Hey guys,

I was wondering if u'd allow a kiwi to join ur game, seeing that u guys have the closest timezone to my own. I'm quite the noobie though, this would be my first multiplayer.

Also if you'll have me I'd like to know what times u guys play for (I think 7est in Australia is 9pm in Auckland), and if my broadband will be enough so that I don't lag behind (256kb/sec download 128kb/sec upload).

Cheers

This week 6pm for setup and discussion

Proposed Sunday(7pm-11pm)....all discussion for this game to be put in this thread including next session etc. So far teams and rules are as follows:

Axis
Germany: Munster
Italy: Albatross
Japan:Major Ball
Hungary: Ric from NZ
Romania: Joel

Allies
UK: Mike
USA: Nolan
France: Omni
Russia: Gezeder
Canada:
Australia: Bumble bee

No human China

No Wildcards this game...countries as per above list

HOUSE RULES Known bugs/exploits:

Dont serial build Province upgrades, rockets,aa, IC etc as version 1.2 has not quite fixed this bug apparaently.

No use of 'ghost' units for capturing enemy provinces etc. No phoney wars (i.e. DOWing but not attacking).

Annexation (or puppeting) must be done as soon as possible.

Axis are not allowed to DOW nations under attack from the USSR.

No evacuating the French army from France without a fight, generally nothing that is and exploit and you yourself would consider gamey.

Germany may not attack France till after March 1940 unless the Allies have brought the low countries into their alliance , enters Spain or attacks a German province from land.

Alliances: Italy and Japan may join the Axis whenever they choose to. Only historical alliances for the "Big 6" (USA can only join Allies, Italy and Japan can only join Axis, USSR can not join Allies or Axis etc). Any human minor country may join Axis or Allies alliance at anytime they choose.

Political actions:
You may not influence(you may influnce your own allies or future allies) or puppet a nation controlled by a human player.

The UK may not DOW Japan (this leads to the USA being able to join, see below).

Axis nations may not DOW USSR puppets or other Commintern countries, they must DOW the USSR itself.

War in Europe starts with Danzig event however if German belligerence allows it Allies may DOW.

If Germany offers Russia full pact wether accepted or not Russia may not DOW on Germany till 1st January 1942.

If Germany does not offer full pact Russia may DOW anytime. Italy may Join war anytime after Paris has fallen(If Italy attacks a minor Guaranteed by a major the may have war declared on them).

Italy may only DOW a minor after sept 39 just in case and AI coutry DOW them).

Japan may enter Axis alliance at anytime but must DOW on the USA also.

With a human French player Allies may not take military control of Poland.

No one may interfere with the Spanish Civil war by DOW or Allying and Spain may not have DOW on them or brought into any alliance till after France has fallen.

Trade agreements:

Allies and the USSR aren't allowed to break any starting trade agreements with Axis humans unless at war with this nation or through events (US oil embargo).

No economic warfare....UK,USSR and USA may not trade for rares in the first month of the game. They can however trade them away.

No economic warfare(ie trading for all rares or oil when not needed)

USA joining the war: The USA may not manually move the intervention slider. USA may not DOW on Japan before 1st January 1942 but may DOW on Germany if the Belligerence level of Germany allows it.

Nuclear weapons: No nukes before 1945

Loading between sessions: Feel free to load up your own nation (and any puppets you control) and ponder your strategic situation between sessions. It is however not allowed to open up other player's nations.

Please be prompt and in vnet at least 5 minutes before start of game as sessions will only be once a week and only for 4 hours unless agreed by all for earlier start or later finish. If you cannot commit please dont start as it affects a lot of people.

Anyone who feels they cannot make regular Sunday game is better of to coop with someone

I think we need a rule about releasing puppets. Ie either to stuff up an invasion or dick with events like France releasing Vietnam as a Puppet. Its just dicking with realitywith the power offoresight and isnt in the spirit of the game :(

I disagree -- it is no more 'dicking with reality' than Spain allying with Germany just after the SCW.

1. Puppeting is a legitimate part of the game -- I note that Italy puppeted a colony in Africa before me - I puppeted 2 colonies (very poor African ones) and 1 in Asia, out of a possible 16!

2. If I had wanted to 'stuff up an invasion', I would hardly have overlooked releasing my North Africa colonies (Morocco, Tunisia and Algiers!)

3. Germany (amongst others) also has the option to liberate and then puppet Flanders, Wallonia, Denmark, Ukraine etc. after conquest.

4. I have also spoken to other experienced players across the forum - they have advised me that puppeting is not a cheat.

So.......any other comments?!?!?
Cheers ;) ;)

I dissagree also....it has all sorts of effects for allies as well. French Allies can not access without permission and they dont give it easy. As well as that any resources there dont go to major power cause the puppets dont have convoy system to transfer them to their master. Also whoever conquers them gets more IC than they normally would.

So long as you can stay up real late sundays i'm guessing the only issue would be lag.....

Does anyone know if NZ is a deal breaker, guys? (or girl!)

Well that is a topic I wish to discuss with the group. I feel the balance of the game is severely affected by an invasion of France before the end of March 1940. The Germans dont have the same problem as the French because they can easily structure their builds to wipe out the French by the end of 1939. The French economy needs more time and even then the germans will push them aside easily.

I propose a house rule that germany may not attack France till any time after March 1940 unless the Allies have brought the low countries into their alliance , enters Spain or attacks a German province from land.

Any other oponions?

Sounds like all the nations that are listed that would probably suit easing me in are taken. I may drop in to V-net anyway on Sunday though. The only options are Axis nations I have zero familiarity with, so I guess if no-one minds me making a balls up of one of them I could try.

Out of curiousity, what speed are we aiming to move along at with this many players?

Joel..why dont I slot you in as Hungary or Romania mate? Low hassle country you dont have to sit at your PC every minute and you get the feel for it. As per our house rules you can ally with germany whenever you like.

Your connection should be ok....We have a vacancy for 1 more Axis player for our sunday game. Its a small axis minor in Hungary and very good to learn with seeing you are new to MP. If you are available try and be in vnet 6pm sunday Melbourne time and confirm in this thread. You also need to alter a file to help with the reinforcement but and you will find instructions in this thread.

Some advice for the newer guys:

Units invovlved in a combat may retreat onto ships in an adjacent sea zone rather than a vacant land province. You just need to give the order manually before they retreat on auto and right click the sea zone where your transports are.

For invasions never use more than 3 units for an invasion no matter how big the enemy stack is. You suffer a -10% penalty each unit over 3 even for marines. I recently attacked with 12 divisions and had a -99% against me. Better to send in consecutive waves of 3 with naval support. If the defender has 9 divisions on the beachs you need lots of waves (maybe 6 or 7) to win the battle with lots of air and shore bombardment.
