sounds like a good strat to me. better to have fewer, well developed and well-defended provinces than a far-flung empire which you have not the resources to defend. especially with the turks, russia, and P-L all at your doorstep.

King Of Nines you are soooooo right....

I also like the fact that the provinves are rich, have large populations and will be easier to defend (read: can raise large amount of troops quickly).

Unfortunately, they generate LARGE Rebel forces, but my main army is there, taking losses but ensuring peace......

I prefer Bohemia to be annexed to me, compared to Hungary, as they will be (by the time it comes around) fully fortified, developped with Tax collectors/Legal Counsels (!)

Saxony would be nice, but it has not happened yet... Hint Hint...

Keep up the great comments

Take care

emperor dennis, you are right as always <g>

Having France the monster on my doorstep would be a disaster, especially is allied with venice's huge armies, fleets and position...

I need a large, well-fortified, buffer..

Milan fits the bill...

Unfortunately, Alsace will be close to France, and you will see (later)...

Thx for the comments

Ok....

I though I should answer each person, so I will just put it all in 1...

Here it is...

Chapter IV:

1500 The Northern Italian Campaign....

Josef Maximillian, a Conquistador appears. The black sheep of the family, a restless soldier, we will use him as our general and explorer of lands far & unknown.. eventually....

Our Treasury goes from 241 to 360 !

Colonel Ferdinand moves to Saltzburg to join our 17,000 army.

Diplomatic:

1- Jan 25G to Brandenburg (+6)
2- April DOW to Milan
3- July 25G to Brandenburg (+29)

Venice = 5 x Merchants

April 1st, Milan is without alliances...... Hmmmmmmm....

Immediate War Declaration, Our nation is De-stabilized (-3 to STAB)
Right after, Mantua Revolts with 18,000 rebels which are crushed by our largest Army.

We decide not to engage the Army of Milan, and let them siege our beloved province of Tyrol, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
The army, 12,000 strong, moves unpposed into Tyrol

We then move to Milan our large Mantua Suppression Force, where in June, they lose 4,000 troops to attrition.
Immediately, Walls fall to 1, then 0 once the Artillery Train reaches Milan.

Please note that most of the time, the NEW Army tactics of Maximillian I are to attack without the Siege Train
i.e. Infantry & Cavalry, and have the Artillery follow separately. Just when the enemy thinks he knows our forces, reinforcements in the form of cannon , and sometimes Infantry replenishes our combat forces..

It will work wonders now, and in the future....

Back to the Front (<g>), on July 28th, Milan falls , and in August 1st, we Annex Milan to the Empire...

Now , we have the attention of the known world, and it is not pretty....

National Income goes up to 27.8/Month , even with Tyrol & Milan looted and pillaged.
Our National Military Manpower rises to 32,000 men Callable....
Better yet, we gain the Milan Army of (now) 10,000 men in our National Armed Forces.... A brand new army,
at no cost to us (with cannon to boot).... 2000 Inf, 5000 Cav & 30 pricess cannons...

We make the decision to drop National Military Readiness to 50%, to conserve resources for rebuilding.

1501 National Treasury: 256 Gold to 351 Gold

* 8000 Infantry raised in Milan

Diplomatic:

1- Portugal settles with Spain : Oporto to Spain
2- France declares War on Algiers
3- Hanse settles with Scotland, Status Quo peace.

August:

No more pillaged provinces....
Income has risen to 30.4/Month

October:

Andalusia, sent 2x merchants, result = 0

1502 National Treasury: 263 Gold to 386 Gold

Istria: We rebuild the destroyed Level 2 Fortress... cost: 101 G

Genoa, sent 2x merchants, result = 3 now...

Diplomatic:

1- White Peace Venice & Persia... what a surprise...

Our new Military Strategy has revealed itself, we will attack & conquer Bavaria in 1507, where their existing
agreement will expire....

1503 National Treasury: 259 Gold to 400 Gold

Tyrol Fortress to be upgraded to Level 2: Cost -> 101

Genoa, sent 2x merchants, result = 4 now...

1504 National Treasury: 284 Gold to 430 Gold

Tyrol Built....

