My vote as sector governor is currently undecided. If you would like to... persuade me of the merits of either proposal, there are some.. Mercassium mining operations that could use some generous donations.

We are financing 120 research labs plus a full line of shipyard builds, and are still making more than +100 megabucks per day, with over a million in the bank. Finances will not be a problem for the foreseeable future.

Minerals are a different matter. The Mercassium ores on Earth were exhausted years ago, and three more minerals will run out within the next three years. Naturally, opening and developing new mining sites is our current top priority.

The balance of opinion seems to favor an immediate attack on the neighboring precursors, so our training squadrons are being recalled and overhauled, and the crews given shore leave in preparation for the operation.

Our current load-out of obsolete missiles will be swapped with modern missiles before we sortie.

Do the Awacs need missles? Don't we have specialized ships for that?
We do, but with standardized engine sizes (to reduce our research overhead) all vessels need to stick to certain standardized total masses (generally speaking, multiples of 2500 tons), or their speeds will not be uniform. So after accounting for sensors, there was enough slack in the mass-budget to hang a few AMMs on the AWACS. Extra AMMs never hurt, since they further improve our interlocked PD fire.

Our eighth, ninth and tenth (!) Carriers have been launched, only five days after the AWACS were completed. We now have a very large fleet... so large that even if we are ambushed on the jump point at point blank range while entering the Precursor system, we should still be able to shoot our way out of the ambush.

So... who wants one? Two AWACS, ten Carriers, six Aircraft ferries, sixteen Fighter squadrons, countless escorts (at least two dozen)...

Am I eligible for carrier command?
You are currently a Fighter pilot, so yes. Fighter pilots normally advance either to Squadron command or to Carrier command.

Would you rather have a Squadron of Fighters, or a Carrier? Air Superiority or Strike Fighter? (we have 12 Strike squadrons and 4 A/S squadrons, loaded on board 10 Carriers and 6 Aircraft Ferries).

Hmmm actually I think I'll go for command of one of the Strike Squadrons. I know I wanted to name a squadron "Mavericks" before but if possible I'd like to name the squadron "Blue Blasters" after my favorite Vietnam-era attack squadron, VA-34 :D

Squadron name: 'Snake Eyes'.
Done.

We are about ready to go!

Our space marines are loading into their transports, and the drop-ships are still in overhaul... but they will be ready by the time we have won the space-battle and are ready to assault the planet.

Since we are using a jump tender, should I launch the fighters BEFORE transiting the jump point... so that if the Precursors have a jump point ambush set up and waiting for us, at least we won't be caught with our fighters inside the hangars?

We have advanced close enough to the Ross 154 jump point to overlap it with our active sensors, and we can see that this side of the jump point, at least, is clear of enemy. They might be waiting for us just beyond the jump, of course.

BCe5uqU.jpg

We had earlier constructed a Gate on the near side of the jump point, since our Tugs are too massive to use the Jump Tender.
