With the new expansion of Civ: Beyond Earth, the launch of Galactic Civilizations III and the announcement of Endless Space 2, despite all those games being 4x, these being the most known Space Strategy games in the spotilight in lastest months, why would Paradox engange in a dispute with another Space strategy game? It is kinda 'too much' space strategy games at the same time.

We don't know the meaning of 3 and 7. It could mean something relevant to game mechanics. Or anything...

No paradox have never made hints that we could not explicitly guess (so no game mechanic in a unkown game). It is something simple, something that don't take deep knowledge in something to understand. Something that is right in front of us.

Here I give two guesses that I think actually can be correct:

Months: 7 & 3 are the months July and March, which would pretty much mean Rome.

7 & 3 mean that hint number 7 and hint number 3 are the most important hints which could point to a space game but that is probably the closest the hint will point at that direction. An interesting thing is that both hint 3 and hint 7 have been posted by Fredrik II.

That would mean todays hint and the hint about no pig stabbing are the most important ones.

We should also not entirely rule out the possibility of a fantasy game given that 3 and 7 have much closer connection to a fanatasy game then pretty much everything else.

I am going out on a limb here, but what about a corporatism game in the nature of the old capitalism game. Terrain would be important for resources, and elections would be critical for boards of directors and mergers. No one knows what the 7 and 3 reference is but I offer factory workers 7 days a week 3 shifts a day. It would fit the concept of a new IP title. Research and development would be important. The game time line could extend from either the end of the Victoria period, or the end of the HOI period. It would allow the developers to do a futuristic game which is of interest to the developers to move away from historical games.

IMO, the big risk with Runemaster wasn't that it was fantasy. The risk was that it was an RPG. Augustus will be a GSG no matter what, so no big risk there.

Oh, and just because you like something doesn't mean others must like it too. I'm not very excited about a classical antiquity game, for instance, but I love the thought of a GSG in space.

And actually Runemaster was cancelled because it was to much work for them. They overestimated themself with the work. It was because it was an RPG with the Clausewitz enginge. Something absolutelly new to program for Paradox.

I like historical games much more than fantasy and I really hope it will be about ancient times. So if I would choose between Rome and space game I would choose Rome. For now, my favourite game is ck2. Perhaps the game could have many different elements with very huge timeline extending from ancient era through medieval times, new era and modern age to future. You could start as Rome, for example and fight against other nations and develop your technology with historical limits in different periods of time (When I say historical limits I mean for example you cannot have guns in ancient times.). In the future you could explore and colonize other planets. Also you could stay on Earth and fight against other countries there. That would be very interesting, but I think that making game like that would be extremely hard and that game would be very very huge, so I think we cannot expect it now or in the near future. Just imagine how fun that game could be. For example if you play as monarchy with start in ancient times and play to modern days or future keeping your dinasty, and if you look at your family tree you can see all the monarchs who lead your country from ancient times to modern days and that would be awesome for me because I very like dinasty system. I think that many people would be satisfied with the game like that. I mentioned that only as idea and I am not sure if it is possible to make the game like that.

Alea jacta est and Ageod games cover a limited area and timeline, as opposed to Gsg of Paradox. I like TW but they are vastly different games than Gsg. Besides, there is so much potential in ancient times, it's a crime to do another boring space game dune-like instead. Runemaster all over again, Paradox continues to forget their core business.

Dune boring? Dune is one the most interesting fictional worlds in the history of literature, since the times of Esiod's Theogonia. I love history just as the next guy, but come on... let the Paradox boys experiment a little.

That's a good suggestion actually! But not sure if it's "Grand" enough to be the game they've always wanted to make..

Well I have to say I'm really hoping for Rome here. I'm sure space will be alright if they go for it but we have so many options for that already and nothing remotely 'good' in the Rome sector.

Anyway best to just wait and see at the announcement heh.

In my opinion the last good space strategy game to come out was Sword of the Stars. There is no shortage of space strategy games, but they're all just cheap clones that lack something.

Distant Worlds is actually quite good for people who like Paradox games.

The real issue IMO is much more the turn based gameplay being almost dead.

I've been playing a lot of Gal Civ III. It is a fun, addictive but deeply flawed game. The game-play is so un-fulfilling. Good thing I'm a founder, because it will take at least 2 expansions to make it truly a stand out.