Saltzburg Fortress to be upgraded to Level 2: Cost -> 101

Monthly Income now at 32.0/Month.

Genoa, sent 2x merchants, result = 5 now...
Venice, now at 5 as well....

Good news --> Greece conquers the Cyclades, 1 less province for Venice, our enemy, and 1 less island to
worry about.... Greece suffered massive attrition losses in it's 10 year war with Venice....

In October, we are surprised and heartened to hear that enthusiasm for our navy has resulted in 7x Warships
being built and donated to the crown , by grateful Merchant Companies, Combines, Citizenry and war prizes (docked)
from Istrai's Harbour. Our 1st Commodore is appointed, Commodore Zister, of the Zister Family in Istria; We cement the
loyalty of Istria, our 2nd most important province with his appointment. (Styria is 1st, the bank of the Empire)

Diplomatic:

1- The Hanse settles with Spain, giving Bremen to Spain.
2- The Golden Horde settles with Russia, giving Uralsk to it.
3- The Holden Horde settles with Ryazan, paying 191 Gold to it.

Meckeburg, sent 2x merchants, result = 2 now...

1505 National Treasury: 292 Gold to 438 Gold

Von Pappenheim, and his extended family of explorers, offers his 3x WarShips for exploration and expansion of the
Realm of Austria. Seamen beyond measure, beyond price, and we are overjoyed to have them....

OstMarch receives monies to build up it's fortress to level 2

We are happy to see the Turcs land a force of Marines at Marseilles, sieging the city ans running around french
armies , pillaging as it goes.... Unfortunately for them, 74,000 french troops are on the march, and will catch them
soon.... The whole south of France is in flames this year....

Admiral Kemal Reis, of the Turcish Navy, fights and wins several engaments with the French Fleet in the Med.

Andalusia, sent 2x merchants, result = 0 now...

15,000 Rebels in Mantua crushed, under Von Frunsberg 46,000 (!) man army....

P-L signs peace with the hanse, receiving Eastern Pomerania in return. P-L now has a port on the Baltic...

1506 National Treasury: 299 Gold to 457 Gold

Andalusia, sent 2x merchants, result = 1 now...
Meckleburg, sent 2x merchants, result = 3 now...

Raise 4000 Inf, 2000 Cav & 20 Cannons in Saltzburg... Cost = 152

1507 The Bavarian Beer-Halls Campaign and the ire of wine drinkers in Germany ! i.e. Baden & others....

National Treasury: 259 Gold to 390 Gold
Meckleburg, sent 2x merchants, result = 4 now...

France pays 91G to Algiers for peace.....

March: Raise Military Readiness to 100%, in anticipation of War.....

Our Explorer, Lord Admiral of the Explorer Fleet, Von Pappenheim discovers Senegal, a land of dusky beauties
and danger.... A Portugese trading post refues to deal with our ships, and do not let us dock... Our 3x Warship
fleet is pretty ragged by the time it turns back, sails and the ships themselves in very bad shape.....

War Aim: Bavaria's alliances are falling through, it will stand alone in July 1507... We would like to get some
monies ($) to finance our war, and get Ansbach province.... Things will not happen as we thought, as you will
see...

July: We reach Maximum realm stability again (+3), almost when we will drop again... :(
We Reach Naval Technology -2 or now we can build Caravels.....

September:

1- We are promoted to Count, a honor we should have had before, but we will accept it now, even if tardy <g>
2- Venice, sent 2x merchants, result = 5, then 4, then 5 again....
3- Meckleburg, sent 2x merchants, result = 4 now...
4- Louga is discovered, a province with Ivory and lots of friendly natives (5,000!).... Von Pappenheim receives a large
bonus from the Court.... This will become our 1st Base outside of Europe, in the outer barbaricum.....
5- Mantua revolts and is crushed.... Von Frunsberg & Milan Army ensures this....
6- Declaration of War towards Bavaria, a 2-province country in Central Germany.....

Stability falls to 0, from +3, as our realm enters an unknown age....

Josef Maximillian, our Conquistador is appointed to head one of our armies, the Milano Army in Saltzburg
which moves toward Ansbach and annihilates a 4000 man Bavarian Army, with losses of no consequence to ourselves
This army had only 6000 Infantry & 5000 cavalry....

