Hi,

Playing with Germany, in 1944, with Romania as part of the Axis. Apparently Romania split in two, as part of a civil war event. I saw that I did not automatically enter the war, so started justifying war against Legionary Romania (LR), which was Fascist but non-aligned. Kingdom of Romania (KR) was non-aligned but still part of the Axis.

I declared war, with the following weird effect:
- I could take territory from LR, and it became KR territory
- I could not advance from KR territory to LR, the divisions immediately stopped

I then noticed that I was at war with KR, but they were still part of my faction. I have no idea how to fix this - I'm playing ironman so can't tag Romania and leave the faction.

This run look broken, which is a shame as I am gearing up for my final run - invading the US mainland.

How can I 'repair' the situation and get peace with KR? AFAICT I can't kick them out of the faction until patch 1.5 comes out.

Thanks,

Robert

First of all, bug report this. It is another example of the broken coup system and DoD issues.

As far as fixing it, you made the mistake of playing ironman so the game is screwed. Lesson for next game, don't play iron man in a game still being patched. Iron man provides no benefits whatsoever except useless eye candy achievements. You can not go back to a previous save or go to console to fix things when they break.

What about pulling out of Romania and let one side win. Perhaps you can get lucky and the true enemy will win!

Unless you are doing an achievement (in which case I feel your pain), ironman is basically only around so you don't have to remember to save.

The game will save weekly or monthly for you, it is in the options game settings screen.

When getting an achievement provides discounts on the next DLC I will consider doing one. Until then I don't recommend doing them if it prevents you from fixing a messed up game you just put 4 hours into or using a mod that improves said game.

Ironman is a way of thinking the game. Playing without any risk of reverting to a previous save. Reverting a previous save in this style of game is unchallenging. This mode is perfectly fine and working around bugs within the game are certain not a valid reason to avoid it. Better avoiding the game and any further DLC, if there is no will from the developers to fix game breaking bugs.

Yes, I will file a bug report, it's definitely worth one. However, I don't think that a game at patch level 1.4.2 is something that would make me wary of playing Ironman. Ironman is the way I enjoy most games, with not being able to backtrack my decisions being a very good motivator.

I'll try that, yes. However, since I'm a faction with KR, all teritory conquered from LR becomes theirs ... but maybe ending the war somehow will fix this. Don't know.

Another option it to spam a large number of defensive divisions and maybe some start bombers and make sure they don't get out of their territory. I'm not giving up on this game so easily :)

Just in case, reposting it here

In the Settings.txt file in your documents/paradox/hoi4 folder change

save_as_binary=no

Run Hoi4, save game. Then use notepad++ or similar txt editor to open savegame and remove line referring to ironman, then save and open save in game.

ironman="Ironman German Reich 2.hoi4"

This allows you to then switch into and play as other nations etc. Of course it de-ironmans your game from then on.
