Why I don't like it?

Because Real Madrid may play an intereting game of ice hockey, but that's not good use of their resources.

The game may turn out good, but they use resources that could have otherwiss create something they excel at and that is underrepresented on the market making generic space soap opera.

I get that it was kind of a dream for a lot of people at Paradox, but I see no reason to be hyped by their vanity project.

You could also say Paradox excel at making GSG, regardless of time periods. If someone, any studio at all, was going to make a space GSG, I would trust Paradox to do it greater and better then any other experienced space game company out there. This is not Real Madrid playing ice hockey. I'd buy that argument if they were going to make a space themed 1st person shooter game.

To be honest, I'd much rather PDS made their dream game than work on something they might not be quite as excited about making.

And this!

They will continue making new EU, Victoria, HoI, CK- games, but it's important not to make them come out to close. You can't realistically make a new Europa Universalis game every year and keep up the creative innovative force and motivation of the developers. It will just end up with mediocre follow ups. If Paradox is to keep growing, it has to explore some new franchises as well. The most obvious ones to explore with the GSG concepts are space, fantasy, ancient times, dark ages and cold war.

There are a number of games in development - plenty of chance for some historical games.

However Paradox have to branch out at some point. Products reach maturity and genres reach maturity. Sure they can keep making them and probably keep making money but it's diminishing returns and not a long term route for growth.

Heck, Paradox make good games not good history lessons. I trust they'll make a good game and has already been mentioned it is something they want and are passionate about.

In this era of sequels of sequels and identikit games I'm personally glad Paradox has the integrity to do something a bit different (even if it is still a grand strategy...).

Isn't it also true, that in this example, it's also about you not liking Ice Hockey, damn their resources or any other waffle, you just don't want a space game.

I would die for a date where you get to play actual countries who are yet to conquer the solar system, and of course that would be the main point.

I sadly see that paradox is scared to use anything historical tied to any culture. It would make a so much immerse universe. Dont think of it like USA-China-Russia. Here are examples:
-United Arab Emirates makes business of spaceships and successfully starts colonizing with mostly arabic people.
-A polish businessman founds a later very large space-corporation, only to carry polish colonies into space in the end.
-Middle/Eastern european Confederation of slavic countries, Greece and hungary starts colonizing.
-Rest of europe stays in the EU, forming a uniform nation, and starting colonisation.
-Turkey starts colonising while becoming the leader of a Turkey-centric islamic state.
-Kurdish people flee into space with hijacked turkish technology. They are nowhere to be found.

Just an idea rather then the stereotypical white, arabic, chinese, indian, black melting pot idiocies.

That's overstepping your expertise a bit, wouldn't you think?

"The game may be good" - exactly. How are you privy to what Paradox can and cannot do well? Or how they use their resources? We've only seen them do historical grand strategy, so we don't know how this is going to turn out.

Why be negative if you could instead be looking forward to something?

Also, space *grand* strategy is quite underrepresented.

So I only play CK2, therefore if they do not have RPG element I won't buy anyway.
I played EU4 sometimes but it's boring due to the missing familie and intrigues.

If they create a EU4 in space, no need for that.
Even if you are allowed to play some randome dude, no thanks.

So hope for a good RPG element, but to be honest it will not have one.
Sure Leaders are very important but important is not the same as you are the ruler and than your son and so on...

However I will have a look to night, even if I think this game will suck for me like EU4.

I understand your point, a new game needs to create it's own money.
If it doesen't they should go back to the old ones.
The focus from Paradox still should be on the game with the highest creating valuem.
Does someone know which game that is?

All 4x are by all accounts grand strategy games. There are more of those released in 6 months then historical grand strategy games since the 80s.

But they are not the same Grand Strategy like Paradox do. And many people make a differencation ebtween 4x and Grand Strategy ;)

  • Europa Universalis III Complete
All 4x are by all accounts grand strategy games. There are more of those released in 6 months then historical grand strategy games since the 80s.

Everyone knows the difference between a 4x turn based civ game and a Paradox Grand Strategy game, your pedantry does not prove a point.

Agreed. Though this is just typical superiority bias, "obviously i know best", so maybe we should just ignore them.

This is just playing semantics, you know full well what monsterfurby meant.
