Austria: Colonys?

So i'm a bit new to playing austria but i'd like to know if trying to get colonies is worth it or should i stop trying too?

Did you inherit the Netherlands? colonies matter if you can funnel their trade to a trade node you dominate so you can profit mightily off of them, otherwise they're just half useless allies that might get occupied by the super colonizers if you find yourself at war with them

I have inheirted netherlands, wondering if i should try to get them since its 1600

Easier to just take them from Spain, Portugal, etc. But yes, if you don't want to fight in Europe and control the Channel you can go into the new world. I would crush England first though.
