Our second assault on Lithuania succeeds. Russia offers a white peace and we accept, retrieving Mozyr for Spain, which the Russians had taken. Inzel and 2/1/48 moves into Memel. Bad policies cost us a great deal, stability and research (RE: trade and infrastructure research halved, stability -1 to +1).

1682 Tax 1339d

Our forces from France arrive by naval transfer in the Highlands, where we had shockingly been defeated, and try to storm the province. We need peace soon, and a stability boost would be nice. The second assault is successful in the Highlands, and we annex Scotland, maximizing our stability. In April we send one of the three colonists we have saved up to become a trader in Phuket, we did not want our trading post burned mid war so we had waited. We send a colonist (38%) to follow up our successful trader in Phuket. In September Russia DoWed Sibir. France DoWs England (Poland, Venice). In October we capture Livonia and accept Kurland for peace. There are many revolts in Britain and France to clean up post-war.

The King is again pleased, we annexed Scotland taking much of Britain. We took three nice provinces from Turkey and captured Constantinople for the first time. We took a province of 100,000 people from the Teutonic Order, and acquired another province from Persia as well. Further, as difficult as the Russians are, we destroyed many of their men through battle and attitrition, and lost no provinces. Denmark and Venice remain to be annexed, however, so preparations must be made for the next war.

Persia and Venice

November 1682

Personal gift to Spain (+99 to +127).

1683 Tax 1691d

Personal gift to Spain (+126 to +178). Numerous walls upgraded in the middle east and along our frontier with Russia. In February we establish a colony in Phuket, and send another. Sibir payed 183d to Russia. We develope regimental orders (land tech 30). We succeed again in Phuket.

1684 Tax 1717d

We send another colonist. We fail in Phuket and try again (44%). Gift to Spain (+172 to +196). We develop boarding tactics (naval tech 25). In July we fail again. England pays 45d to Spain.

1685 Tax 1845d

Stahremberg arises in Malacca (4/3/4 three at seige), and Prinz Eugen arises in Skane (5/5/5 one at seige). We have an embarassment of riches in commanders. Stahremberg is sent to the Gulf of Suez to be disembarked to Jordan. Prinz Eugen will head to Prussia. We discover Conscriptionary Centers (land tech 31), we build them in Vienna and Bohemia. In May Turkey (Crimea, Algiers, Oman) DoWs Georgia. We order 4000 more infantry for Prinz Eugen, putting our total forces to 502/140/1638. In June Russia (Pskov, Knights, Persia) DoWs the Teutonic Order (Sweden, France, Denmark). Georgia pays Crimea 173d in October. In November Monetcuccoli, liberator of Jerusalem, conqueror of much of the middle east, bane of the Persians, dies in Persis, preparing the next round of wars with the heathen foe. We discover Vaisseaux (naval tech 26), and explain to his majesty, when he asks what it is, that "it's technical."

1686 Tax 1856d

We try again in Phuket (44%), having failed last year. Walls expanded in several places in the middle east and two more conscription centers built in home provinces. France and Poland sign a white peace. In April the navy discovers explosive balls (naval tech 27). In May we increase the population of Phuket to 308, and expand the walls in Kuala Lampur (to 3). Our review of the world shows that the province(s) we most want is simply Venice, and so the Atlantic fleet of 32/13 is sent to Lebanon to join the Med fleet of 32/0 for action against Venice's well defended islands. This could take more than one war, we suppose. Waldeck is reinforced, he will have 35/20/94 when all his forces are assembled, his main group only 13/0/84 with the rest in a second group who will withdraw for the siege phase. Isfahan is also a worthy goal but the desert provinces Persia owns will have to be stormed and not beseiged as they are not suitable for any life outside the towns themselves. In September we develop gallup charges (land tech 32). The Atlantic fleet arrives in Lebanon, and we DoW Venice, Spain joins us but neither England nor Poland join Venice. Russia (Pskov, Knights, Persia) DoW us, Spain joins. France (Sweden) DoWs us but we, alone, will knock them out soon. Commercy moves on Susquehenna, and a small force moves on Paris. Turkey (Crimea, Algiers, Oman, China) DoWs us and Spain joins.

