Was just thinking that perhaps it would be nice if characters could get enhancements to thier attribtues for completing tasks etc...In other words a general for winning a certain number of battles (perhaps the larger the battle-win the more bonus as well) his military skill will go up. Or a court member finishes building a certain number of upgrades and he also gets a bonus...experience usually helps one in their trade no? (whatever that ¨trade¨may be). It seems that the skills of the characters are just very random and not decided by their actual actions...more just well he has 12 diplomacy because....well because.

Yep, for games like Sengoku you can only gain in game's depth when you put more RPG aspects into it.

Good idea, and it is not too difficult to modify, I think.

There are two ways that the game currently alters attributes much:
Courtiers get ambitions to become the master of ceremonies/arms/looking for ninja. Taking these positions for at least one day increases the relevant stat, though they can now only get the ambition for a particular seat once.
The rather randomly triggered events that give your character traits (arrow cutter, craven, obsessed, arbitrary, etc.)

I'd be happy to see things like sending your master of ceremonies to improve relations with someone increase his diplomacy stat, or for your master of arms to have stat gains tied to your retinue being in combat. Random small chances don't really feel suitable for this though- perhaps the first gain should be practically guaranteed but with a sort of diminishing fertility effect to keep it from scaling out of hand (though still allowing for some rare luck to grant you somebody with fairly high stats.)

Battles are so size specific- with all the units clumping together in a death ball losing "many" battles will happen if you just can't quite get your levies grouped up fast enough. Maybe it should be more things like if you lose battles in river territories and such- since that's actually sort of tactical thinking.
