In this situation it wouldn't have been worth it, no.
In fact, I'm not sure an armoured fuel tank makes sense for a geoscout at all. Even an armoured one (for dealing with minefields) with a hyperdrive (for running away really fast and/or exploring very large systems).

For a warship, however, it seems odd to me you can armour your ammunition storage, and add extra "HTK" to many components, but not the fuel tanks.

I haven't played a new game with 6.2 yet, but my strategy for scouts prior to 6.0 was to always give them the best (fastest) engines using the highest researched level of thermal reduction tech. Combined with excellent thermal sensors, my scouts were usually able to detect enemy ships on thermals before they themselves could be spotted and could then turn around and head out of the system. Don't know if this is a valid tactic with the new engine updates in 6.x though.

Not really applicable in our case, since this is a conventional start game, our engines are still very primitive, we have no thermal suppression at all, and only the lowest level of Thermal sensors.

At high tech levels, a combination of Thermal Suppression and Cloaking will make your scouts almost undetectable from any appreciable distance.

Exploration of the jump point in the Epsilon Eridani system has led to the star system of 40 Eridani. It is a triple-star system, with a K1-V primary somewhat smaller and dimmer than Sol, and a tight binary pair consisting of an M4-V Red Dwarf and a D4-VII White Dwarf circling the primary in a distant orbit about 70 b-km away. The central star has two Mars-like planets, while the distant Red Dwarf has a class-0.34 Nitrogen/Oxygen water-world... by far the most habitable world so far discovered. Unfortunately, its position about 70 b-km out from the jump point... more than ten times the distance from Sol to Pluto... renders it impractical even to survey, let alone to colonize. Even a ship traveling at 10,000 kps (which is far beyond our current capability) would require months to reach it, and months to return.

In total, the system contains five planetoids, five terrestrial-sized planets, one gas giant, one large and thirty-one small moons and six comets. Out of that total, three of the planetoids, three of the terrestrial planets (including the two Mars-like worlds), two small moons and the six comets all circle the central star. Everything else is beyond our current ship's operational radius.

Oh well, if there's enough free positions in the Space Force, I guess my son or nephew could join it, and kick some cybernetic ass someday in the next decades.

Otherwise, pick some other office for my replacement GaiusCC - maybe not a scout, this time, since I think my family will stay far from these for the next century :D

The Myrmidons stand ready to be the mailed fist of the Enterprise; but we can understand waiting for PD, battle management and maybe a warship or two before we avenge GaiusC!

Avenge? We are still talking about the Dominican Republic (DomRep in short), so it should be sufficient to penetrate their territory with sex tourists. :)

After seeing how our opponents behaved in combat, it would be nice to get another level of Engine tech, too. As soon as they turned on their active sensors, all three ships headed directly away from us, to open the range. The fastest of them was moving at 10,000 kps... 25% faster than our current Fighters. In other words... our Fighters wouldn't even be able to reach an attack position against that vessel, if it decided to stand off beyond our range. This is particularly unsettling, given that we KNOW that the opponents are fielding an AMM-PD vessel which fires 62,500 kps salvos of 69 size-1 missiles at a time... fully capable of killing our Fighters from stand-off distances.

Seriously, I completely understand we are in no way shape or form ready to take the fight to the prix at this time. They can't come to us so by all means let us explore other starlanes and continue to tech up.

Yeah, I would feel more confident with a few Rocks... but I won't over-rule the council if they consider it an "unworthy" tactic.

I think they are a beautiful, elegant solution that is completely believable given the tech we are working with and the extreme distances between ships. As long as they 'look' like a warship on long range scanners, why wouldn't an enemy fire at them. Sure, a human opponent would catch on, but still wouldn't know for sure whether they are decoys or proper warships. I think they have considerable precedent in modern naval warfare (towed decoys, noisemakers) and in the fiction most appropriate to Aurora (Honorverse, Starfire).

Yes, and sort-of like bird / dragon things.

Scientist Randakar has completed his research on Assault Infantry Battalions, and has begun a project to create Brigade HQ units.

I feel like it's a bit of an AI exploit myself, since the AI is never going to figure out that we're throwing monster decoys at them that won't fire back. Rather, I'd be in favour of a more conventional battle scenario, even if we need to tech up a lot to do it.

That, of course, is as a player. As commander of the ESN Courageous, I'm in favour of anything that will keep my pilots alive and kicking xeno tuchus for as long as we have targets, and am putting in a strongly-worded request to command asking for better, faster, and stronger fighters to bring the fight to our enemy.

Was Communication attempted and if so do we know how these look?
We know they're xeno scum who just killed 42 of our finest. As far as the military is concerned, that's all we need know.

Well... let's have a vote on the Rock issue: yes or no.

Also on Commercial (unarmed) vs Military (armed) Rocks.

No to civilian rocks.

If you wan't to make them Military, they are warships and fair game.

And I have no problems with killing these. Just wanted to know if we should call them something else than Prix - And looks like we can call them Space Dragons... ;)

Against Rocks.

Edit. To clarify, I am against Rocks only because I believe they will make fights too easy. I think we "shouldn't" be able to defeat Prix with such tech deficit. Of course we possibly could, but that would mean there wouldn't be any challange to game later, when we will catch up with techs and that remove all excitement from game.

True... they are just heavily armored, lightly armed warships. Vice-Admiral Edzako is fleet C-in-C, though.

Here are our opponents:
