Attaching Air Wings

When you attach air wings of tac bombers or CAS to an army, do they prioritise the fights that the units of that army are in? Or do they just follow them to the air zone and take part generally?

AFAIK they just follow the army (as close as they can) but act like any other air wing assigned a Ground Support mission. And if the army is spread over multiple air regions (or you haven't gotten an air base in the region they are in), they won't even support the entire army.

I am not sure if attached air wings can participate in battles outside of the army it is attached to.
