Attrition within my supply limit range? Is that normal?

Year 1630, playing as Milan I expanded in the maghreb up to Oujda (east of Melilla).
My ships suffer attrition even within their supply limit range.

Whether they block ports in the Lusitanian sea (Porto) or they protect trade/hunt pirates on Sevilla's node (Light and heavy ships being used) they still suffer attrition after a while.

But they never go farther than the Lusitanian sea which is well withing the supply range of my ships (139/187.5).

Is it a bug or it's working as intended?

How is your Sailorcount? If your amount of Sailors in reserve drops to 0 all ships will suffer attrition regardless of supplyrange, because cost a monthly amount of sailors to maintain

I'm not 100% sure but I believe if your ships spend extended time in sea tiles beyond your supply range or in ocean tiles, they will retain the time at sea attrition modifier. So if you've never docked them back up after a war for example, they may retain their attrition. If it continues to happen even after docking, it may be a bug, not sure.

This. I noticed that the ship’s attrition marker sometimes seems “stuck” after a war and that it only goes away after docking.

It also can happen when you’re short on sailors.