Col Ferdinand, moves one of our main armies to bavaria, their Capitol. His army comprises 17,000 Infantry, 6000 Cav
and 80 cannons..

Bavaria offers peace for 250, we refuse....

November:

18,000 Army men from Bavaria move into Tyrol, to siege our Small Fortress there.... We avoid them...
Attrition is horrendous, at least 9% per month.....

Ansbach Walls are at -2
Bavaria's Walls are at +1

Greece has 35,000 troops in place in the Cyclades, under Padomius I.... It must fear Venice very much...
Bavaria offers White peace, we refuse....

Diplomacy:
T.O. strikes peace with P-L, Pay 78G ....
Russia DOW's Golden Horde/Astrakan, with Ryazan, Pskov, Denmark
Navarre & Algiers, Status Quo
* We send 25G to France to prevent Frane from joining the war on us.... (-185! Ouch...) They hate us....

December:

Ansbach Walls are at -5
Bavaria's Walls are at -4

1508 National Treasury: 305 Gold to 410 Gold, a substantial drop in income....

January

Ansbach Walls are at -5, still holds out...
Bavaria's Walls are at -5, and Bavaria Falls on Jan 8th 1508....

February

Ansbach Walls are at -6, and falls on Feb 22nd, 1508....

Bavaria is ours, and prostrate, conquered completely....

The King (not me, Oh no.....<g>), makes what I feel is a mistake. he decides to completely ANNEX
Bavaria, even if the war was only for Ansbach..... He explains his "orders" to us, even though it will cost
us a lot, a little bit later...

1- We "Inherit" a 14,000 man Army in Tyrol, Bavarians all....
2- 2x More Provinves, instead of 1, including one with 60,000 extra subjects for the Empire to rule..
3- Our Manpower Pool would be 42,000 Total, especially with Bavaria, their Capitol.

We Annex them , and the consequences are pretty bad....

1- our BB rating is .... 14.
2- Both Provinces are pillaged, so 1 year to wait for incomes....
3- Lots & Lots of countries hate our guts, apart from our allies...
We cannot countenance MORE expansion is Europe for a long time now....
4- We cannot drop our Military Readiness to 50%, to ensure that other countries do not DOW us...

In other news, Josef Maximillian leaves for Istria & embarcation for Colonization in Africa, specifically Louga

Also, we raise 6000 new Infantry for OstMarch, to move 18,000 total into Ansbach.

Spain receives 25G from us 3 times, raising relations from -44 to +31..... One less Superpower to worry about...

We Lose 2x Warships from the Fleet, through attrition in African & Atlantic waters... Von Pappenheim is alive
and well though which is critical....

July:

Army of Milano veterans, embark on Von PappenHeim's (3000 Inf/2000 Cav) detached 5x Ship Squadron, and leave
for Louga....
100% Naval Maintenance is approved beforehand, to improve "performance"... We are not sure it helps, we are
hopeful....

Sept:

Naval Technology -3 is reached, early guns...
Meckleburg, sent 3x merchants, result = 4 now...

The year ends with Spain making peace with Prussia for 113 Gold, and getting Cologne to submit to it as a
vassal state (breaking it's RM with Kleves).

That's it.....

Coming soon, the Aftermath of the War of the Pigs.... Where we gorged on Bavaria, and other germans
got royally pissed <g>

1509 & Later coming up....

Take care
jean

Looks like your Austria is off to a good start. A few hints if I may (Osterreich is my fave to play after all!).

-USE Frundsberg, he is one of the best generals anywhere at this time period. He has a great habit of cutting down enemy numbers, and taking very little losses. Give him 50 cannons, and no minimal or small fortress last much more than a month.

-Pol-Lit and Turks might seem bad now, but watch the French closely. All too often they stab me in the back later on in the game. (in one I'm playing now, I gave Austria the whole Netherlands, and annexed France militarily in 1504, it only took all the money for 6 or so years ;))

-I know you want to stay world-oriented, but early on in the game (i.e. before Protestantism), be the diplo-mat, and swallow up souther Germany while you can.