November 1686

Portugal (Mysore) DoWs us, Spain joins, and 14/4/90 move from Algarve to undefended Tago. We just fail to storm Lut, while Stahremberg beseiges Isfahan (1). 34/20/94 head to Cyprus to meet a reputed 60,000 Venetian troops. Col Bronn is sent from Jerusalem to Egypt with 13/3/83, bypassing Sinai.

1687 Tax 1452d

We send a colonist to Phuket (49%) and recruit 50/0/30 in and around Vienna. Waldek and his 34/20/94 face Venice's 43/15/20 on Cyprus, we win with very few losses. On February 3rd we capture Isfahan yet again. Schremberg move on to Balucht, where attrition will be very bad. Waldek storms Cyprus and takes it easily. On the 26th we capture Azerbaijan, and Col Villack moves to Armenia from there. However, our exhausted troops in Lut are driven from that province after a second unsuccesful assault. In the meantime we capture an unfortified Powhatan from France, while Commercy works on Susquehenna (-2). In March, with Spanish help, we storm Venice. We wanted Venice to make peace with Spain and leave us time for a seige if our ally got the province instead of us. Another army storms Brujek and moves on to Dobrujna.

May 1687

Waldek begins disembarking onto Crete. The seige in Egypt goes well (-4). We expand in Phuket. At the end of the month we capture Egypt. On June 3rd we capture Susquehenna. Waldek has only 10/17/85 against Venice's 36/6/50, we will have to reinforce him, possibly even before we move on to Corfu. Mid battle we capture Balucht and Paris, but Waldek loses in Crete. Waldek will get more men and try again, or he would, but he seems to have died at some point, unreported as far as we can tell. Venice lost 15/2/15, while we lost 10/11/46, and a fine commander. Strehmberg moves to Hormuz. Belatedly, we send forces to take Cornwall from France. Ferdinand conquers Ukraine, and moves on to Belgorad, inching closer to the Russian capitol. The Army of Venice we ignored finally took Matua, so we move to retake it. On November 11th we storm Cornwall, but France refuses to give us the two colonies and Cornwall (six stars, no surprise really). Turkey refuses to offer us more than Bujak, and Russia offers only a white peace.

1686 Tax 1461d

Colonist to Phuket (51%). Ferdinand captures Belgorad, and we decline Ukraine, both as inadequate, and because we need peace with Persia first to acquire provinces from her. Russia is the alliance leader peace with them will have to wait. Ferdinand moves to snowy Kursk. In February we capture Tago, and Portugal refuses a cash peace (four stars). Stehmberg captures Hormuz from Persia, and moves on to Mekran. France gives us Cornwall and Susquehenna to get Paris back.

March 1686

We again unload onto Crete. We capture Armenia from Persia, annexation is shaping up as a real possibility, or else we will be giving much back only to have to retake it in the next war. Our 29/7/115 face Venice's 22/4/35 in Crete, we annihilate the enemy with negligable losses. We expand in Phuket but fail to storm Crete, losing a great many men, reducing our army to 14/4/106 to face the now 1400 defenders. Turkey refuses our offer of peace for Egypt (three stars), and offers Bujak again and again.

June 1686

Poland (England) DoWs us, Spain joins. Prinz Eugen will move on Warsaw when the 40000 Poles there leave. Ferdinand captures Kursk and is sent home. China took Phuket but with a mere 1000 men. In Ebruz our 31,000 infantry face Persia's 15/0/79, we lose 4000 and annihilate the enemy as well as their new recruits who arrive at the end of the battle. A mere 235 men send our 24000 to their camps to beseige the province as the assault fails. Strehmberg took Mekran and moves to Baluchistan. In August England ceded Allegheny and Alabama to France and pays 48d. A second storm of Crete succeeds. Thrace (-5) should fall soon. We storm Warsaw and Poland pays us 42d for peace. Colonist to Phuket (59%). On September 26 we capture Thrace, while the Turks beseige Egypt. With 48,000 on Corfu defending the fleet is sent to Istria to pick up reinforcements.

