Exploration of the jump point in the Epsilon Eridani system has led to the star system of 40 Eridani. It is a triple-star system, with a K1-V primary somewhat smaller and dimmer than Sol, and a tight binary pair consisting of an M4-V Red Dwarf and a D4-VII White Dwarf circling the primary in a distant orbit about 70 b-km away. The central star has two Mars-like planets, while the distant Red Dwarf has a class-0.34 Nitrogen/Oxygen water-world... by far the most habitable world so far discovered. Unfortunately, its position about 70 b-km out from the jump point... more than ten times the distance from Sol to Pluto... renders it impractical even to survey, let alone to colonize. Even a ship traveling at 10,000 kps (which is far beyond our current capability) would require months to reach it, and months to return.
In total, the system contains five planetoids, five terrestrial-sized planets, one gas giant, one large and thirty-one small moons and six comets. Out of that total, three of the planetoids, three of the terrestrial planets (including the two Mars-like worlds), two small moons and the six comets all circle the central star. Everything else is beyond our current ship's operational radius.