-Mountain Forts! The AI loves Tyrol and Styria, always keep those forts at max, and you can just watch while they hurl themselves and starve to death.

I think that's it, gl, and try not to let Hungary lose too much to the turks! :)

I can only second the advice of the Crimson Praetorian: Always keep an eye on the French! Nothing good has ever come from France (well, at least for the Habsburgs, during that time period;) ), and with their ability to field large, technically advanced armies, they are a very dangerous foe.
Nice additions to the Austrian Empire, I must say, but I guess both conquests come at a price, not counting the dreadful rise of the BB.
Especially conquering Milan is like continously dangling bait at the French. If they are allied with Savoy (which they usually are), they have, in case of war, direct access to Milan, and you can bet on their King sending hoardes of moustachioned, garlic-loving frogs to claim Milan for his crown. The only way to counter that might be trying to drive a wedge between Savoy and France, or, if that fails, attrition warfare, though that's not easy, what with Milan supporting enemy troops by the tens of thousands. Perhaps temporarily sacrificing Milan, then letting the French army throw itself against the Tyrolean/Styrian fortresses, is a way to solve this as well.
I'm looking forward to read how you managed to solve that French Dilemma!
:)

WildWolf....

Yes , Frundsberg is quite incredible, I could not have done Mantua, then I think either venice or Istria without him

he is QUITE the gemeral...

Too late now about Germany, we are in the 1550's in the game...And only Saxony loves us...

France IS my major concern, since by the 1550's, I have a BB of... 20

I send them money by the 25G at a time, 2-3 times a a year...

Eventually, I think I will try allying with them...

Milan is a problem, but they have not bothered me yet...

I am more afraid for MY Alsace at the french border, as you will see later..

Agreed boys on Tyrol & Styria/Istria, those mountain forts are up to snuff ! <g>

Soon, and update coming..

Take care
Thanks for the kind comments, at least SOME people are reading this

your revolt risk drops by 1% for every 10 years you control the province. so in 30 years the revolt risk will be gone. then you don't have to worry about having to garrison troops there.

as for your explorer, consider making a few more warships and adding them to the fleet. i normally add at least 2 ships to any explorer fleet, making at least 5 ships in the fleet. this generally ensures that you won't lost the explorer to attrition. until you can get a coastal african port, attrition will be a problem.

as for the french, you might want to consider an alliance with spain. that might make the french think twice about attacking you. with you on one border and spain on the other, if they do attack, you can just bumrush them and steal provinces, then settle for peace. with their provinces in hand, they're certain to attack you again. :D free DOW... and no BB.

Yes , King, I allied with Spain later, once they dropped out of their alliance with whoever...

I will probably ally soon with France, once they drop out....

I prefer to kep my enemies closer (<g>), and actually dislike Spain's Colonial landgrab right now...

Here is an small update, Years 1509 to 1512 (end), before the German war !

----------------

1509 The Interregnum Period, before the Vengeance Wars.......

Our Treasury goes from 218 to 365 ! Economy = 34G/Month

Diplomatic:

1- Jan 25G to Spain (+51)
2- Venice DOW's Ragusa... As always, T.O. , Prussia & the Hanse join Venice.
3- June 25G to Spain (+60)

7000 Ragusa troops move to Illyria.... Many, many will die , here in these cold mountains...

Meckleburg = 3 x Merchants, 0 Result, we are at 4 here now...

Our expensive and massive expedition arrives at Goree Island, with his 5x Warships & 5000 men...
Over 500 die on the voyage, only 4,500 disembark in Africa, at LOUGA.
Since there is no harbour built yet, the ships immediately leave for Istria BASE ASAP.

---> we send 100 brave souls to colonize Louga, at a cost of 102 Gold.... (48% chance)

July:

Ansback Rebellion, We lose 1000 troops...

Sept: 2% Inflation.

All Maintenance has been dropped to 50%, it seems we can attempt to save on these costs for a short time...

Dec:

Stability in the Realm back up to +3..

1510 National Treasury: 188Gold to 357 Gold, one of our best years yet.

Diplomatic:

1- 25G to France (-178), and over the next 12x months we do in total 6x Times, to a relation of... -83

Our colonists never arrive at destination, we lose our people and investment.....
In addition to this, we lose....... 3x warships in our scout fleet, fully 30% of our Navy in 1 voyage.... !
This was expensive for our Realm.

We attempt to do so again, even though some of our colonists are afraid...102G spent....

In may, we reach something we had never thought would happen....
We have 3x Monopolies in place ! We manage to send 3x merchants to venice as well.

June

Milan revolts, 21K rebels, crsuhed by Von Frundsberg.

October 15th .... A new Era has begun...

* Our New Colony of New Landenburg, (Louga) is founded, with 100 Population....
* 3x Ships leave from Istria to Louga Harbour, to use as a base for exploration. Von Pappenheim, Commanding.

November:

Russia DOW's Golden Horder, with Ryazan, Pkskov & Denmark, again.

December:

We send merchants in december to attempt to grab monopolies in the next year.. We usually lose them over the start
of the next year but for end of year, we have some monopolies (esp. Venice)

1511 National Treasury: 172 Gold to 342 Gold Economy : 37.1/Month.

New Landenburg Colony ... cost: 92 G, 53%.... We lose our 3rd expedition, never to be seen again...
We send another , which arrives in October... Pop of Louga now @ 199 souls.

Venice, send 3x merchants, result = 4 now... We lose the whole year's crop of new merchants...

Diplomatic:

1- 25G to France once, then twice... Relations at -57 now...
2- In July, Golden Horde is fully Annexed by Russia.

April:

Land Technology - 5 is reached, the early Arquebus !
Ansback, in the old Bavarian lands revolts, and captures the Fortress....

--> We crush the rebels, and bring up 80 Guns to help the siege, from Bavarian army. We lose
a massive 5000 troops in putting down the rebellion....

July:

Infrastructure Level 3 is reached.... We can build Chief Judges in our provinces.

Dec:

Astrackan sues for peace with Russia, Pays 52.

1512 National Treasury: 112Gold to 268 Gold ... Much lower this year, probably due to Merchant Losses.

New Landenburg--> Sent another Colonist, Cost : 93G, 53% Chance. --> Success in july !
--> Pop = 299 Souls

Feb: Promoted to Marquis ! About Time.... <g>
March: Captured Ansback back, and hanged the rebel leaders & city fathers responsible.
Nov: 25G to France, -53 now....

Genoa, sent 2x merchants, result = 4 now...
Venice, sent 3x merchants, result = 4 now...

Explorations: Gambia & Senegal discovered.

Coming soon, the Aftermath of the War of the Pigs.... The Baden/German Princes War !

1513 & Later coming up....

Take care

one thing i hate about establishing colonies in africa is the negative growth rate. until you get the colony pop. to 1000 or more, the growth rate will always be -10% or so, sometimes higher. normally i place TP's in africa before i place colonies. that way, instead of having 599 and having to send an extra colonist to assimilate the natives (assuming there are natives, of course), you will have 609 and thus assimilate any natives. the income from those ivory provinces in africa should boost your economy for the coming wars. :D

A new Installment ! before I start...

King of Nines....

Agreed, I should have sent a TP to Louga first, I had to pay 100 Gold for 95-96 colonists, whereas it would have been better to lose 4-5 people from a TP...

I will remember that .. Thanks

1513 The German Vengeance Wars.......

Genoa = 2 x Merchants, 1 Result, we are at 5 here now...

1- Chief Judge appointed in Milan Cost: 102 D
2- New landenburg, we send another 100 brave souls: Cost 89D/58% Chance. Success in May --> Pop: 398 now....
Special Note, they are 5000 natives in this province which will be added when Pop >600 and we are in control of it at that point. This will be a Major Colonial Province, producing Ivory (!! $$)

Ragusa settles with Prussia, Pays 31 D .

February: Baden, probably very angry with us we annexed Bavaria, declares War on us ! While we were making progress with France and placating them, the German princes had enough and decided to settle the issue(s) themselves... We were not ready, but we will respond...

