I don't thin that's true I'm sure I saw someone lose GP status during war but they cant lose it while a crisis is going on.I believe you can't lose GP status if you're at war, so you'll have to wait until it finishes.
Nope, a common tactic is to occupy all of Austria to make them loose great power and add them as a sphere to annex them when forming Germany.Savolainen5 is right, the nation falling out of GP status has to be at peace for that transition to happen.
You can't diplo-annex Austria unless Hungry also exists, its one of the pre-requisites for doing that. Unless you're playing vanilla without the expansions, that might explain your point of view.
EDIT: You might be right in forcing the add sphere factor but again, that sounds like you're using an older version of the game, the latest versions still require a GP to be at peace in order for the drop in status to happen.

Who else are allied in a war as well? If Austria is allied in a war with another great power they'll remain a great power until either that second great power peaces out leaving Austria as the only great power. For example if you're fighting both France and Austria, you need to peace out France before Austria is able to drop to secondary power status. So i was playing as NGF and for some reason even if the austrians are at 9th power they dont get out of gp in this war even if it says that they will get out of gp in 19/10/1849 they still are gp in 1850 is there a way to fix this?
