I think binding army fleets with naval fleets would help a lot with some stuff, QoL wise, and possibly even prevent AIs from acting stupid with army transports.

Army should be included in fleet management screen, and set templates for them as well as build reinforcements just like the navy.

From there, we should be able to decide to "attach" that army fleet/template to certain fleet, just like how we can choose naval fleet's home base. That way the army fleet will follow that fleet around even after the invasion is concluded and they come back out into space.

If the attached naval fleet is bombing a planet, the army fleet should automatically orbit that said planet, until the navy fleet moves then the army will move with the fleet. If the navy moves while army is fighting, they will continue to fight unless told to retreat manually.

Of course, we can also decide the army fleet to be "independent" without being attached to any fleets for more flexibility.

Talk about eliminating micro.

Good Idea but they should just make modules for ships so they can house armies, get rid of undefended transport fleets all together, if you want alot of troops then you have to build specialized ships or have tons of ships housing like 1 army each

Well, you can almost do that already. You can make armies follow fleets by ordering them to move to a fleet. You can't do the auto orbiting or following after invasion though. Overall a good idea, though not a pressing thing IMO.

If you set a transport fleet to aggressive stance, it will automatically invade planets it can take and follow (combat) fleets in the system. Including after finishing an invasion, so it'll stay with the fleet.

I would like to see us be able to design and build transport ships, but I can see it getting really difficult for new people into the game.

Having assault armies automatically have ships is a nice easy way of removing the little bits of management.
They've also tried to make it simpler, by having navy ships prioritise other navy ships instead of attacking defenceless ships, but sometimes I want to kill all the armies instead and would sacrifice my ships for that goal as that means my planets cannot be taken. Combining transport ships into a fleet will mean they need to think about priorities and tactical combat more, and as far as I can tell they didn't want this game to turn into a tactical fleet simulator.

Space Empires V had transport ships (for armies and population) but that was quite a complicated system.

We were actually able to, not too long ago, but the most you could really change was the propulsion system and the shield/armor loadout, and you couldn't actually "upgrade" fleets, you had to land them onto one of your planets and then re-embark them.

but sometimes I want to kill all the armies instead and would sacrifice my ships for that goal as that means my planets cannot be taken.
Generally, unless you're looking at a multi-front Federation vs Federation clusterfuck, if one side is seriously THAT close to invading the other's worlds, that side has already won and is just racking up war exhaustion to force a surrender.

The whole business with training and moving independent armies seems like unnecessary clutter to me. We have a jobs system now, let's roll both offensive and defensive armies into that.

Military jobs provide manpower (per planet), a certain fraction of that manpower (depending on various factors) is available for offensive operations. Then you simply spawn invasion forces by selecting how many troops you want and send it to the target.

they could have the same system for the early game, but by the time you get cruisers etc there could be an implementation of additional hulls or modules to house armies (hell, maybe even a boarding mechanic could be made out of this), this would especially go well with hangar modules
