Of course Rome is interesting! Stellaris will be a flop if it is indeed a space game.

I mean, Rome the city is interesting. Rome the empire and its ugly sister, Rome the republic, just didn't do much of interest. "Oh look you painted the map, yawn." I do that all the time in games already with interesting countries, like the Ottomans.

An Ottoman game would be cool and interesting, sure. They're like a more successful and interesting Roman Empire.

Yeah, there is a gazillion sci-fi games on the market just because they all flop badly. Developers are like lemmings, can't help themselves. It's not like they do trend analysis before...

Yeah. Endless Space did so terribly financially that they announced a sequel because they were afraid they were making too much money from Endless Legend. French tax law is weird.

I have like 8 Stellaris on my Library already, just with different names. There's no way Paradox can properly sell this to an already saturated genre.

I actually agree with this. Cold War is an extremely over saturated genre.

Maybe they should. I don't think anybody in this thread could look me in the eye and said they wouldn't want to play as a farmer on a planet recently colonized by Space Rome. Space Rome, of course, being in a space cold war with Space Persia.

Well I agree with previous commenters, Rome is boring and I'm happy that we dodged that bullet. Although China would've been even worse... Yuck! Sci-fi is such a diverse and interesting setting and I'm super-stoked that Paradox has finally decided to try it out. More new stuff, less old stuff I say!

I have enough faith in Paradox that I'll give this a go anyway.

Honestly, if they were going to start a new franchise, I would have liked an ancient Europe equivalent of Crusader Kings which goes up to the start of CK2 (and has save game porting) and I'm sure something like that will eventually come, even if for the next CK/EU generation.

But what I want, what I really really want... is Vicky 3.