Order of Battling Countries:
** Baden, Thuringen, Wurtemburg, Palatinat & Hessen engage us, almost all send troops to Alsace, our Westernmost province.... BTW, Baden broke their RM with us, that must have hurt their stability..... Actually, their stability went from +3 to -2... Ouch !
** Our Allies join in, and what a help (and a bit of a hindrance) they are.. Bohemia, Hungary & Saxony join in the fun. Saxony's army is huge, they have been building up for a while.... We had NOT asked anyone to join in Wars of Aggression for us since the Venetian War in 1497. They had almost 20 years to prepare themselves, and they probably saved us from further damage.

Due to records being lost in this war, only sketchy information is available, and will be related as best we can do so.

1- Our Alsatian Army fights 2x Battles with over 5 armies, most of them more advanced technologically than us. No General commands them, so local officers do their best. The Battle starts with 18,000 Palatinat Troops engaging our Alsace Army.... While we are winning,
4x smaller armies join in, including the fearsome Hessian Army, and we finally lose and retreat to Pfaltz in the Palatinat. We killed over 15,000 Germans, but this army is shattered for now Hessians siege our Level 2 Fortress in Alsace.

Our Shattered Army of Alsace , morale still weak, demolishes a newly raised 5000 man Pflatz Army. The remnants flee to Mainz, where we follow and destroy them utterly.

2- At the same time (March), Col Ferdinand with 22,000 Troops, & 10,000 reinforcements from Tyrol besieges and invests it by September, the Wurtemburg Fortress & Province. March to September. Unfortunately, Saxony signs a separate peace once their army is larger than ours and get 190 D for their troubles... We are still at war with Wurtemburg & Saxony got our "blood" money for our efforts... We are NOT pleased.

3- Col Barnow's Army, in an independant command, sieges & captures Thuringen by June 6th ! (Note: Lost my specific information on them, too many happening at once...) One done, in July, this forces joins up the recovering but shattered Alsace Army in Mainz, and sieges Mainz Province...

4- Col Ferdinand Army, with losses from Wurtemburg leaves for Baden after Saxony's betrayal. We order an immediate assault and manage to capture Baden, the leader of the alliance that attacked us...
They sue for peace, White peace, we refuse...

Alsace still being sieged by Hessians (and others)....

5- 9000 Palatinat troops leave Alsace siege and attack us in Mainz, their non-capitol province. We destroy them utterly, we lose 4000 + troops.

6- Reinforcements from Hessia routs our Alsace Army (now down to 13,000) and they flwee towards Baden (which we own , temporarily) to rest & recuperate their courage .... <g>

7- K.u.K. Armee, under Col. Ferdinand , one of our more illustrous and well known armies, joins the defeated remnants of Alsace's Army in Baden. A select force of veterans is split off and moves towards mainz, to restart the interrupted siege. Again the Infantry & Cavalry are sent first, with the cannons following behind. 15,000 Inf, 3000 Cav & 60 Cannons move to Mainz.

Pls note that: Alsace's Siege is still going strong, Walls @ +5; Attrition on enemy troops in Alsace destroys 7-10% of the total enemy army a MONTH !.....
Wurtemburg is still free to annoy us, as it is now empty of our troops after Saxony's betrayal.

8- In less than 3 months, the Mainz Walls are at -5, the castle falling quickly. On Oct 27th, Mainz falls to Col Ferdinand, an incredible commander.

9- Ferdinand moves the K.u.K. Armee to Pfaltz, to begin the siege. Same two-stage move to Pfaltz, and in no time, the Walls are at -1, with no attrition to our troops.

While this has happened, on Sept 1st, Oct 27th, Baden offers White Peace, which we refuse. Our Armies are so devastated that we will attempt to extract REPARATIONS as well as MAINZ from the Palatinat, the only 2-province state that attacked us. (i.e. No more Annexations).

Some Wars are started in the East, we do not pay attention at this time.

On Dec 20th, Pfaltz falls to Col. Ferdinand....

On Dec 25th, (it's Christmas ! <g>), We offer Peace to the Palatinat for 250G & Mainz. They Accept ! We receive only 123 Ducats, so they shortchange us.

At the same time, We offer Peace to Wurtemburg... We can Annex them, we ask for 500 G. They accept and we get only 139 ducats.

