Asymmetrical Trade Protection? Why? [beta patch]

Apparently I still haven't figured out the new Trade system. ;)

My first thought was that the adjacent station in the Fallen Empire might have something to do with it, but I have no idea which systems will be protected once I can upgrade the Starbase and add more Protection Range.

Any help / explaination would be appreciated :)

It's a bug. Also happens with collection. No idea why and when though.

Because to fix the Gateway lag, they limited the time the AI calculates the "most effective trade route", and this seems to sometimes lead the AI to not properly find the route to collect trade or to protect it for more than 1 jump. This is just a theory i've read somewhere here on the forum, maybe in the Beta discussion. In any case you should check the "Bug" forum if someone else has already filed a complaint and eventually add your experience there.

It's unlikely devs look at the "general" forum, it's more likely they check the Bug subforum.

The question is, why the eff it should be calculated every day if it only changes when starbase loadout is changed or starbase itself changes owner.

Maybe they don't have a listener/observer model for propagating changes throughout the data model, and instead rely upon polling.
That'd explain a lot of the weird UI inconsistencies, like taking 1 or 2 ticks to register state changes.

Lol, not so long ago I was told exactly the opposite when I assumed that that's how pops work. Everyone and their mother immediately began downvoting me while preaching about how pops' stats aren't recalculated every day but on an event-based model.

It's a bug. Also happens with collection. No idea why and when though.
In the bug threads it is speculated that it is related to circles in the hyperlane network - for the OP, this means that the protection range takes a detour via Virlak and hence fails to get to Chatlib first.
Might be something like "do not check systems you have reached via another path before" , even though the new path would be shorter and hence would allow further projection.

There are bug reports of this - with saves and with theories.

Hopefully the solution is simple once they tackle it.
