I'm getting e-mail notifications for threads in which I have posted. I have quite explicitly set this to off.

I had it set to off from pretty much the day I joined. Recently, it seems it was turned back on again through an update or something. I set it to off again, and more e-mails come.

I did see that thread, I followed the instructions in it and it didn't help, unless the setting takes time to apply.