They're is Great Rejoicing in the land. We were attacked by surprise and we turned the tables on the German Princes and their cowardly alliance... <g>

1514 National Treasury: 392 (!) Gold to 550 Gold, one of our best years yet. (Most of it, War Reparations)

Baden accepts Peace with us, we ask for 500 & receive 62, the short-changers....

Only Thuringen refuses to settle with us, and is finally conquered by Hungary.. Hungary receives 103 Ducats to leave.

Feb 1st: We are promoted to Duke of the Realm, and we ask for Bavaria to be our new Home Castle. We like the beer... <g>

We reorganize the Army and it's remnants:

1- The Alsace Defenders, now in Bavaria, and with no way to rehoin their land, recruit 9000 Infantry join up with other remnants, and are now 29,000 Strong.

2- Mainz Army builds 50 Cannons at a cost of 140 D.

3- In Mainz as well, we build up the Fortress there to level 2, at a cost of 103.

4- Military Readiness dropped to 50%, to conserve funds and rebuild armies....

New Landenburg, We send another colonist for 88 D (63%).... Success in Sept, Pop is now 498 Austrian souls in Africa.

Venice Merchants = 4
Military Manpower Pool: 44 (!), Double 1497's.....

Diplomatic:

1- 25G to Bohemia (+200 Rel)

Aftermath of the War for Hungary & Bohemia.
* Relatively cash rich, theyr are fortifying their realms and Appointing officials left & right.
* Saxony is rich as well, having received payments from it's enemies (in separate peaces), and has had massive battles with Hessen armies with it's King Mauritz. Mauritz receives 135D for settling Peace with Hessen.

1515

New Landenburg Colony ... cost: 86 G, 68%.... Success in August Pop of Louga now @ 597 souls.

Venice, send 3x merchants, result = 3 now... We lose again the whole year's crop of new merchants... Genoa = 3 by end of year....... Our Merchants are having a disastrous year....

Diplomatic:

1- 25G to Spain & France once, Relations at +73 & -38 now...
2- Russia receives Orenburg & 69 D for peace with Astrakahn
3- Russia receives Lugansk & 35 D for peace with Crimea. A SuperPower in the East is emerging....
4- Mughal Empire, a powerful muslim empire in the East humbles the mighty Persian Empire and gets Mekran & Baluchistan..... Persia must be livid right now !

April - Dec:

1- The Reformation hits Europe, a reaction against the excesses of the Pope and his servants on earth... We knew it would happen, now war will result we are sure....

2- Milan revolts, and captures the Fortress.... We crush the revolt, lose 2000 troops and siege it. It is recaptured by the end of the Year, but the province is pillaged

3- Ansback revolts, it is crushed, but the Fortress holds out till Jan 1516, and the province is pillaged...

4- Mantua revolts, it is crushed, but we lose 2000 Austrian troops....

--> We crush the rebels, and bring up 80 Guns to help the siege, from Bavarian army. We lose a massive 5000 troops in putting down the rebellion....

1516 National Treasury: 220Gold to 358 Gold ... Much lower this year, probably due to Merchant Losses.

New Landenburg --> Sent another Colonist, Cost : 93G, 80% Chance. --> Success in May ! --> Pop = 696 Austrians + 5000 Natives : We have a base in Africa with 5,696 Population !
--> 9G Taxes/ 26G trade.

We appoint a Legal Counsel in Bavaria (C = 103 D).

Economy = 35/Month, lower than in the past... Our Merchant efforts are so disastrous, we have lost much in the near past.....

In August, a Massive War among Muslim countries begins, with about 7-8 countries on both sides.... It is the present eternal War between Turkey and the Mamelukes....

We send 3x Merchants to Venice, Venice = 4 (gain of +1)

1517 National Treasury: 172Gold to 354 Gold

Naval Technology 4 is reached, Metal cannonballs for our Ship Cannons....

May: In "South America", the land that seems to belong to the Portugese: Tiracambu Discovered, 1500 natives with Low aggressiveness.....

In Central Europe, an Arms race seems underway.... Baden, Wurtemburg and Saxony (48,000 men) are building troops as fast as they can be recruited.....

Sept: We renew our RM with saxony.

1518 and later, coming up.....

Take care everyone

Jean
