I was just playing as Japan and had several Inf Divs stationed on several islands. Was wondering whether the size of an island determines how difficult it would be to defend it. It makes common sense that it should, but was just making sure if that is how it works.
Also are there some provinces on which amphibious landings cant be made, and if there are some how can know which ones, cause my whole Japanese campaign depends on this.

The size of a province is irrelevant to combat. The main things governing assaults from the sea are not using too many divisions (use three, every division over four gives a heavy penalty due to beach overcrowding), using marines (which are the best divisions for beach and urban combat), and having a high tech level in marines; each tech not only makes the next model of Mar available but decreases the penalties for Amphibious Assault.

Only provinces with a beach can be invaded from the sea. On most map views, it appears as a small yellow banana-shaped icon somewhere along the shore. There's also a yellow/blue icon at the bottom right of the province info pane that you get when you click on a province.

Last thing; don't use the Amphibious Assault naval mission, just park your transports offshore and unload your divisions, giving orders to the land divisions themselves. Amphibious Assault is unpredictable, unreliable, and has intemittent bugs.

nopes, AA works as intended, parking is however exploitable (like being able to unload with unsufficient transports org).

Surely invading troops sometimes losing the battle, retreating inland, and being destroyed since that province is obviously enemy-held is not "works as intended"?

Also, parking and unloading at any time is how it worked in every other Paradox game and it's the easiest way of doing it in HoI2; I haven't seen anything about low org transports dropping off invaders being an exploit.
