Can you offload some of the work to an AI or do you need to do most stuff manually?
Our civilian shipping lines have enough ships that I can just send life-support infrastructure to some semi-habitable planet or moon and the civilian shipping line will start shipping in colonists without being specifically ordered to. I can also set up contracts, offering money in return for somebody shipping item A from planet B to destination C.

The Freighters are still en-route to the Alpha Centauri system, carrying life-support infrastructure to set up the colonies. So no colonists have arrived yet.

I have, however, managed to scrape up enough Freighters to have five of them servicing each of the five colony sites. So once it starts, all five will be growing at once.

I'm planning to eventually have two Fighter bases in the Alpha Centauri system, because it's a double star with at least one habitable planet orbiting each star... so we'll want one base guarding each planetary system.

Just caught up after returning from a Holiday. Good to see things progressing so nicely. Also, glad to see the first laser armed cruisers enter service. I may request command of one for my next life. :)
Sure. That's both of the first batch spoken for... but I'll keep building them as long as a demand exists. I should probably also design some Gauss PD Cruisers that can keep formation with them.

That could be done. A new class of scout-ships with ultra-long-range sensor drones might be useful, too. When our new level of engine tech (currently being researched) is finished, I'll look into it.

I have designed a Comet-class Area Defense Cruiser, intended to accompany our Battlecruiser Gunships and defend them from missile attack.

I would certainly give any suggestions a fair hearing. Our techs are approaching the level required for MIRVs and other "smart" weapons (in-game MIRVs must be "smart" because the targeting doesn't carry over when the warheads separate from the bus)... although we are probably a couple of tech levels short of a proper "bang", since homing and retargeting circuits reduce the payload that a missile can carry.

So, as sector governor I have assembled some of the craziest smartest minds in the galaxy. Here are some of the suggestions that gathered some consensus in that meeting:

  1. Mirror Cruisers, equipped with a dish-like reflective surface, to solve the lack of range of our laser systems and minimize dispersion while keeping our laser gunships at a safe range.
  2. Decoy ships with an enhanced radar cross-section and thermal signature, to attract missile locks and bring the missiles straight into our PD fields
  3. Unmanned fighter-drones with EMP bombs to disable systems of large enemy ships (perhaps usable in conjunction with boarding parties to conquer alien craft)
  4. Fake missiles to draw out and exhaust PD fire.
  5. Comet-based nuclear missile silos, taking advantage of comet trajectories to fire them point-blank at unsuspecting enemies.
  6. A special cruiser-wreck with hidden scan-proof compartments for 10 Marine Divisions, to be deployed with tractor beams and left behind when encountering an enemy with superior firepower (beware of Greeks and their gifts)

2. Aka Rock class ships - not sure we have any, but it works.
3. Don't think EMP bombs exist in this game. Or unmanned drones, for that matter.
