Look what happened when Sid Meier tried to branch off into Space with the Civilization series, it was not very good and the Civilization 5 was still superior.

When Sid Meier branched off into space he created Alpha Centauri. One of the best Sid Meier games to date and a cult classic. The second attempt was a failure, true, but your post is at the moment saying that Alpha Centauri was "not very good". ;)

Second! But since Alpha Centaury, there is no game so great that changed the Space Strategy genre. Would Paradox try to tackle this, making a 'game changer' space strategy?

Guess it's quite obvious he meant Augustus began development before those games were announced, not started upon. At least that makes more sense for the arguement.

Nope, like I said before, some of those games were announced, one even launched before Augustus began development.

In any case, 3 and 7 are numbers smelling Rome all the way to the North Pole. :)

753 BC Rome is founded (7 and 3 in this vital number for Rome).
3 United tribes built out Rome on the 7 hills.
Rome had 7 kings, of them 3 were Etruscan kings
They fought 3 punic wars, and Hannibal led 37 elephants over the Alps
7 claims to be the 3rd Rome (Papal States, HRE, Austria, Ottomans, Russia, United Italy, Fascist Italy)
3rd month representing Mars, the God of the city Rome, 7th month representing Julius Ceaser the killer of the Republic, and the most famous roman ever.

I've been playing a lot of Gal Civ III. It is a fun, addictive but deeply flawed game. The game-play is so un-fulfilling. Good thing I'm a founder, because it will take at least 2 expansions to make it truly a stand out.

Well, the Gal Civ III's devs said that they plan to add much more in upcoming expansions, such as politics and a much deeper population mechanic. But I agree that currently, the game isn't impressive and still isn't very solid, specially as I start to get extremely annoying freezes as the game advances. It will get better in the future.

As for Endless Space 2, we have yet to see what it has to offer, but I'm confident Paradox will be able to compete with it.

You can find so many meanings for this two numbers...

I think this will be the last time Paradox play this game with their fans, where they give clues and we all try to guess what the game is.

Why?

Well, up until probably this year, games were always historically based. A field day for the history buffs.

Now, most likely this year there will be a change, a non-historically based game possibly. I read dissention, unhappiness, bitterness and general dissatisfaction in the posts here, especially today, my own posts among them.

I think because things are not so certain anymore, the way they generally were before, guys don't know what to expect and with long-awaited games not appearing again, for another year, it just causes too much grief.

No, I cannot see Paradox doing this again.

This is starting to look a lot like 23 nonsense.
Jordan is awesome, but I grew up with #11 Isiah and the Pistons. That said, I can get on the bandwagon!

edit -
No, I cannot see Paradox doing this again.
We'll see. If they pull this off and HoI4 is a hit, they will have four successful titles with their own unique twists. Not branching out has its own risks.

What do 3 and 7 have to do with space? I guess seven races and 3 planets? No clue
Here is my theory: "7 and 3 make 73. 73 is a star number. Star number? Game in space? It represents a hexagram. A hexagram? Game with hexes? A board game type of game?".

Here is a theory on terrain: "This could mean a dozen of things. Tactical battles. Or importance of planets. Or... it could be a hint to a latin word "Terra", which could mean "Earth". "Earth" could be then used in context of space game. So, Earth as an important planet in game?".

With the new expansion of Civ: Beyond Earth, the launch of Galactic Civilizations III and the announcement of Endless Space 2, despite all those games being 4x, these being the most known Space Strategy games in the spotilight in lastest months, why would Paradox engange in a dispute with another Space strategy game? It is kinda 'too much' space strategy games at the same time.
Because there are not many grand strategy games in space. Both Endless Space and Civilization: Beyond Earth were nowhere close to that (I played both).

Please be cold war or modern day.

Why not a Cold War grand strategy game?

- elections
- playable 7 decades (45-15)
- 3 factions (west, east, third world)
- 1973 Yom Kippur as a scenario

for some reason I cannot see PI move into space.

Johan already confirmed this one is NOT Cold War. It was developed the same time as East vs West.

True. For EvW we worked on design, interface & art to help out BL-Logic. It is NOT a cold-war game, as East vs West was supposed to be our cold-war game.

Forgot to mention Rome was founded 753 BC, 7 and 3 once again in a vital number for Rome.

Again... I could give hints for every period which would include 7 and 3... You make up things because you want it to be Rome. But 7 and 3 are not only leading to Rome, they could mean many other things too.

No, I cannot see Paradox doing this again.

In my view most (admittedly not all, but most nonetheless) of the disappointment seems to be coming from people hoping for a sequel to EU:Rome, or something of a similar era in history. I don't see why not making a sequel to EU:Rome would dissuade PDX from making hints prior to game announcements in the future. The forum community alone has racked up 19 pages of comments on a one sentence hint in the past 13 hours. They're generating interest and discussion by the day. If that's not good marketing, what is?

People may be disappointed when the game is finally announced (and it's worth bearing in mind we don't know for sure what the game will be, much of the assumptions of sci-fi/space are coming from the registration of trademarks that could just be red herrings) but they'd be disappointed anyway if there were no hints in the lead up to the announcement itself.