October 1686

We storm Elbruz again and take it, sending the 20,000 men on to Khorosan. Turkey offers Egypt and Bujak and we accept. When Helvetia revolts we know that war exhaustion is a problem, but we will not rest until Venice and Persia are annexed, no matter the cost. Shrehmberg takes Baluchistan from Persia and move on to Kerman. Lut (-5) Kerman and Khorosan should be the only Persian provinces to conquer (one other is a colony of 300). Col Mad Max (the grandson) and 45/8/102 board ship in the gulf of Venice to take Corfu, though Mantua (2) has not been retaken yet. Denmark (Sweden, France) DoW us, we divert 24/4 from revolt duty to take Copenhagen. Nubia (Tripoli) DoW us next. In December we capture Lut and Khorosan. We notice that Al Kharam is controlled by Oman but owned by Persia. This could be a serious problem, we are not sure. We pay Tripoli 8d for peace. On the 29th we accept a white peace from Denmark.

1687 Tax 1794d

We storm Kerman on the 30th, and we annex Persia, with Oman keeping the province it had (that explains how Spain got Croatia a few wars back). Nubia, however, has beseiged Egypt. Walls expanded in various places in the Mideast and the rest of our cash spent on infantry and officers there. We accept Ukrain from Russia for peace. Colonisation failed in Phuket. Our 44/8/102 land in Corfu and face 36/8/60, we lose 15/2/22 and the battle, but kill 20/3/29 of the enemy, and we will be back. We pay Nubia 6d for peace.

March 1687

Teutonic Order (Sweden) DoWs us, Spain joins. Prinz Eugen takes 8/11/48 into Livonia. We pay 11d to rid ourselves of Sweden. We storm Mantua and take it back, and Venice immediately pays Spain 250d for peace. We reluctantly accept a white peace with Portugal, as our troops reboard from Corfu.

June 1687

On the 19th we start to unload onto Corfu again. Russia ceded Arkhangel to Sweden. Our forces of 49/3/79 arrive on Corfu to face 12/6/29 enemy, we again lose leaving 5/5/29 defenders, with our 30/0/64 retreating. We will add more cavalry for the third attack. Our navy discovers explosive shells (naval tech 28).

1688 Tax 1940d

Ludwig awaits our orders in Terra Incognita, how odd. We order him into terra cognita for starters. Well, as Ludwig has arisen to lead our troops in the MIDDLE OF THE SAHARA we do not expect big things from him. A messenger reports that Ludwig was consumed by a huge bug, we mourn his loss. Our 31/4/64 face Venice's 5/12/23 on Corfu, we reduce the enemy to 0/7/2, and our troops to 17/1/55, but we lose yet again. We captured Livonia during the battle. Teutonic Order pays 92d for peace. We order 16/20/0 in Vienna, and walls in the mideast. Pskov and Teutonic Order sign a white peace. We discover flintlocks (land tech 33). We board 33/6/112 for our fourth try on Corfu. Venice has alternated between offering Cyprus alone and Cyprus and Crete, but appears to have only 5000 men left on Corfu. Teutonic Order gives Kouban to Russia. Our troops face 0/6/2 in Corfu, and although our morale plummeted we win, and storm the island's defenders. We finally annex Venice, and end the war.

King Leopold is quite pleased with this round of wars. We added over one million souls to our realm, and annexed Venice and Persia, two considerable countries. Egypt was well worth the war with Turkey, and the provinces from France and Russia were welcome as well. There may be great wealth in India, but there is much between Vienna and India as well, and now we own a great deal of it. Denmark seems hardly worth the effort. We have, in fact, taken so much recently that we will need to rethink our long term plan, and decide what we want to do in the next 100 years.
